Envirokidz~GIVEAWAY!!

Are you looking for natural shampoo for your children, but you want to find it at recognized chain where you shop often, and you want it to be reasonably priced? Sounds like me...I really like to use natural personal care products on our kids, but I don't want to have to travel all around to different stores when shopping (with 3 kids, 1 store is about the limit each shopping trip!), and I need it to fit into our budget.

Live Clean is a Proudly Canadian company that uses natural, plant-based ingredients for the most part (up to 98%). Their products are free of petroleum, SLS, Sulfate, DEA, Parebens, Phthalate and Phosphate. They're vegan and cruelty free. Packaging is recyclable, ingredients are locally sourced where possible and are biodegradable. Live Clean started with a range of adult products including shampoos and conditioners, body washes and hand soaps. Later they introduced a baby line (check out Stacey's review here). But what about the kids?

Not to worry! Recently, Live Clean introduced 3 products for children as part of the Enviro-Kidz range. There are two different 2-in-1 shampoos, and a detangler, and we received a sample of all 3! :) "Flavours" are Berry Burst, Fruit Explosion and Tropical Splash (detangler). The bottles have an appealing (to kids) design with a super-hero-like action figure who encourages the kids to be environmentally friendly. Enviro-Kidz products are also hypoallergenic and pediatrician-tested. All Live Clean products are enriched with certified organic botanicals; Enviro-Kidz products contain extracts of Lavender, white tea and Aloe.

We kept the Berry Burst for ourselves and passed the Fruit Explosion shampoo and the Tropical Splash detangler on to our niece, who is growing "Rapunzel" hair, and needs detangler often in a bad way! :) Happily, our boys have no need for detangler, or even for much of a combing most days, and Annalies' hair is just starting to be long enough that I can get a clip to stay in for a few minutes, so no tangles there yet either! :)

Jonathan and Daniel have been using the Berry Burst ever since we got it. Jonathan like the "comic book" style labelling, and read the enviro-tips; Daniel isn't too bothered by that kind of stuff yet! The shampoo works well, their hair smells and looks clean when we're done, and they don't fuss when we're washing hair (except in the shower, and that's because of the water in their eyes!). The shampoo formulas are both mild and tear-free and smell great.

Cousin N has been using Tropical Splash shampoo and the detangler. Her mom likes that the products are natural and that they work well. N has even asked Rapunzel at Disney World how she took care of her long long hair! :) Lately, with the excessive swimming N has been doing, they've needed to use another "leave-in" conditioner as well, but in normal circumstances, the Enviro-Kidz products have done a great job.

WIN IT!!

As part of the Christmas in July week, Live Clean is offering 2 lucky Glimpse readers the full Enviro-Kidz collection! That's right: you'll win 1 bottle of each of the 3 products listed in the review! :) To enter, please visit Live Clean's website and comment on a product or feature that you like.

Going for a Swim? ~ GIVEAWAY!!

Our little baby loves water - loves to splash and kick and try to catch streams of running water. It's so cute! :) She's starting to use the toilet sporadically, but we can't be sure she won't use the pool too, so a swim diaper is of absolute necessity. Even if you are sure you'd never ever want to use cloth diapers, a reusable swim diaper makes good sense. For one thing, disposable swim diapers are SOOO expensive. And if your child is in swimming lessons, chances are that in the 30 minutes, they haven't even "used" the diaper, but you can't be sure so you throw it out. As baby gets older, the chances of a solid deposit in the swim diaper become less and less, so the washing is as simple as putting the diaper in with the rest of the swimming stuff that you have to wash anyway and you're good to go! Have I convinced you yet?

We are excited to be able to try a new swimming diaper from Monkey Doodlez! Little Tree Hugger, a local cloth diaper retailer, has teamed up with Monkey Doodlez to offer this review and giveaway AND discount code! (details below). I'm pleased to feature these 2 great Canadian companies!  The new style of swim diaper is available in 5 colours, each with a different cute print on the bum, and has snap closures to make getting baby in and out easier! We've had diapers from Monkey Doodlez before, and really like them. I'm sure the swimming diaper will live up to my expectations - I'll let you know for sure in a couple of weeks when I've had a chance to try it out! :) Little Tree Hugger is a great Canadian cloth diaper (and more!) retailer. Janis and Andrea are always ready to offer excellent advice so you get exactly the product you need. Since we last featured Little Tree Hugger, they've expanded and now have Cloth Diaper Consultants in various cities across Canada offering free info sessions for people wanting to learn more about cloth diapers and to see the products first hand.  To find a Cloth Diaper Consultant across Canada, please see the website for contact info.

