Scholastic Monday ~ Doodlewire

I remember as a kid I LOVED to doodle & draw! In fact, one of the first "dream jobs" that I wanted to have when I grew up was an artist. Drawing or doodling really is a great past time. It's fun to create and to imagine...and just to see what you can come up with! Scholastic Canada carries a fabulous line of Klutz books. I love the looks of these books - they are actually often more "play" than "read" type of books and are filled with fun, new activities that are perfect for a variety of ages...and a great way to put an end to the saying: "Mommy, I'm bored!" Scholastic Canada sent over their Klutz Doodlewire book for us to 'doodle' with! You can doodle all sorts of things...as long as you have a pen or pencil...but what about if you were to doodle with something new, something that doesn't write?! Doodlewire is just that sort of book. It gets rid of our traditional ideas of doodling and gives us an entirely new way to doodle - with wire! Inside the Doodlewire package you'll find several lengths of soft, plastic-wrapped steel wire that is very flexible as well as strong (so it won't break after too many 'bends'). The book is filled with some really fun and unique images that you can bend the wire on top of to make some real fun creations with your doodlewires. In the words of the makers of the book: "It is kind of like tracing with a string of super-cooperative spaghetti." The possibilities with Doodlewire are endless...if you're tired of tracing the images in the book you can simply start creating your own wire doodles - your imagination is the limit!

Doodlewire would be a fabulous book to chase away some of the boredom that seems to creep in during the Christmas school break. It will provide your kids with hours of entertainment, and would also be a great item to pack along for a long trip, a long wait at the Doctor's office, etc. Pure and simple fun and creativity is what you'll find when you buy Doodlewire (or any of the Klutz activity books for that matter! )

Note: Doodlewire would be best suited for older children (not toddlers) - due to obvious safety reasons.

Snack Pack...Share a Smile!

Smiles are such a great gift - both to give and to receive! I know that there are many little things each day that bring smiles to our faces in our home...for example...last week we took our four year old son to the dentist. He was getting his teeth polished/cleaned and as soon as the lady took the brush out of his mouth he exclaimed "I Loooove junk food!" Hmmm...not something you'd normally tell a dentist. ;) It's things like this though that make all the hard days worth it...little moments that brighten up your day and bring smiles and laughter into it. Snack Pack believes in smiles...and this year they are running a Snack pack Share a Smile Campaign in hopes of raising $20,000 for Food Banks Canada before the holidays! There are many adults and children who go hungry...even right here in Canada so Snack Pack has decided to do something to bring some smiles to the faces of those less fortunate this year.

How does it work? How can you share a smile? All the details can be found on their Facebook page, but here's a taste of the fun that can be had while with Snack Pack in the next few weeks:

Every day for the next 10 weeks you’ll see a new idea for different ways to enjoy a smile with a Snack Pack. Accept the challenge...have some fun with it that day...and smile! Not only is it going to be fun, but you'll be helping out those who may need it most as well! In addition to all the fun, you'll also be entered to win great weekly prizes.

Get Involved!
~ Head over to Facebook and look up Snack Pack Canada.
~ "Like" their page
~ Share a Smile

If you take a few moments to do this a $1 donation will be made on your behalf to Food Banks Canada. PLUS You’ll earn a point towards one of the fun Smile badges!
Don't forget...the more often you smile, the more donations, ballots and badge points you’ll collect...it's a win-win situation for all of us! :)

All it takes is a few minutes...so let’s make sure we do our part and help them reach their $20,000 goal in time!

Interested in finding out more about Snack Pack products (including Juicy Gels and low-fat puddings) check their website out at http://www.snackpackcanada.ca/

Please don’t forget to include the following disclosure language: Disclosure - I am participating in the Snack Pack program by Mom Central on behalf of Conagra Foods Canada. I received a gift card as a thank you for my participation. The opinions on this blog are my own.

Wrap it up with Hop Frog Pond!

I went searching for some creative gift wrapping ideas for this Christmas season. I wanted something that was environmentally friendly, cute, fun, and simple. Not to mention, fairly inexpensive. I came across the perfect thing, and I wanted to share it with you!

Hop Frog Pond is a wonderful Etsy shop, based in North Vancouver, with a really fun way to wrap your gifts, not only during the holidays, but all year round. Furoshiki is a Japanese gift wrapping art that is extending into the rest of the world. It involves artfully wrapping and tying gorgeous fabrics around your gifts. This makes for a beautiful presentation, not to mention completely reusable wrapping fabric!

