YOU Could be a Glimpse Mom!

Recently we have had to say good-bye to one of our fabulous Glimpse Moms who's been with us from the very start - Stacey. (we'll miss you Stacey!) It was wonderful having her on our team. However, it's not all bad news! This means that we have an opening for another Canadian mom to join the Glimpse team and it could be YOU!

Here are the details...we are looking for someone who has some blogging experience (has kept up a blog of some sort on a regular basis) and that would be committed to doing the following:

~Post 1-2 reviews per week on Glimpse (this includes contacting companies, receiving FREE products to keep and review, as well as posting your reviews/giveaways on the products/shops)
~ Add discount buttons and a button/banner to our Shop Links page for each company you review a product from
~Technical know-how...in other words: know how to create a header and design a template and be able to give Glimpse a face-lift 1-2 times a year!

So, if you are a Canadian mom (and yes, you have to be Canadian, since that is the whole point of Glimpse) with the above skills and interests, please email me ASAP at andrea.glimpse@gmail.com. When you email, please tell me a bit about yourself and your family, what skills you can offer, and why you want to be part of the Glimpse team! As soon as I receive your email I'll send you the Application Details which you can start to complete as soon as you have the time. :) The search will close on February 14, 2011, and the winner will be announced approx. 1 week later.

A Goodbye...

Glimpse all began because of a little dream and a lot of passion for Canada and Canadian products...and one of our initial dreamers was Stacey. She's been with us here at Glimpse right from the start. :) We've loved having Stacey as a part of our Glimpse Mom Team. However, Stacey has decided end her time with Glimpse and put more focus on other areas of her life and family at this time. So here we are...saying goodbye to a fellow teammate - trying to put into words how much we'll miss working with her. Of course, we can always still check in with Stacey and her adorable family on her personal blog!

Stacey's been great to work with. Friendly and helpful, Stacey never minded answering the same question again. :) Luckily... Stacey was always ready with a compliment, and wanted to make sure everything rolled smoothly along.

Thank you for being a part of Glimpse Stacey...and for coming up with the idea of an All-Canadian Review Blog! We've loved having you as a part of our team. :)

One Last Note From Stacey...

I just really want to thank Andrea and Julie for being so awesome :) I couldn't have asked for a better team this last year or so! They both bring such a great positive feeling to Glimpse, and I know that they will continue to make it that way for all of our readers.

I also want to say thanks to all of you... our faithful readers! I have really enjoyed reading your comments, helping you figure out how to enter the giveaways, working out prize issues, etc. Keep on coming back, because I know Glimpse will only get better and better!

I know I will miss writing for Glimpse, and I'm so thankful that I had this opportunity for the last 2 years or so. It's just time for me to take more time for my family, and just enjoy being away from the computer a bit more each day.

Thanks again for making the last two years a fabulous adventure :)

Medicine Chest in a Bottle ~ GIVEAWAY! (3 WINNERS!)

Essential oils are fabulous things...and they can really play a very important part in our health and well-being! There is one in particular that I've discovered that really stands out to me, and that is Wild Oil of Oregano. Hedd Wyn Essentials creates a wonderful, high quality Oil of Oregano product and they generously sent our family a few bottles to use throughout the winter months (and beyond!) Now if you've never heard of Wild Oil of Oregano before, listen up! ;) It has SO MANY benefits...and it is very effective...check out the facts below:

~ It has been scientifically researched and proven to be one of the strongest and most effective broad spectrum antibiotics known to man.
~ It is natural and safe to use - NO side effects!
~ It will not create more mutant strains of bacteria.
~ It effectively kills bacteria of every variety with only tiny amounts.
~ It is effective against fungus, parasites and viruses.
~ It can be used externally and internally.
~ No prescription needed.
~ It is affordable.

Sounds pretty good, huh? I know you're thinking...it sounds almost too good to be true, right? ;) Well, we've been using it now for a few months and we've gone from our kids and family having a cold nearly EVERY single week to not being sick at all for the past month and a half. (Honestly...one of the kids would catch something every time we went somewhere and we'd pass it all around...and just when we got better it would start all over again! I know you moms know what I'm talking about! It's a vicious cycle sometimes.) How nice it has been to have a home with no runny noses, coughing and being woken up at 2am in order to help someone blow their nose. We've also had NO flu's this winter and I believe that it is due to using Hedd Wyn Essentials' Wild Oil of Oregano. Colds and flu's are just the tip of the iceberg though. It can be used to treat and cure MANY more conditions. There's a full list on their website, but just to whet your appetite a few of them are: head lice, canker sores, cold sores, food poisoning, headaches, warts, ear infections, eczema and loads more.