Little Tree Hugger will be launching a new website in late-August and for the big launch they'll be doing a prize giveaway.  The website address will remain the same (www.littletreehugger.ca ) but the new site will have a totally new look - I'm anxious to see what it looks like!  Readers interested in participating in the prize giveaway should join Little Tree Hugger's Facebook group as full details will be posted there.

Sweet l'il Sunhats ~ Discount!

I'm what you might call a "hat mom!" :) Yep, I'm one of those moms who makes their kids wear a hat almost all of the time outside when they are young. Now, this is easy for a boy who can just toss on a baseball hat, but what about the little girls? Well, I have to honestly say, that my brand new (and VERY favorite!) shop for little girl hats is Bouquet Beanies.

Our girls each received an adorable Droplet Brimmed Sunhat. Cute doesn't even begin to describe these little sunhats! The hat has a brim that goes around to protect the ears and face from the sun & wind...and the droplet style of knitting is so delicate. But, I think my favorite part of the sunhat is the interchangeable flower on the front. Each sunhat has a securely fastened button on the front and comes with 7 different colored flowers that can quickly be slipped off and on the button in order to make the hat match any outfit or occasion. The sunhats can be made in ANY size as well - from newborn to adult!

Our new sunhats from Bouquet Beanies have gotten a lot of use already, and not only do our girls love them, but almost everyone we meet downtown comments on how sweet their sunhats are! I am not exaggerating when I say that we've received many, MANY comments on the hats. Bouquet Beanies sells more than just sunhats though. The etsy shop is filled with all sorts of gorgeous hats in all sorts of styles & colors - most of which come with the interchangeable and detachable flowers. I do not hesitate at all to say that I would gladly purchase more hats from Bouquet Beanies in the future! The quality is fabulous and the style & versatility of the hats is amazing!

BUY IT!
Bouquet Beanies is offering a 15% discount on your order. Use the coupon code GLIMPSEREVIEW in the Coupon Code box at checkout (excludes shipping). Expires August 28, 2011 at Midnight.

Changing on the go ~ GIVEAWAY!!

I'm really happy we've reached the baby stage where you don't have to lug quite so much stuff around. My back is happy too! :) Of course, the baby's weight more than makes up for the lack of stuff, but at least we have a stroller! In the beginning, you feel you need to carry so many things: extra diapers, wipes, changes of clothes (blowouts and spit-ups can and do happen!), creams, etc etc etc! Now, we're down to diapers and wipes most times, and a couple of toys or books on certain occasions. Which means we can retire our diaper bag to the closet once again!

Public change tables being what they are, it's still nice to have something to put down under baby when you're changing a diaper. I'm glad that so many places even HAVE a change table - it's so much nicer than changing baby on the floor...but you can never be certain how clean they are. Travel change pads are a necessity; they're usually some kind of plasticized stuff that folds up but never really gets very compact. While they are easy to clean off, they crack and tear easily.

Toots n' Tots is a cloth diaper (& more!) store in Vancouver BC. Included in the product lists are: cloth diapers, covers and accessories, baby carriers, clothing, toys, teething items and much more! Toots n' Tots is also the original home of the handmade items by Maxwell Designs. Maggie, owner of both Toots n' Tots and Maxwell Designs, created her own diaper bag after searching for a bag that suited her. Since then she's also started making wet bags, change pads and purses. She usually has several items ready-made, but the neatest thing about Maxwell Designs is that you can order your bag (or pad or purse) custom made. You choose the fabrics and the size, as well as the closure in some cases, and the bag is made to your specifications. The diaper bags don't look like diaper bags, are constructed with an amazing number of pockets for the STUFF, and BEST OF ALL are reasonably priced, especially compared to the multi-pocket "designer" bags I saw at the store a while ago for $150-$300! Yikes! :)

We were sent one of the travel size change pads to try out (they also come in a bigger size). Once again, you can pick from a collection of fabrics. The change pads roll up to a small roll (which fastens with velcro) that you can easily tuck into a diaper bag, a large-ish purse, a tote bag, or just keep in the car for emergencies!  One side of the change pad is a cotton print (the exterior) and the other side is a soft cotton toweling fabric. The change mat is machine washable.