I was sent three different sizes of wraps to try out. The medium, small, and petite sizes all work their magic to create gorgeous gifts! I would imagine that the large would come in very handy as well, for larger gifts, but I am so excited to be able to use the three that I have!

The medium size is 70cm X 70cm, small is 50cm X 50cm, and petite is 30cm X 30cm. The small is perfect for wrapping books, petite is great for goody bags or stocking stuffers, and medium is perfect for an average sized gift. I was also sent some button bungees to make securing them even easier.

When you purchase any wrap, you will be sent some great instructions for how to use them. I also found some more ways to wrap with them when I did a simple Google search for Furoshiki.

Now as for the quality and workmanship, you may think that there isn't much to comment on. But, I was thoroughly impressed by the way the edges were finished, and the addition of the button bungee. The fabrics are also high quality cottons, and are sturdy with gorgeous vibrant colors.

Make a difference this season, and use reusable gift wrap. Support Canadian!! You can also find Hop Frog Pond at http://hopfrogpond.ca.

PURCHASE IT!
Hop Frog Pond is offering a very generous 25% discount for Glimpse readers! Just mention Glimpse Reviews in your notes to seller when you check out, and you will be refunded the 25%. Offer expires June 30, 2011.

Entertain with a Wallet ~ GIVEAWAY!

Keeping your kids busy and/or entertained when you are not at home can be tough at times. Especially when you'd like them to be a little more quiet, like at church or a wedding, etc. There are some tricks to the trade of having well-behaved and (mostly :) ) quiet children in situations like this though. I believe the most important part is us parents being able to teach and train them when, why and how to sit quietly or play quietly. But the second most important part is to bring along some good quality, - yet quiet - entertainment along for your children! A Quilt Dream has created a new idea called the Crayon Art Wallet. It is ingenious! This wallet is a nice size - perfect for a child to carry around or for mom to stuff in the diaper bag, and it carries all the necessary tools for creating artwork when you're not at home. Inside the crayon wallet you'll find a nice sized notepad and spots to hold crayons, markers or pencil crayons. My favorite feature though is that it folds up like a wallet, and velcro's shut so that your crayons won't be falling out and rolling away! It keeps everything nicely tucked away inside. The wallet comes in either a large or small size and is machine washable and dryer safe.

The Art Wallet is such a great invention...and not only is it perfect for the times when you need to keep your children quieter but it's also perfect for long trips in the car or at a restaurant...or maybe even at a Christmas gathering or party where there aren't going to be many other children. The options for where you can use a Crayon Art Wallet are endless.

A Quilt Dream
also sells a variety of other great handmade items. There are some really cute Crayon Tote Bags which are for carrying crayons and coloring books! Or take a peek at her gorgeous quilts and fun little tea cozies.

WIN IT!
One of our readers is going to win a Crayon Art Wallet of their own! In order to get one entry, head over to A Quilt Dream and let us know which of her items you would love to give or receive this Christmas season.

Best Kind of Boots ~ GIVEAWAY (2 WINNERS!)

Winter is here...there's no stopping the cold and the snow now! It's here to stay for at least a few months - let's hope it's only a few and not until May. ;) One thing that is hard to find is proper boots or footwear for babies...or younger children. The boots are usually too big - or if they do fit they are so heavy and clunky that it's no wonder they don't enjoy playing outside in the snow. Even our 2 year old has trouble walking in snow with her boots on...they're just too stiff and heavy for her little feet. Softsoul Baby Shoes has a perfect solution though - they HAND MAKE the most adorable leather or suede baby boots for our littlest ones. The boots come in sizes 0-6 mos, 6-12 mos or 12-18 mos, and they are ever so cute. Every single skin is individually picked to create the best color combination's and the best quality. You can create your own boots/colors etc. when ordering from Softsoul Baby Shoes as well, and they will be happy to make your creation for you. And if you're looking for something EVEN more special, they can even embroider your child's name on the heel of the boot!

Softsoul Baby Shoes knows what it takes to keep your baby's toes warm, and they will create quality boots (and shoes too for keeping toes warm indoors!) that are unique, personalized, and cozy.