Hedd Wyn Essentials is 100% committed to providing the very best of what Nature has to offer in its original composition. To me this is very important. All of their products are filled with essential oils, herbs and foods which are wildcrafted or grown using organic methods of cultivation. They are completely free of chemical pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers. The Oil of Oregano is made from Wild Mediterranean Oregano which is picked by hand. No additives are used and nothing is taken away. The result? A higher quality, safer and better tasting product.

Oil of Oregano
is a product that I think every family should have on hand. It is safe for kids (if they won't swallow it simply rub a little on the bottom of their feet) and adults alike...and it really, truly works. We are very impressed with it and you can be sure that if you come over for a visit you'll always find a bottle of it in our vitamin/medicine cabinet! :)

WIN IT!
Hedd Wyn Essentials is giving THREE of our readers a bottle of Wild Oil of Oregano. In order to get one entry, head over to Hedd Wyn Essentials and let us know something you learned on their website.

Choices, Choices ~ Claudia's Choices!

Likely many of you have made resolutions nearly a month ago - can you believe it's nearly the end of January? Maybe your resolutions involved making better choices: for yourself, for your family, for the environment? Now, a month in, you're wondering how to keep it all going. Well, it's all in the choices, and Claudia's Choices is an online shop that can certainly help you out!

Claudia's intention is to bring "envirosponsible" products on the market. Like many other mompreneurs, the birth of her daughter was a catalyst to making better choices for her family, and making those same options available for other families quickly followed. It all started with cloth diapers for the baby, and continued with laundry detergent for the diapers. From there it has progressed to many other environmentally friendly products that help you protect your family as well. A sampling of what's available at Claudia's Choices includes:

  • laundry powder, magnetballs, washboards
  • household cleaners and microfibre cloths
  • reusable diapers and accessories
  • eco lifestyle products and books

I've been using Claudia's Choices Ultra Phosphate Free Laundry Powder. It arrived just in time to start using when I was washing up the baby clothes prior to Annalies' birth. I've used it for the whole family's dirty laundry, and it's worked well: toddler clothes with food stains, baby clothes with milk and poop stains, cloth diapers etc! I especially like that it's unscented, and it rinses out completely. In fact, it's been recommended by Bummis as suitable for washing cloth diapers! The laundry powder dissolves easily in cold water if you prefer cold water washing, and is low-sudsing, so perfect for HE machines as well as other washers. Another plus: this laundry powder is made in Canada!

BUY IT!

Claudia's Choices is offering Glimpse readers a great deal! Receive one 770g Claudia’s Choices Ultra Phosphate Free Laundry Powder for FREE with the purchase of one dozen (12) Easy Fit premium easy-stuff reusable diapers at www.claudiaschoices.ca. Enter promo code “GLIMPSE” in the comment section at checkout. Valid until June 30, 2011.

Nature Made Sleep ~ Giveaway! 2/7

I think it's safe to say that almost everyone has a hard time falling asleep sometimes. Whether it's a big decision on our minds, too much coffee, or just a hard time sleeping in general, we all have our bad nights.

Nature Made Sleep is an awesome solution to this problem. I know I hate using unneccessary medication, and would rather go with a more natural remedy most of the time. Nature Made Sleep is an all-natural sleep aid that will help you drift off to a soothing, restful sleep.

The active ingredient in Nature Made Sleep is Melatonin, which is a hormone that naturally occurs in our bodies. It is responsible for setting our internal clock, and so taking a melatonin supplement like Nature Made Sleep will help to reset that clock, resulting in a much more restful sleep.

I have to admit that I wasn't able to personally try this product (though it sure would have come in handy some nights!) as I'm still nursing Emery. While melatonin is a natural hormone, it is still not considered safe to take while pregnant or breastfeeding. Please take that into consideration when thinking about taking this sleep aid, and talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns.

WIN IT!
One lucky (and possibly tired, lol) Glimpse reader will win a 3 month supply of Nature Made Sleep! All you need to do is share your tricks for getting a good night's sleep.

One Hockey Night ~ Scholastic Monday!

This week for Scholastic Monday we've got an awesome book...it's such a heartwarming story...and even brought tears to my eyes the first time I read it to my kids. I truly love this book. One Hockey Night brings together hockey and the holiday season so beautifully, and the story takes place right here in Canada. To sum it up, One Hockey Night is a story of Owen and Holly - brother and sister - who had to move away from their friends and everything they knew. This can be hard on kids at the best of times...but it was especially hard for Holly and Owen as they missed skating on the lake and playing hockey with their friends. As they spent their days dreaming of ice and hockey, their dad was busy creating a fantastic surprise for them in their very own backyard. The surprise was revealed on Christmas Eve - an ice rink - perfect for playing hockey. Not only was there an ice rink, but the surprise was even better when many friends and neighbors in their new hometown showed up to play hockey with them!