We've been using the change pad for several weeks now. It's come in handy many times, and makes a nice soft CLEAN surface on which our baby can lie while we change her diaper.

WIN IT!!

As part of our "Christmas in July" week, we're Maxwell Designs is pleased to offer one lucky Glimpse reader a travel change pad of their own, in the winner's choice of fabric. To enter, please visit Toots n' Tots website and comment on a product that interests you.

Keep your balance! Giveaway!!

So what's a younger brother to do? Your older brother has a new bicycle (albeit with training wheels) and YOU are expected to ride an old (your mother's) tricycle! How can this be fair?! :)

This is our son Daniel. Age 2, going on whatever age his older brother is, his goal in life seems to be "to be like Jonathan." :) Sound familiar? This goal also applies to bike riding, which is a skill he just isn't ready for yet.

Enter the balance bike. Essentially, it's a bike without pedals. The rider sits on a seat exactly like a bike seat, holds on to handlebars, and pushes with his/her feet to propel the bike and maintain balance. When looking for a balance bike for Daniel, we considered several features:
  • simple for him to operate
  • adjustable in size
  • lightweight
  • cool colour
  • easy to assemble
We were so pleased when Balance Bikes Canada agreed to send us a balance bike for review. We chose a Kinderbike, in green. (It's also available in a few other colours.) The bike ships in 2 pieces which go together really easily (Allen key supplied) - you just insert the handlebars into the frame, tighten it up and you're ready to go. The seat and handlebars are adjustable in height. The Kinderbike frame is made from aluminum alloy, and weighs approximately 4 kg (8.9 lbs).

Daniel is really pleased that his bike looks like Jonathan's, although he still thinks he's old enough to pedal! :) It takes a while to learn how to really push off with your feet, but after a few weeks, he's getting the hang of it.

The people at Balance Bikes Canada are really helpful in choosing a balance bike from the many brands and styles available. They offer advice and comparison charts on their website, and responded to our questions via email promptly.

GIVEAWAY!!

As part of "Christmas in July," you could win a $50 gift certificate to Balance Bikes Canada!!! To enter this giveaway, please visit Balance Bikes Canada and comment on a bike you think your child (or grandchild!) would like! :)

EXTRA ENTRIES - Please leave an additional comment for each extra entry.

Burt's Bees ~ $150 Giveaway!

There are few companies that can compete with the great natural products from Burt's Bees. Not only do they have fabulous products that our bodies will LOVE, but they also have an amazing selection! We have really enjoyed Burt's Bees Nourishing Lip Balm with Mango Butter. Even the name sounds delicious & sweet! Of course, the lip balm is 100% natural and both hydrates and softens your lips. The special ingredient? Mango Butter! It smells heavenly, and well...my kids always have "sore lips or dry lips" now because the lip balm is that just that fun to apply. It really is great for all ages...it goes on smooth and does the job well!

We also are HUGE fans of the Baby Bee Diaper Ointment. This is our all-time favorite diaper cream for little ones in diapers. When no other diaper cream did the trick, this one did! It has been a staple cream in our home ever since. Again, it is 100% natural and is filled with rich goodness - such as Vitamin A and E (to nourish that tender skin!) as well as sweet almond oil and beeswax (natural barriers). It's good stuff...really good stuff! One application of the cream (or at the most 2 if it's a bad rash), and diaper rashes disappear before our very eyes. :)

Another great product is the Baby Bee Bubble Bath. This bubble bath has given our kids so much fun! And LOTS and LOTS of bubbles! We've tried other natural bubble bath products, but none have given as many, long-lasting bubbles as this one. Mostly, the bubbles are all gone long before bath time is over, but these bubbles are there right to the very end, even of a longer bath for Mama (not that THAT happens very often!). And, unless they're really grungy, sitting in the bubble bath and splashing around it in is usually enough to get them clean smelling again! :) And, we've haven't used nearly as much as the directions say (3-4 capfuls), so the bubble bath is lasting us for quite a long time.

With all the great products at Burt's Bees you can't go wrong! Their products are easy to find, affordable, quality and a great to have around the home!

