Pacify your baby!

Maybe you're lucky, and your baby doesn't need a pacifier or thumb to be soothed. Or maybe, you're lucky and your baby accepted the first pacifier you tried! We were not so lucky. Our baby girl likes to suck on something (Mom makes the best pacifier). Until just this week, when she found her thumb and decided she could suck her thumb without gagging, nothing was a good as Mom. Pacifier after pacifier would go in, only to be promptly spit out, following usually by a rascally grin! On the same day she started sucking her thumb, she also, tentatively, and only when SHE is in the mood, started accepting a pacifier.

Binky

One brand of pacifier we were happy to try was Playtex, because of their reputation, and because of our experience with other products by the same brand. So when Playtex offered to send us a goodie bag including two different types of pacifiers, we jumped at the chance. Maybe one of these would satisfy our girl's choosy nature! Both are BPA-free and Phthalate-free and are available in several colours and sizes.

One pacifier is the Binky! The nipple is round, with a few ridges around it for gum stimulation - it's shape is designed to be "Most like Mother." We tried the decorated Binky. It's made of silicone, which is durable and easy to clean. The handle makes it easy for a parent to hold on to - especially handy if you're trying to convince your baby that THIS is the one! :)

Ortho-Pro

Another pacifier we tried is the Ortho-pro with sterilizing cover. The nipple of this pacifier is angled, and contoured (smaller at the bottom and bigger at the top). I really like the snap 'n clean cover - just fill the cover to the line with water, stick the pacifier in the cover until it clicks, and place in the microwave for 2 minutes! Very quick and handy! :)

So far, neither of these pacifiers is THE one for Annalies - but she will accept them both for a short time. :) Then again, none of the pacifiers we've tried has been a rousing success, so maybe we just have to accept that.