We loved this book...it's a great way to remind kids that even when we think something is not going that great or if we're having a tough time with moving to a new province...that things can turn out better than we ever expected. :) One Hockey Night by David Ward delicately intertwines the holidays, hockey, the struggle of moving away and the love of family. The end result is wonderful. If you are moving in the near future; if you love hockey; or if you simply want a good book to read this would be a perfect one to add to your bookshelf! Check it out here at Scholastic Canada.

Polka-dots and EIO! GIVEAWAY!

No, I'm not singing a popular farm song! I'm here to tell you about a great online shop called Polka-dot Pond and a fun sippy cup called the EIO Kids cup!

Polka-dot Pond is based in Cranbrook, BC. They have a great collection of items for babies, older kids, parents and even pets! Items are sorted by category, and it's easy to browse through their stock: click on skincare, bath time or meal time, for example, to find that special something you're looking for. There are many other categories as well - it's a fun shop to look through! Another great feature of this website is that you can browse by material (the object is made of), brand or origin (where it's made). Polka-dot Pond focuses on natural and organic products, and you can find a wonderful variety of fun and safe products for your children and family.

Lynnette from Polka-dot Pond is great to deal with. She's friendly and offers good advice. Shipping is handled promptly. Polka-dot Pond has a great loyalty system of Pond points. You can earn points by opening an account, purchasing products and submitting a product review. Points can be redeemed on future purchases.

When you look through the kids' mealtime collection, you'll find a great sippy cup: the EIO kids cup! This cup is spout-free, doesn't have a valve and is available in several colours. The cup is made from glass, so you don't have to worry about any evil additives in your child's cup. The cup is exactly like a small-mouthed canning jar, and comes with a silicone sleeve to make holding it easier. The lid is designed to help your child to transition to a real glass, while still preventing large messes. It promotes safe and correct sipping - nothing to chew on, no small parts to lose, and no sucking motion. As your child gets older, the cup can be used without the lid, and then finally, if you really don't want to use it as a cup any more, you can use it as a canning jar - how's that for minimizing waste?!

Polka-dot Pond sent Daniel an EIO cup to try out. He's been very pleased with it - partly because he recognizes that it's more like our glasses! I was a little nervous about giving him a glass cup, but so far he's managed perfectly - no big spills or drops! The silicone sleeve makes it easy to grip the cup. The cup holds 8 oz which is the perfect size for little hands to hold, and is great for at the table. The cup is dishwasher safe - hooray!

WIN IT!

Polka-dot Pond is offering an EIO cup to a Glimpse reader! To enter, please visit Polka-dot Pond and comment on another product that caught your attention.

A Little Jam for Us All ~ GIVEAWAY

Mmmm...Jam...it's good stuff. :) And reading...that's just the thing that our brains need some days! So what could jam and reading books have in common? Well, Canadian author & illustrator Sarah Jackson has tied these two parts of life together in the most fun and whimsical way! She has five JAM books that she's created and they're a lot of fun. We received a classic J is for Jam book to read with our kids - and it is great. What a fun way to learn the letter J and to learn about what sound the letter J makes...and what some words are that begin with J! We're teaching our oldest his alphabet now and J is for Jam was great little tool to add into our repertoire. :) There's even a special page in the book for your child to draw their favorite J word...like I said, this is a unique and fun book that your children will surely love!

Secondly we also reviewed The Shapes that Tessel ate. This is specifically a children's educational book that introduces all sorts of different geometrical shapes and gives your child a taste of the mathematical concept of "tesselation"...I have never been a big fan of math, but I did used to love tesselation when I was in school! ;) I'm hoping that this book can help my kids enjoy learning shapes & a few math concepts as well...I will definitely say that it is a good resource to have on hand. For now we're focused just on the shapes...but I love that this book can "grow with your child" and that you can use it to teach more difficult concepts as they grow older. :)

Sarah Jackson has several other great children's books too...they're simple & fun and are something a little different from many of the usual children's books you see! She creates more than just books though...I saw some real sweet t-shirts, bookmarks and more while browsing around! Head over to her great little website, A Jam Story, and take a look!