WIN IT!
Burt's Bees is giving one of our readers a $150 Prize Pack filled with all sorts of Burt's Bee's Goodies! In order to get one entry, please head over to Burt's Bees and let us know what your favorite product is, or what you would love to try!

Soothe, Heal & Moisturize

I've often heard great things about goat's milk...and the benefits it can have for both adult & baby skin. We drink it all the time in our home, so why not use it on our skin too, right? :) But of course...pouring goat's milk over your hands in order to moisturize them doesn't seem like a wise choice either. ;) We recently had an opportunity to try a wide variety of products from Canus. They produce 2 lines of Goat's Milk products - one for adults (Caprina) and one for children and babies (Li'l Goat's Milk). Each of the items is creamy, delicate & perfect for sensitive skin. From the Li'l Goat's Milk line we received soap bars, 40% Zinc Oxide Ointment, Moisturizing body lotion and baby wipes. Did you know that Li'l Goat's Milk's Zinc Oxide Ointment is the one of the most effective diaper rash ointments on the market? Not only does it aid in healing, but it also gives that tender skin a protective barrier against any wetness. And don't forget about their secret weapon - fresh goat's milk to soothe that irritated skin!

I really liked the baby wipes from Li'l Goat's Milk as well. It was one of my favorite products in the group. The wipes are soaked in a specially formulated lotion that contains fresh goat's milk (of course! :) ) We found that the wipes were soooo soft...yet are still able to do the job of cleaning up messes very well ~ and as an added bonus they moisturize while they clean! As you can see, these products are ones that you can count on. Li’l Goat’s Milk products are recommended by health practitioners for babies, toddlers and children of all ages.

Now what about us parents? After changing all those dirty diapers, we deserve a little moisturizing as well, don't ya think? :) Caprina Fresh Goat's Milk Body Lotion or Body Wash are formulated specifically for moisturizing, soothing and protecting your skin. Caprina also has a great antibacterial liquid hand soap which also contains fresh goat’s milk. One thing that I truly loved about the hand soap was that it WILL not dry out your skin like many regular soaps do. Caprina hand soap is made from delicious smelling essential oils and leaves your hands feeling fresh, clean and cared for.

As you can see, you'll find a great selection of products that are great for your skin. By using products with fresh goat's milk you will be taking advantage of a great & natural way to help keep your skin looking and feeling healthy!

CONTEST!
You'll find a fabulous monthly contest over at the Caprina & Li'l Goat's Milk website as well! To be won this month is a wonderful assortment of our products
in our Original Formula and Olive Oil and Wheat Protein, including two of our stuffed goat toys which big and small will enjoy! ($99 value) Head over and fill out the entry form in order to have a chance to win!

Sitting Pretty!

Once baby starts to eat solid food, a whole new adventure begins! The splatters, the spits, the grimaces and food-filled grins... it's all part of the fun! And, of course, it means that you need a new piece of baby equipment: the highchair! Somewhere baby can sit comfortably and safely, while making it easy for the parent to get those spoonfuls of food in!

While we were thinking of the style of highchair we wanted to use for Annalies, we were able to borrow one from my family. It worked well as far as feeding Annalies, but it had some drawbacks: it's footprint was too big, and it didn't collapse when not in use; it was much higher than the table, so Annalies was quite removed from the rest of the family; and it could only be used while she was a baby, requiring some other piece of equipment when the highchair was too small but the regular chairs were still too big.

Then we remembered what many of our friends used in the Netherlands: the Stokke Tripp Trapp! When we looked into it a bit more, it seemed like the perfect solution:
  • baby sits right at the table with the rest of the family (standard table height of 28"-30")
  • the foot rest allows the child's feet to be comfortable, not dangling off a booster seat
  • the chair takes up the same space as a regular dining chair
  • the chair can be used from 6 months, with a babyset, all the way up through childhood and teen years, and even adults can sit on the chair!

Stokke is a Scandinavian company whose focus is innovative children's products. From the Tripp Trapp adjustable highchair to the Xplory stroller, which by the way looks very cool (I've seen it in use!) to the Sleepi bed which starts off as a round infant bed on wheels and transforms to an oval crib and later to a toddler bed and a child's bed up to age 10, it seems like their theme is products that grow with your child. Certainly, from what we've experienced with the Tripp Trapp, the quality is such that the product will last for a long time, being made from solid wood. Stokke products are designed to bring the child as close as possible to the parents; the bed on wheels, the highchair that fits at the table, the stroller with the much higher seat, it all makes life easier and more pleasant for everyone!

