Green School ~ GIVEAWAY!!

Green School has designed a series of reusable school totes to help students be eco-friendly as well as organized. And they do really work!

Totes come in 3 sizes: pencil tote, mini tote and book tote. The nice thing about the totes is that they're made from certified 100% organic cotton canvas.
Organic cotton is earth friendly as it is grown without using pesticides, fertilizers or other harmful chemicals. It benefits the farmers, consumers and the environment.
While Green School is a Canadian company, the organic cotton totes are manufactured responsibly for green school™ by a family-owned textile company based in India. The totes are black in colour, and have a small white strip across the front where you can write your child's name. Each tote has a zipper so it closes and opens completely and easily.

Green School sells their totes to individuals through their website and totes are also available at retailers across the country. As well, Green School has an interesting fundraising program - perfect for schools to get a little extra cash. Through the fundraising program, totes are available with customized logos - wouldn't it be great to have your school's logo on a set of book totes, for example?

The pencil tote is the right size for pencils, erasers and other writing utensils, and would fit a small ruler as well.   Jonathan has been using his at home mostly, as his school provides (for a fee!) all of the supplies the students in his class need. We've carried many coloured pencils, crayons or washable markers here and there, depending on the occasion.

I really like the mini tote. We often have to send a note to school, or return a form, or send money or a cheque for something. It's best to do that in something sealed - the teacher in me knows this well - and usually I try to use an envelope. I don't always have a suitable envelope on hand, and I think it's too bad to buy envelopes just to throw them away at school. I've been using the mini tote to send things with Jonathan to school, and his teacher has been using it to send notes back - it works great, keeps things together, and is easy to find in the backpack.

Last year at school, Jonathan's class used a book tote made from plastic. At first, it smelled terrible, and by the end of the year, had gotten brittle and was wearing out on the edges. I expect they have to replace them every year. I suppose they were cheap enough to begin with, but when you have to keep buying them, the cost counts up. The book tote, made from cotton canvas, seems much more durable. Of course, it doesn't have any unpleasant odours (no off-gassing!). It's the perfect size for any paperwork, scribblers and reading books.