WIN IT!
One of our readers is going to win several of the most adorable Valentine's cards from Sarah's Etsy shop - Raspberry of Sarah. With Valentine's Day quickly approaching these would be just the thing to give to your loved one. In order to get one entry, head over to A Jam Story and let us know which one of Sarah Jackson's books you would like to own.

The Phytozyme Cure ~ GIVEAWAY!

I've always been interested in the 'natural side' of things...in how to eat and live healthier, and how to cure ourselves without running to the doctor for prescriptions and drugs all the time. Since having our 3rd baby our family was overrun with yeast infections as well as a few other conditions, and to say the least, it has been a long journey and at times a discouraging and frustrating one too. We've had many doctors tell us that "nothing is wrong"...yet we know that couldn't be true. Since then we've found some answers through natural remedies, and we recently received a wonderful new book to aid us in our quest for health as well. Natural health expert Dr. Michelle Schoffro Cook has written The Phytozyme Cure which is packed to the brim with information on the healing powers of phytonutrients and enzymes. I'd heard about these things before, but little did I know exactly how important they actually are to our immune systems, health and bodies in general. Now I know that a lot of us make new years resolutions that involve aspirations of eating healthier, exercising more and simply just taking better care of ourselves and our families...well, Michelle's Phytozyme Therapy that is presented in her book would be a great place to start! Did you know that phytonutrients & enzymes can help (and even cure!) your body of all sorts of ailments? They can prevent heart disease, speed weight loss, remove inflammation and toxins, attack cancer cells and more?! I know, I know...just that short list may sound too good to be true, but there's countless benefits to filling our bodies with the nutrients described in the Phytozyme Therapy. Here's a few more to whet your appetite:

o Improved energy
o Greater mental clarity
o Increased resistance to illness
o A more youthful appearance

I know I could use a boost in energy as well as resistance to illness! As I read through the book I found countless tips on how to cure, protect and feed my body. The neat thing about the Phytozyme Cure is that it is not a "one-size-fits-all cure". There are several different routes/plans, and I'm sure that one will be tailored to meet your needs...I know I quite easily discovered which one I was to follow. This book has already been a great help to our family and I know that I will be keeping it nearby and referencing it often as we travel on the road to health! There's a lot of "health books" out there, but as you strive to meet your new years resolutions this year I would definitely recommend taking a look at The Phytozyme Cure!

WIN IT!
One of our readers is going to win their own copy of the Phytozyme Cure. In order to get one entry share one of your new years resolutions with us.

Druide Baby

Druide is a Canadian company manufacturing personal care products. Their products respect human skin/hair needs while also respecting the environment. Druide has a great collection of products for adults and kids, from normal care to sensitive skin needs. They've been producing and perfecting their baby line since 1995 and the quality is great! Druide baby products are free from:
  • Gluten
  • Nuts and nut traces
  • Animal derivatives
  • Petroleum derivatives and other mineral oils
  • Talc
  • Estrogens
  • GMOs
Our baby has been through a lot lately. Many things changed for her (and us) when she was hospitalized. One thing we were glad to keep the same was her personal care products. We were allowed to use our own shampoo, soap, lotion and diaper cream while caring for Annalies in the hospital. We brought along our Druide products - what a great set! So practical in their own bag, and they work wonderfully on our baby's skin and hair! Packaging is minimal and recyclable - the soap is wrapped in cardboard instead of plastic.

Annalies has been enjoying the Baby Starter Kit from Druide. Included in a handy travel toilet bag is a bottle of baby shampoo, a pump of baby lotion, a container of diaper cream, and a bar of soap. We love these products - they're easy to use and do exactly what they're supposed to. This is a great set for a new baby - all the products you need for baby's bath and diaper routines. The set retails for $34.99 (CAD) - a terrific price for these 4 long-lasting products.

Baby Shampoo
Druide's baby shampoo contains hibiscus and natural fruit extracts. It lathers up nicely without overdoing it, and Annalies' hair and scalp look and feel and smell clean after washing! The shampoo is certified organic, and is very gentle on baby's scalp and hair. It's concentrated, so you only need to use a little bit. I just wish this came in a pump container like the lotion - it would make one-handed baby bathing just a little bit easier!

Calming Baby Soap
The shape of the bar of soap is already a big help - rounded so it's easier to hold on to while bathing a wiggly baby! The soap (ours was green instead of yellow) contains mango butter and chamomile, vitamin E and aloe, and these ingredients work together to clean, purify and protect the skin. The soap is very gentle on the skin. While in the hospital, I'd forgotten to bring (or have brought) my facial soap, so I used this one and it was super! My skin normally dries out if I wash my face with soap, but not this time. And, I really love the smell as well!

