Tiber River Naturals

Winter is the season for dry: air, hair, skin, lips. I use lip balm constantly, so maybe that's why my boys are so fascinated by it! :) Fortunately, as they don't have dry lips. I'm not really a fan of sharing my lip balm though (wonder why?) so we started looking around for a lip balm for Jonathan in a kid-friendly flavour. Luckily, we didn't have to look far from home, as there's a great shop called Tiber River Naturals not too far from us. They have 2 brick-and-mortar stores in Winnipeg, and also an online shop, where all of their products are available for purchase. If you are in the area, though, check out the Nail and Body bar as well - I've had a manicure, and it was a great experience!

Tiber River Naturals started in 1999 by a new mom, Adriana, who didn't want to go back to working outside the home. She knew how to make soap, so started selling her soaps at home parties. She progressed from there to making other personal care products as well, and, with her business partner Michelle, opened her first store in 2005. All of their products are made using using natural, environmentally friendly ingredients, and are made locally!

So, back to the lip balm. Jonathan and I went into the store to check out all the available flavours...and there are 9! They have testers, luckily, so we could smell before we chose! The names are fairly descriptive, and for those of you who will be shopping online, there's a description available, but for a kid, smelling all the different varieties is the ultimate test - and pleasure! The banana-flavoured lip balm appealed, in part because of it's name: Funky Monkey! Jonathan loves the taste and the smell - any of you Moms out there like banana kisses? :) I tried it a few times too (when permitted!) and found that the lip balm lasted longer than others I tried. I especially like that it's made from safe ingredients.

While we were at the shop, with baby in tow, Adriana, showed us their teething gel. Made from all natural ingredients, it tastes and smells like cloves, an "old-fashioned" remedy for toothache. A little certainly goes a long way, and it seemed to do the trick! Just drop a little on your finger and rub into baby's gums...relief!

Tiber River Naturals makes many other great products - we've tried the soap, and I've experienced a scrub and lotion during my manicure. There are more products for mom and baby, products (like shaving cream, deodorant, soap etc) with manly scents, and items to use in your home - like a produce wash with great reviews!