The Tripp Trapp is available in a variety of colours, and when Stokke offered to send us one for review, we picked PURPLE! :)  All of the accessories available for the chair come in the same chair colours - so you can have everything all coordinated or you can mix-and-match! The chair ships partially assembled, and in the package are the Allen keys you need to put the chair together. The babyset attaches easily and includes a 5-point harness. The chair is made of 2 side "frame" pieces, a seat and a foot rest; in the side pieces are grooves for sliding the seat and foot rest in, and it all tightens up securely with the Allen keys.

Annalies loves to sit at the table and eat with the rest of us. She'd also gladly eat what we are eating! :) The babyset provides her with enough support that she can sit easily, but still move around a little bit. Right now the seat is at the highest position, and the foot rest exactly right for her feet. Depending on the size of your baby or child, the seat and foot rests can be adjusted vertically, but can also slide more to the front or back, so the back rest is perfectly positioned for your child's body. How cool is that?! :)

Accessories for the chair include
  • the baby set (extra seat back, front rail with piece between the legs - seen in the picture)
  • back and seat cushions
  • a table top with a ridge around the edges to prevent spills from going over the whole table
A Stokke Tripp Trapp chair is definitely something we would buy if we needed another one! :) They are a bit pricier than other high chairs, but the length of time you can use it certainly helps you to get your money's worth!

Wrap Yourself in Miik ~ GIVEAWAY ($125 - $170!)

As a mom, most of my day is spent running after (or with!) my kids, kneeling & bending down to their level, playing hide & seek and fitting into tiny hiding spots ;) and in between all the fun the day is spent madly dashing around trying to do laundry, clean & cook! When each day looks like this, comfortable clothing is a must! And though I loooove my old jogging pants, they are a little raggedy and worn...and to be honest, they never seem to last that long until a new pair is on my Christmas or birthday list. Well, I recently came across a fabulous online store called Miik. This store is 100% about sustainability AND comfort! I received the Patty Pant and I can tell you that...hands down...these pants are the most comfy pair in my dresser right now. It beats those ol' jogging pants any day! The Patty pant feature a wide leg (which I love!) and a unique waistband that can be worn several ways. The 4" band can be worn high (and hold in the tummy a bit!) or it can be folded over at the hip. I prefer having the band folded over, but I love that I can still go with either option if I'd like to. The fabric that these pants are made from is incredible, and I'm certain that it is THE secret to the flattering style & comfort that Miik clothing portrays.

Remember how I mentioned earlier that Miik is all about sustainability? Not only do they use rayon produced from organically grown bamboo, but Miik also is making a breakthrough in this whole world of "temporary" that we live in! Everything is made to break...to be temporary, but at Miik the goal is to lengthen the time between purchasing your clothes and the future disposal of them. Rayon from bamboo is the perfect fabric to create long-lasting clothing with. It doesn't lose it's shape or fade and is a fabric that is simply beautiful. Whether you are a busy mom or a lawyer, Miik's fabulous line of sustainable clothing is ideal for any occasion.

In addition to several great pairs of pants/capri's, Miik has some gorgeous dresses, and a great selection of tops as well. Miik claims that after you try their clothing you won't want to go back those regular ol' jogging pants or t-shirts...and after a few weeks of wearing my new Miik patty pants, I'd have to agree.

WIN IT!
Miik has an AMAZING prize to give away to one of our readers! One very lucky reader will get a prize of “a Miik Spring/Summer dress of their choice! (retail value $125-$170!!) In order to get one entry, head over to Miik and let us know what your favorite item of clothing was.

Leather Baby Sneakers ~ GIVEAWAY!

Comfortable shoes are so important, aren't they? I know I love to have shoes that fit well and are comfortable for walking & running around in...but how much more important this is for a little one who is just learning to walk or run! We found the ideal shoes for babies & young children at Little One Shoes. Although we are mostly past the slipper stage with our youngest, I still was looking for something with a soft sole...yet something more like a shoe.