Baby Soothing Lotion
More like a moisturizing milk than a cream, this lotion rubs into baby's skin smoothly and quickly, which is an advantage around here - Annalies doesn't have much patience for long-lasting skin-care routines at this stage! Before we started using the lotion, her skin was looking a little dry, but now it's right back to baby softness! The lotion contains mango butter and hibiscus flower; it helps to protect, moisturize and soothe delicate baby skin, and works great on toddlers and older kids as well!

Baby Protective Balm
This balm is so much more than just a diaper cream! It works great to protect your baby's skin - in the diaper area for sure, but also other places prone to rashes or irritation. In the hospital, they use cloth wipes. I'm not sure what kind of soap they use (I'm sure it must negate any environmental benefits of cloth wipes) but the cloths are very rough. In fact, they're much better suited as exfoliants than baby wipes. Annalies was fortunate to not suffer any irritation, and I think it's due to the protective balm, which we used at every diaper change. Daniel has an irritated bum right now and he asks for this cream to be put on - it really seems to soothe his skin. I noticed Annalies was developing cradle cap on her eyebrows, so every day I put a little of the balm on her eyebrows. The cradle cap had completely disappeared within 2.5 weeks. The balm can also be used on baby's face, behind the ears, and on the knees once baby starts to crawl. Druide also suggests using the protective balm on eczema patches.

BUY IT!

Druide products are available directly from their website. Shipping is reasonable at $4.99 flat rate within Canada and $9.99 to the USA. Plus, they offer free shipping on orders over $60.00.

Carebags - ANOTHER GIVEAWAY! (10 WINNERS!)

People have been looking at us with curiosity in the supermarket's produce section, and again at the checkout. I don't think we look any more unusual than we used to :) but we are using reusable produce bags now, and we seem to be the only ones I've noticed! We've had lots of positive comments about them too.  The Carebags reusables have certainly generated their fair share of interest - it would be great if more people started using them! Our local supermarket has started using the thinnest possible plastic produce bags ever - before we started using reusable produce bags, our fruit or veg had fallen out of the bag several times. And, the plastic bags were accumulating at our house, and there's really no way you can reuse them. I was so pleased to receive a sample of Carebags reusables, and they've been great for us!

In the weeks that we've been using the reusables, we've bought many different kinds of fruit and vegetables, and here's what we've noticed:
  • you can fit a surprising amount in the bag - it's very stretchy yet very strong
  • the bags are easy to take with you as they scrunch up really small, and you can even get them with a stuff sack - even easier to carry along
  • produce stored in the bags in the fridge keeps really well as it can breathe
  • they're see-through, so the cashier can still read the produce codes or figure out what kind of fruit or veg you've got
  • the drawstring makes it easy to close the bag and keep stuff in
Something I really like about the Carebags company is that the bags are produced right in Canada. They support local business and the local economy. The reusables have been tested for 19 years, and are still going strong - so they're a great, durable product. You can bring your produce home, wash it and store it right in the bag. The Carebags website has some great tips for how to keep your produce fresh, and the reusable bag certainly helps!

WIN IT - ANOTHER GREAT CONTEST!

Carebags is offering 10 lucky winners a single reusable bag! In order to enter, please leave us a comment stating how you would use your reusable bag (look at the website for ideas of other uses besides produce!).

*If you have already won a Carebags reusable bag from Andrea's review or Stacey's review, please do not enter again. We'd like to give more people the chance to try them out! Thanks!*

Keep 'Em Up! ~ GIVEAWAY!

It seems that we tend to produce children that are on the slim side. They are fine boned through & through which is great...but there is one downside and that is the constant drooping and sagging of their pants! It has proven to be quite difficult to find pants that are not too wide on our kids' little waists, and often the only reason they have pants that fit properly is because Grandma sewed them or because we've done some adjusting of our own to the pants (aka...taking them apart and sewing them back together with a much smaller waist line). Both of these solutions are a time-consuming though, and well, let's face it...time isn't always in abundance around here. Snugglywunkins recently sent us two fabulous belts to help us get rid of the "droop & sag look". :) The first one is an adjustable snap belt. These are perfect for pants with belt loops. It simply snaps around the back belt loops and is adjustable with a few different snaps. It's the perfect belt for a toddler too since they won't have to worry about undoing it and re-doing when going to the bathroom. But what about pants that don't have belt loops? Snugglywunkins has a solution for that too - the Clip Belt. I've never come across a belt like this before and it is truly ingenious! We love it! It snaps to the fabric at the back of your little one's pants and keeps them where they are supposed to be. I wasn't too sure how well these would work at first...would the fabric slip out? Would they hold? After using them MANY times in the past few weeks I must say that I am VERY impressed. :) The clips on this belt have a very strong grip and have not let loose at all from my daughter's pants at all. Both of these belts are easy to use, are made with quality materials and well worth the few $$$ that you'll pay for them!

