My mom says I should use garden gloves. She has average-sized hands, that fit a lot of available garden gloves. Plus, she always has short nails, so there's no where for the dirt to hide. I have small hands - so garden gloves are always too big for me. They're too floppy, and interfere with my ability to work, so I usually just take them off again. I also like to have longer nails (sometimes). Nothing fancy, just longer. But dirt under the nails is so unbecoming.
Recently, I was at a gardening trade show with a friend of mine, and we noticed a new kind of gardening glove. My interest was piqued, especially when I noticed that they came in FOUR different sizes. Surely one size would fit me!
The creators of Dig It® Handwear, Wendy and Claudia, are avid gardeners. After searching for a garden glove that would protect their hands and nails from the wear and tear of gardening, they decided to design their own. The result is the Dig It glove.
- Reinforced with an innovative pillow-topped nail protector
- Elegantly functional
- Breathable
- Available in four sizes (S - XL)
- Made from recycled materials
- Water resistant
Dig It® gloves exist in a wrist-length glove as well as a gauntlet-style glove (the High Five), with extended arm coverage. I have a feeling this extended glove will work perfectly for me once the tomatoes, zucchini and cucumber plants are needing care and picking - I always get an itchy rash on my arms from touching the plants, because regular gloves aren't long enough.
So how do they work? Well, really, they fit me like a glove! :) Seriously - size small is absolutely perfect for me. It's snug enough to allow me to work easily in the garden and not get any dirt in under my nails. Better yet, my nails, although not professionally manicured, looked just like they had before gardening, no chips, and I didn't have to scrub my hands to pieces to get off the dirt! The little "grippy" pillows on the fingers and palms work great for grasping and pulling out plants and, once it gets warm enough, will be great when transplanting bedding plants and seedlings.
Dig It® Handwear gloves are great for all kinds of handwork around the house. Cleaning, yard work, moving furniture, sorting recycling, shoveling snow, sweeping, washing the car, organizing seasonal storage, etc.
Another great thing about Dig It gloves is that they're made in unisex colours. So, while they were designed to protect hands and manicures, they can also be worn by men. We were sent a pair in my husband's size as well, and he's equally pleased with the fit and workability of the gloves.
Dig It® handwear has also designed other safety and protection products. Another review is coming up on Glimpse in a few weeks - check out their website to see what else they have to offer!

I've got a big vegetable garden this year and have lots to plant and prune, this would be a great way to avoid muddy hands and nails that are hard to clean!
I have large hands and long nails so I would really be interested in seeing if their gloves would be a good fit for me.
This is my second year gardening and I didn't use gloves. This year, gloves are in order.

I would love to own these gloves as I have a lot of gardens to clean, both vegetable and flower gardens. I like my nails to remain somewhat clean if possible as I hate trying to get the stains out from under my finger nails!