Little One Shoes carries a HUGE selection of great Soft Sole Leather Crib Baby Sneakers/Shoes! We ordered these cute Canadian Soft Sole Sneakers and they have been wonderful. The shoes are made from Genuine leather and have a skid resistant soft leather sole. We have found that these little shoes have been perfect for all sorts of occasions. They're great for using in the house or at other indoor events (such as weddings or shopping trips). We've also used these shoes in the backyard a few times - out on the deck, or even in the sandbox. :) Our daughter loves her shoes and will bring often pick them up and bring them to us so we can put them on her feet for her! One last feature that I really like about the sneakers is that they are a bit of a high-top shoe and provide extra support for wobbly ankles.

In addition to the shoes we reviewed, you will also find piles of great soft sole baby crib shoes (slipper style) for babies or toddlers as well as many fun & stylish booties. Little One Shoes even offers Hard Sole Shoes for older toddlers/preschoolers. You'll be amazed at all the great styles that you'll find ~ definitely something for everyone and for every occasion!

WIN IT!
Little One Shoes is giving away a pair of soft sole shoes to one of our readers. Winner will choose the style and size of shoes! In order get one entry, head over to Little One Shoes and let us know which pair you would choose if you won.

Scholastic Monday ~ The Underpants Zoo

The Underpants Zoo...the title really says it all! :) Here is a book that will certainly set your children into fits of giggles! This book from Scholastic Canada is picture that is full of hysterical pictures of animals at a zoo who are...well, all in their underpants. :) Ever wonder what kind of underpants does a lion wear? Or what about a monkey? You'll have to read the book to find out! From my opinion, there is nothing inappropriate about the way this is portrayed...it's a funny, little book to bring about some giggles. The pictures are bright, vivid and colorful and definitely suit the mood of the story. The Underpants Zoo is definitely a book that will put a smile on any face, and is something that kids will probably be asking to read over and over again.

Say Thank You - your own way!

No matter the occasion, a thank you card is always appropriate. But you might not be able to find a card that suits you, or the occasion exactly. Wouldn't it be great to have a unique design? or your own photo and/or text? A card made especially for you?

Amy, of the Thank You Card Shop, is helping people express their thankfulness in their own way. A self taught designer from Vancouver, BC, she's designed websites for women with small businesses for the last few years and has just recently decided to branch out into stationery design. For her own wedding, she designed her own stationery, and nearly everything else :) but ran out of time and used purchased thank you cards. It was then that Amy noticed the lack of selection and certainly of customizable options.

The Thank You Card Shop carries many pre-designed cards as well as some that can be customized with your name, or photo. Even the "pre-set" cards can be customized - as we were happy to find out with our order! Cards are printed on high quality white cardstock and are available as folded cards or notes. All come with envelopes of the correct size. Wedding thank yous, baby thank yous, cards from kids or the whole family, or 'just because' - there's a thank you card for every occasion at the Thank You Card Shop!

There are actually so many designs I liked on the Thank You Card Shop, I made up a suggestion list, and Amy surprised us with a few cards of several designs. The kids are very pleased with their personalized notes, as are the parents of course! :)

The "elephant family" card was originally offered as a family of 4 - 2 elephant parents and 2 elephant children. We are a family of 5, so I asked Amy if she could change the elephant family to reflect ours - and it turned out super! :) The elephant children are even a different size!

Amy is constantly designing new cards - there are some cool new options in the "new" cards section. Check out her shop and say "Thank You" your own way!

Loving the LuvBuggy

Summer is all about being outside, and we LOVE to take full advantage of any nice days that come along. :) One thing that we do find tricky sometimes is thinking of a way to keep all 3 of our young ones happy & comfortable...that is, without having to carry them for blocks on end! :) Graco recently came out with a brand new Stroller - the LuvBuggy! It is a Signature Series 3-in-1 Modular Stroller, and is jam-packed with great features for parents & kids on-the-go. There are 3 great seating positions for babies & toddlers. This is one of my favorite parts of the stroller - the versatility. The stroller has an infant car seat position where baby is up high, and close to the parent. (stroller comes with a car seat adapter as well!) The rear-facing stroller mode is where baby faces you...so they can see you and watch you and you can easily interact and talk with your child yet still keep your eyes on the "road." Lastly, the LuvBuggy has a regular forward-facing position where your child faces the world and is free to discover and view all that is going on around them.