Now what about us Moms? I don't know about you, but more often than not I find that my hands are too full for all the kids or stuff that I should be holding onto! Snugglywunkins has just introduced her new Wristlet Keychains...a little something to help us moms out! Instead of trying to find a place to put your keys simply keep them safe by slipping the durable 10" loop over your wrist when you need an extra hand. There are some really gorgeous patterns for the Wristlet Keychains as well.

Snugglywunkins is a wonderful shop...and one of the best parts is that everything is made by a mom and tested and tried by her children. I truly can (and will!) vouch for the fact that some of the best products we've received are ones that have been made by Moms. Snugglywunkins has a variety of other practical, must-have products for moms & children as well. Head over and check out her newly designed shop and be sure to take a peek at the new items that have just been added as well!

YOU pillows discount

I've just updated the YOU pillows review to clearly state the discount they're offering. Guess my brain was a bit foggy when I published that one - I was working on a hospital computer in the Ronald McDonald Family Room at our Children's Hospital.

Anyway...

The discount is for 30% off!!! Yes, 30%!

Agent Mama - Undercover! GIVEAWAY!

When you're nursing your baby, it is really handy to have clothes that allow you to breastfeed discreetly. But do you really want to buy a whole new wardrobe? Well, yes :) but most of us can't afford that! I know I'm always so happy to get out of the maternity clothes and back into my regular clothes, but I have to pick and choose what I wear, especially out of the house, so that nursing is possible and convenient and discreet! Other moms must have this same dilemma too.

Here's another case of "necessity is the mother of invention" and the inventor here is a mom who was tired of having an exposed back, side and tummy while breastfeeding, but didn't want to purchase a whole new set of clothes. The founder of Undercover Mama wanted to make something simple, without extra clasps to undo and do up, and still functional. The camisole she designed makes "any shirt a nursing shirt!"

The Undercover Mama camisole is available in 7 colours, and 5 sizes. If you're not sure about sizing, they are very easy to contact for help.

I was sent a white Undercover Mama, and I received it before Annalies was born, when I was in the final weeks of the pregnancy. By then, the nursing bras fit the most comfortably, and my adjustable maternity waistbands were having trouble staying up at the waist. :) I started wearing the Undercover Mama right away. It's easy to clip on to any nursing bra, right under the clasp on the straps, and it was stretchy enough to go over my tummy and help to hold up my skirt! :)

Now that baby's here, I've worn the Undercover Mama many times. It's great for an extra layer during the winter, helps to smooth out the wiggly tummy because the stretch stays, and most importantly, makes it easy to stay mostly covered up - discreet and warm - when breastfeeding away from home! You just unclip your bra at the clasp, and the Undercover Mama drops down as well. It's easy to care for - I just wish I had more!

WIN IT!

Undercover Mama is giving one camisole in choice of black or white to a lucky Glimpse reader. (of course you can specifiy the correct size as well!) To enter, please visit Undercover Mama and tell us your favourite colour.

EXTRA ENTRIES - Please leave an additional comment for each extra entry.

Announce with Buttercup Prints!

New babies need announcing! Different cultures do this differently - in the Netherlands, where our first son was born, the announcements are ordered in advance, and all that is required is a quick phone all with the pertinent information once baby is born, announcements are printed, and sent off as quickly as possible, arriving at their destination the day after they've been sent! We've noticed a lot more photo announcements here in North America and decided to go that way when Annalies was born.

But...once you've decided to send a photo announcement, you have only just begun! Then comes: do we design them ourselves or have them created? And, there are many businesses out there offering birth announcement services. Well, we decided to have someone more experienced than ourselves design our cards, and when we found Buttercup Prints, we knew we'd come to the right place! Their webpage features many different designs. All are customizable in a multitude of ways. Right from the beginning, our communication with Jana and Yvette, the ladies who run Buttercup Prints, has been excellent. They're quick to reply, offer suggestions without being bossy :) and do everything they can to make the customer happy.

Choosing a design was a bit tricky at first, as there are so many great announcements available! And, if we hadn't found one that we liked mostly, Buttercup Prints will create one "from scratch" at no extra cost! How cool is that! Finally we decided on "August Y", but we didn't want a 5"X5", but rather a 4"X6". No problem, the design was quickly altered to fit the size we wanted. Each time we asked for a change, a new sample image was sent to us very quickly, so we could see what it would actually look like.

