Maybe you've figured out that both of us here at Glimpse like LeapFrog products! In fact, we still haven't run out of good things to say, so here's another "glimpse" :) at some great LeapFrog products!
I think we've said this before, but it bears saying again: there are Leapfrog items for a wide variety of ages and interests. We've seen some items, like Tag, Tag Jr. and Leapster2, that are great for older children. There are also some really neat toys for younger children as well.
In our LeapFrog holiday package, there was a "My Pal Scout" for Annalies and a "Lettersaurus" for Daniel.
My Pal Scout is available in English and French versions (in Canada). There's also a purple version of the dog called "My Pal Violet," which I think does exactly the same things but in a more feminine package! Each paw of the dog is another button, and it's taken Annalies about a month to figure this out, and be able to press the buttons for herself. One button plays daytime music, another plays nighttime music (for 2 minutes, 5 minutes and 10 minutes). Another button plays prerecorded speech, while the 4th button is the on/off switch. When Annalies is playing with Scout, we hear snippets of all the songs and speech Scout can do, without ever getting to the end, because she's pressed the same button again, or another button! :) She loves Scout, and walks around cuddling him, or will sit down and give him a great big hug. It's very cute! I think the coolest feature of Scout is that he can be hooked up to the LeapFrog website, via USB cable (included), so that he can be personalized. He can learn your child's name (Annaliese was the closest name on the names list), can spell your child's name, play specific songs that you choose (from a list) and his speech can be customized! Annalies' favourite animal is her pink rabbit, and so Scout is often talking about a pink rabbit too! :)
Lettersaurus is a dinosaur with a spiky Stegosaurus-like spine. Each spike is a button, representing a letter of the alphabet, in letter mode, a colour in colour mode or a song in musical mode. Lettersaurus has volume adjustment (most of the LeapFrog toys we've seen do), which I think is a great invention for noise-making toys. On top of his head, Lettersaurus has another button that sings the ABC song...finishing with "zed" sometimes and "zee" other times, seemingly at random. In any case, in about 1 week, Daniel could almost sing the ABC song correctly, just from listening to Lettersaurus! In the instructions, it tells you how to program the first letter of your child's name, so that when it's pressed, it says something about it being your child's letter!
WIN IT!!
One lucky Glimpse reader is going to win a Lettersaurus!! To enter, please visit LeapFrog and tell us another toy you'd choose for a child on your list.
