Perplexed? Persevere! Giveaway!

I've noticed lately that a lot of toys our there are pretty "short-lived" in their usage. What I mean by this is that you can really only do one thing with the toy, and then you're done. You could, I suppose, do the same thing over and over, but my kids aren't like that, and I'd rather stimulate their creativity and patience. I've tried to get toys for our kids that are a bit more open-ended, that allow for multiple uses and "again and again" play.

We recently discovered a Canadian toy distributing company called PlaSmart. Introduced to the market in 2003, this toy company has grown rapidly into a world concern, distributing on 5 continents and in over 60 countries! Their product line focuses on smart, simple toys: they avoid electronic toys and toys that are difficult to understand or operate. From what we've seen of PlaSmart's toys, they fit our requirements for longevity - both in durability and in ways of use.

Over the next few weeks, we will be featuring 4 different great, products from PlaSmart's line - and each time there will be a giveaway for you, our fabulous readers, as well!! Keep your eyes peeled! :) We're excited to share these toys with you and we're sure you'll love them too!

First up on our list is the Original Perplexus. Aptly named, this toy certainly has me perplexed!! This single-player "maze" game is designed for children ages 6 and up, and this is very accurate (although, I'm not sure where that leaves me!) Perplexus also exists in "Rookie" (or ages 4 and up) and "Epic" (ages 8 and up). The maze route takes place inside a transparent ball, and as you roll and turn the ball around, you can guide (or not!) the ball along the various tracks and around and through the increasingly difficult obstacles.

What we like about the Perplexus Original:
  • No batteries!! and it doesn't make noise either!
  • It's easy to take anywhere and is self-contained.
  • The user really has to focus in on the maze, making the Perplexus a great cool-down tool (and our son chooses this when he needs some retreat time).
  • There are no small pieces to lose or worry about with small children around the house.
Jonathan brought his Perplexus to school for "Show and Tell" and it was a big hit among the children. After school, instead of going home, a few of them sat in the shade and took turns watching and trying out the Perplexus - and all were really keen on it.

Perplexus is available at toy and book stores - check the store locator on the website for details of a location near you.