Buttercup Prints will print and mail you the announcements for a reasonable price, including envelopes. We wanted to send our announcement in with our Christmas cards - timing was right, and it would save us a lot of postage overseas! A huge plus was the fact that Buttercup Prints will email you the finished digital file and you can print it yourself, at home or at your local favourite place to print digital photos! Another bonus of a 4"X6" announcement!

Changing the size was no problem and neither was changing the layout either. Instead of 3 photos along the right side, we only wanted 2. We also wanted to include some Dutch, and metric measurements for our Dutch family and friends. Once again, it was no problem! Along the way, we decided to change a few more things, and each change was made promptly and exactly the way we wanted!

And the finished product: you can see for yourself! We are really pleased with the announcement, and have received many compliments on it!

By the time we got around to sending our announcements, we'd already started receiving gifts from local family and friends, and needed Thank You cards. One night during a mid-night feeding (when I get my best ideas lately!), I wondered what it would be like to have a card with the same design as our announcement. In short order, I had a digital file for that as well, and because I wanted to print 4 cards on a sheet of cardstock, Yvette made a pdf of 4 cards for me - saving me a bunch of work! Originally, I'd thought of buying pale pink cardstock, and printing on that, but my husband was worried the pinks might not match up. So we got out our supply of white cardstock, and this is what we ended up with:

Exactly enough room to write just what is needed, and not too much room to fill up either! Lazy me!

Buttercup Prints will also design invitations for you: christening, birthday, wedding - you name it! We've just passed the holiday card season, but really, you should check out their greeting card selection as well and keep them in mind for next year - I'm sure you'll be happy with the result!

Back home again!

Our family has been through a really rough time the past few weeks. Our baby girl, 9 weeks old today, was admitted to the Children's Hospital on December 28th. The diagnosis turned out to be Pertussis (Whooping Cough). It's one of the diseases babies get vaccinated for in their first sets of shots, but Annalies hasn't had hers yet. Apparently, even if you do have the immunization, you're not fully immune. And, whooping cough is much more common than you'd think. For older children and adults, it just seems like a bad cold. Anyway, to make a long, involved story short, we're back home again, as of yesterday. We have had many scary moments - Annalies would cough and cough, choke, gasp and "whoop" and then stop breathing, and turn blue, sometimes as often as 13 times per nursing shift (12 hours). Fortunately, she hasn't done the "blue" thing since Tuesday afternoon, which is why they've let us go home. She will still cough for weeks or maybe even months.

We had no idea what whooping cough was like, and probably many of you don't either - you don't really hear much about it. All of this just to say, if your baby or child starts to cough a congested cough, with a choky sound or a gaspy whoop, take them to the dr immediately!

Sleeping with Wild Animals ~ GIVEAWAY!

Our kids spend approximately 12 hours out of every 24 hours in their pj's! :) And if they could they might even spend all 24 hours in their pj's most days...because let's face it...pjama's are just so comfy & cozy! Gramma's Sewing & Crafts recently sent Tate a new pair of pjama's to snuggle up in. They are currently one of his favorite pairs - mainly because they are covered in WILD animals. What boy wouldn't want a pair of Wild Animal Pjama's?? Gramma's Sewing & Crafts made these by hand...and the quality is great. I love the soft, warm flannel that they are made from (perfect for the cooler months of the year!), and the sizing of these pjama's is wonderful too. Tate is usually too tall for most things in size 4, but these pj's are made for sizes 4-6 so they fit him really well - and they definitely have some growing room too! It's great to see Tate being the proud new owner of these pjama's from Gramma's Sewing & Crafts...and its even better to know that he'll be able to make good use out of them and use them this winter as well as next winter.

Besides these fabulous pj's Gramma's Sewing & Crafts has piles of other fun, stylish and quality handmade items. All of the items are either crocheted or sewn...and I must say, there's a lot of great things to pick from! Like this real fun jacket or these cozy looking poncho's. There's items for babies to ladies (moms!) and those in between too. Head over to Gramma's Sewing & Crafts and check out all of the wonderful crocheted and sewn clothing and accessories...there's lots to choose from! :)

Sassies for the Sisters ~ GIVEAWAY!

