Julie's family's impressions:
"The Bear Went Over the Mountain" is a wonderful retelling of the classic song. I think it really it really captures the exploratory spirit of children, as the bear goes over the mountain and discovers so many new things. I like how the focus is on the 5 senses: the bear sees, hears, touches, tastes and smells great new discoveries on the other side of the mountain. Just when we received this book, Mr. D's nursery school was studying the 5 senses, so I lent them the book to read at story time, and they really enjoyed it as well. Iza is a masterful rhymer - and my children (and I) really love stories that rhyme and keep a rhythm! The illustrations are beautifully done and really help the reader to enter into the bear's activities. Through the illustrations, we subtly follow the bear through the 4 seasons, including his deep sleep at the end! I especially like that the music and words (in lyric form) are included at the end of the story, so you can sing along on tune! :)

Andrea's family's impressions:
A book that can be sung is always a big hit in our home! Our kids love to sing, and both of us parents are music lovers as well...so when we can sing a story it is extra fun. :) "The Bear Went Over the Mountain" is a great book in our opinion! There are many aspects that we really enjoyed...the musical aspect, the bright, beautiful illustrations, as well as the way that the story incorporates both the 5 senses and the 4 seasons. Put that all together and it makes a fabulous book for children!
