I was one of those students in school who always enjoyed history! Now, math was another story...but history? That was a great class for me. :) Of course, it probably helped that our teacher made it fun & interesting and was always thinking of fabulous history-based projects for us to complete. However, learning history can easily be a monotone, boring task for many students, and it's often hard for students to grasp the importance of knowing the history of our country.
Homeschool Beaver is a great little online spot that was created by a former teacher, performer & homeschooling mom. She's come up with a great CD of Canadian History songs that are full of toe-tapping tunes. Each song is packed full of information about some of the most important events and people in Canadian history. When information is put to music it is often so much easier to remember, isn't it? Although I just started to homeschool this year and our kids are a little too young to remember too many history facts yet, we look forward to using this as a valuable resource in the next few years to come. It's the perfect way to remember dates and events...and there's even a song that has all the Canadian Prime Ministers!
A few other things that I appreciated about the CD is that the songs are short and easy to remember. It's also easier for a child to sit and enjoy and remember a 1 minute song than it is for them to remember a longer, drawn-out tune. It makes the CD even more valuable for the younger children as well as for the older ones.
Now, I'm sure that a lot of our readers don't homeschool their children, but this really is a great resource for your children and your family whether you homeschool or attend public school. It's a great way to either learn or reinforce some important history facts of our great country!
WIN IT!