There's something about having two little girls that makes me want to dress them alike. :) They're just so cute when they are matching...or when they have outfits that coordinate. Even the little things can add a special touch to a girls outfit...things such as hair clips & accessories! Sprogs.ca recently sent our two girls each a set of the sweetest Hair Sassies. There's a "Big Sister" set and of course and equally cute "Lil' Sister" set. The clips are so unique, and the fact that they have a little message on them makes them extra special. All of the Hair Sassies are made right here in Canada and are made with quality products and workmanship. We're definitely loving our new sassies for the sisters. ;)

Besides hair accessories you'll find a ton of other great accessories for kids at Sprogs.ca. One thing that I just love about Sprogs is that they try to find and sell products that are made by moms...I love a shop that supports moms - and well, let's face it. Moms are often the ones who know best what works and doesn't work when it comes to kids accessories! There's some real fun products as well - like the Souper Super Spoon! Eating soup will be a whole new adventure with a flying "super spoon!" You'll also find some fun craft ideas, belts, superhero accessories and more!

Scholastic Monday - The Mighty Tim Horton

With all the frigid temperatures and the layers of snow covering the ground it sure doesn't seem that winter will be coming to an end any time soon, does it? Canadian winters can seem long, but there's also some great parts about the season of winter and one of those parts is Hockey! Canada is a nation that loves hockey...and the book that we're featuring from Scholastic Canada today is a perfect for the season of Canadian hockey! The Mighty Tim Horton is a story of Trevor...a defenseman. He's got the build to be a great hockey player...larger sized & sturdy, however he doesn't always use these assets wisely! The story portrays Trevor who is taking needless penalties and costing his team along wins in the process. As the story proceeds Trevor happens to meet one of the Leafs' greatest defensemen - Tim Horton himself! Knowing that he's having trouble on his team, Trevor makes a wise move and asks Tim Horton for advice and gains some great tips - now he just has to put them into practice...

The Mighty Tim Horton is especially great for hockey-loving boys! It has some great values embedded in the pages as well - things such as following advice from those who have been there before, practicing self control & teamwork and more! We really enjoyed reading this book with our kids...it is a great Canadian story that can be read over and over again!

A Pillow for YOU!

You've got to love a good pillow! I certainly appreciate mine! But when you're pregnant, or nursing, or even just playing with your newborn, a regular-shaped pillow just isn't good enough. But it isn't really practical to try to find a different pillow suitable for each activity - wouldn't it be great to find a versatile pillow you could use during pregnancy, when breastfeeding, and that other members of the family could use as well?

The YOU nursing pillow is just the thing! This fabulous pillow is great for supporting you in various positions and during various activities! Hand-made in Canada, the YOU pillow is carefully made to be a high-quality comfort and relaxation product. You can use it during pregnancy to support your increasing tummy and give comfort to your legs. As a nursing pillow, it's ideal for the "traditional" cradle or cross-cradle positions, but is also very helpful in supporting your baby in the rugby hold, or even hands-free! Older siblings can use it to help support the baby while they're having their little cuddle - Jonathan and Daniel really like this part of their day! :) Fathers, grandparents, etc can use it when giving baby a bottle, or even just during playtime. Baby can be supported on the pillow for "tummy time." You see - a very useful pillow!

We were sent a YOU pillow, and it arrived just after Annalies! :) It's been perfect for when I'm sitting on the couch nursing her. It gives us exactly the support we need, and has made it easier on my back and neck to hold her while breastfeeding. The pillow is easy to shape around you, and big enough to be everywhere you need it. I've mostly used it wrapped around one side - so one "leg" is in front of me, and the other behind me. This has been great, except when Annalies decides she wants to nurse on both sides in the same feeding. You can also position the pillow so the "legs" are on each side - but I haven't found this as easy for me. I've also used the pillow for a nap on the couch - it's great support for my head, and nice and cuddly/cozy around me!

The YOU pillow would make a perfect baby shower gift - it's a useful pillow no matter how baby is fed, and the whole family can make use of it!

BUY IT!

YOU pillows is offering Glimpse readers a fantastic discount of 30% off! Just use the promo code YP30 at checkout. Valid on purchases of YOU Pillow with either the polyester fibre or micro-polystyrene bead filler and valid until February 28, 2011.

A shop that seems to have something for everyone is On the Go Designs. On the Go Designs was started by a mom, who started sewing while on maternity leave. It was a way to stay busy during nap times, and then blossomed into a really fun hobby.

On The Go Designs sent me a few items for review. First of all, the softest, most cuddly minky baby blanket! This blanket it perfect for in the vehicle, since the weather is still frightfully cold here, and promises to be that way for a few months yet. The other items I was sent are actually for a friend of mine who just had a baby boy. There is a set of two minky wash cloths, and a burp cloth. They are all so cuddly soft! She uses quality fabrics that are sure to last.

The toy is a great example of another classic, durable and imagination-building toy from Melissa & Doug.