In addition to the the variety of seating options, there are a few other features that I really am a big fan of...including:

~ stroller holds children up to 50lbs...so our kids won't outgrow it anytime soon!
~ One-hand fold closes up the stroller easily (it really is simple!)
~ The forward and rear seating positions are able to make use of the 3 reclining positions.
~ Wheel suspension and swivel wheels help maneuver in even the most difficult spots!
~ Parent cups holders, ample-sized storage basket, child cup/snack holders
~ 3 or 5 point harness to grow with your child.

The LuvBuggy has a been a great addition to our home. The only downside I found is that it is a little on the larger side - so it's harder to store than some of the smaller strollers, and is a bit on the heavy side when lifting/moving the stroller. But overall, I'd say that the Graco LuvBuggy is a great stroller...especially with the remarkable variety of options that comes along with it!

Summer's here...

and what are the kids going to do? Already I've noticed people are talking about the kids on summer vacation, needing structure and activities! And it's only the first week of vacation here!

We recently received a package of new products from Crayola. I've used Crayola products since I was a child, and always had great results - the lack of artistic ability wasn't Crayola's fault! :) Now, with their great washable products, you can be pretty sure that if an 'accident' occurs, you're going to be able to get it clean. And, did you know they have a great customer help centre, with tips online and by phone on how to solve dilemmas such as: "What do you do if a crayon has been washed in the dishwasher?" Yes, unfortunately, I know the answer to that one! :)

Back to our summer pack. In the box was 3 new items: coloured bubbles, Presto Dots car set and Crayola Beginnings Colour Me a Song.

Model Magic Presto Dots car set

There are several different Presto Dots sets: animals, creatures, cars, pizza/popcorn. What's nice about these sets is that everything is included. (no disappointed kids who receive this one, and can't do it right away because you need something you don't have) Jonathan was very keen to make his Presto Dots car. Like most Crayola products, you can follow the "guidelines" or make your own design, which is what Jonathan did. Unlike markers, or other clay sets, however, this one only makes a car, and only once. The model magic "clay" is easy to manipulate, comes off hands, tables, etc etc easily :), and sticks very well to itself, making the model making very easy, and something Jonathan (age 5) could do completely on his own. This would make a great present for a creative child, or for someone needing some creative stimulation, as there are instructions, and you could follow them exactly to make the car in the example.

Coloured Bubbles

Ok, this is a messy one. But very fun! :) Bubbles of any kind seem to amuse kids of all ages, and colour seems to just add to the fun! Crayola calls these washable - the colour is meant to wash easily off skin, clothing, etc etc. Be warned: wear play clothes and stay away from the house, deck - any surface you don't want to have to clean later! :) So, there we were, standing in the middle of the grass, blowing orange and green bubbles! (they also come in purple, blue and pink), wearing our oldest paint clothes. Spatters got on all 3 of us, and washed off our skin easily with only water, except Daniel's hands, which I didn't get to until later, then we had to scrub with soap. Some spatters got on a plastic kids table, and they washed off right away too. One splotch (when you hold the bottle sideways, solution leaks out!) landed on Jonathan's shorts, and I had to work at the stain to get it out. Crayola recommends laundering bubble clothes right away with Tide - I don't use conventional laundry soap, so I can't comment on that way of cleaning. But my special stain bar did take out the colour eventually.  The bubble jars have a flap over the opening, to prevent big spills, but it seems to make it hard to get the wands out without spattering the solution everywhere, or popping the bubble before you get to blow. Also, a lot of solution seems to stick to the wand, as well as in the blowing place. I think this is a fun product, but I'm not sure I would buy it again - I'm not sure the extra cleaning up the kids and myself is worth it.

Crayola Beginnings Color Me a Song

Like an electronic clipboard, as you colour on a paper on top of the "color me a song," music plays. The faster you colour, the faster the song! Choose from 4 different instruments, or make a combination for your piece. At first, we only heard one song, but happily, there are several! If no one touches the colouring surface for 10 seconds, the song shuts off. When touched again, a new song plays. Something I really like is the volume switch (off, low, high)! Because this is touch-sensitive, it works if you touch the surface with your fingers too, not only with crayons (8 triangular crayons are included with the set). It's an age 2+ item, probably because of the motor skills needed to colour. Daniel is quite keen on this, and is just starting to become interested in colouring on paper - he's much more of a "run-around" kind of kid. Very cool, and a great way to combine art and music!
