There are certain jobs that kids seem to gravitate to when they are young...these are often the "rescue" or "hero" type of jobs, aren't they? At least for our kids, I know that police officers, firefighters and ambulance drivers are all very heroic and totally exciting! They love hearing about the people who do these jobs and are curious about all the aspects of it too...now if only I knew all the answers! :) DK Canada has a fabulous reader in their Level 1 readers that has been perfect for our son who has been learning to read this past year. A Day in the Life of a Police Officer is definitely interesting and intriguing to him and makes reading so much more fun!
The book features Officer Ann Young and her partner as they drive their police car around town and help with various situations that arise. It has real-life photos in the book and is a great way to help kids accurately understand what a day in the life of a police officer can look like. We've found the level 1 readers from DK Canada to be perfect for kids who are beginning to read, such as our son. It uses simple words and easy-to understand vocabulary. I also love that the book has 80 percent pictures and 20 percent text. This definitely helps to keep beginning readers interested in the story and excited about reading it.
DK Canada offers readers in many levels - from preschool to grade 4 and the topics are fabulous as well - I have a feeling you'll have no trouble finding a variety of great readers that will interest and excite your children!