WIN IT!
Softsoul Baby Shoes is giving away a pair of their leather/suede baby boots boots to TWO winners! The boots will go to the two readers who come up with the MOST ORIGINAL colors/design for the boots. So leave us your most original color choices for either BOY boots or GIRL boots. The boots can either be solid (one color) or a combination of colors (2 colors). One winner will be chosen for a solid boot and one for a combination boot.

CONTEST OPEN TO CANADA & USA! Contest ends on January 9, 2010. Please view our giveaway rules for more info.

Keep the Beat! ~ Mrs. Tiggy Winkles

With Christmas quickly approaching I know that us parents, grandparents, friends, etc. are busily searching for the 'perfect' gifts for those we love. I know that we really like to put thought into the gifts we give to each other, as well as the gifts we give our kids. I love it when a Christmas gift is more than "just a toy". You know, when it's something that is FUN yet also can TEACH our children a skill or lesson. Mrs. Tiggy Winkles is a fabulous online toy shop that is filled to the brim with toys like this. They've got SO much to choose from, and a great variety of items as well. There's things to please the babies, as well as a nice selection for older children - and you'll even find some gift ideas for teens and adults! Mrs. Tiggy Winkles sent us their Plan Toys Musical Band, which is a complete drum set for preschoolers. It is absolutely perfect for little drummers. The set come with two drums, a metal cymbal, guiro and of course - 2 drumsticks. The height of the set is ideal for young children and it's also very durable and strong (since we all know how "zealous" a young drummer can be! ;) ). What we love most about the Plan Toys Musical Band is that it is SO fun, yet it also helps to develop a sense of rhythm, aids in learning musical beats/counting/timing - and along with all that it can even develop some early math skills! We would definitely recommend this toy to anyone looking for a gift that is unique, fun and teaches a skill as well. I am certain that we will be having many years of drumming ahead of us with the Plan Toys Musical Band. :)

As I mentioned earlier, Mrs. Tiggy Winkles also sells LOADS of other great items including Lego, Games, Dolls & Dollhouses, Arts & Crafts items and so very much more! I'm warning you...the selection is so great that you may end up spending an hour or two browsing through everything. Let's be honest though, when it comes to finding the perfect gift this year, Mrs. Tiggy Winkles would be a wonderful place to start!

BUY IT!
Mrs. Tiggy Winkles is offering all our readers a 1o% discount off your ENTIRE purchase! Use the coupon code: glimpse to receive your discount. Expires Nov. 30, 2010. (not much longer left...hurry! ;) ).

Baby on Board - Inside!

You know those "Baby on Board" signs people put on their car, well walking around with a pregnant tummy is like wearing one of those signs all the time! :) Making the most of this baby time is "Baby on Board Apparel" aka BOBA.

BOBA was "born" when founder Ali McEwen wanted to buy her pregnant sister a cool t-shirt as a present, but couldn't find what she wanted. The "ultrasound" t-shirt she then designed has since become a great hit, and has led to the expansion of a great, basic maternity line!

I tried out 2 summer pieces - both were great for warm weather; comfortable knits, lightweight material, and great draping factor! I didn't want to go around dressed in a muumuu :) but I also didn't want to be only a tummy on legs! I really enjoyed wearing both items, and received many compliments on the style and colour.

BOBA sent me a Leah tunic in light green. In the current collection it's available in black, white and grey, as well as blue, green, yellow and purple in the sale section. It's a great layering piece (for cooler weather) as well as being super comfy on it's own, all through the summer. It fit great from when I received it in August (5-6 months pregnant) right up until the end, and because the tunic is flared nicely, I can even wear it now without looking as though I'm still wearing maternity clothing. It's long enough to cover the maternity panel of any pants or skirt, and also great to wear over leggings.

The other piece is the Ella dress in purple, also available in green, white, yellow, gray, blue and black, all in the sale section of the website. Also super-comfortable, it was just as easy to wear as any cozy t-shirt, but then more "dressed up." It's another great basic piece that you could easily accessorize for any occasion or just wear as is for a warm summer's day. Because I was pregnant on into the fall, a warm fall, but still fall, I did wear this like a tunic over a long skirt a few times, and you could also easily layer it over a long-sleeved top if you wanted/needed.

BOBA has recently unveiled their new website, along with their new collection! They've added some new pieces, and changed their direction a bit. The new clothing items are to be season-less, so you can buy the style you need/want regardless of the month, and they've switched to more monochromatic designs - blacks, whites and grays, the idea being that the pieces will work with your existing wardrobe.

BUY IT!

Visit BOBA's new website to check out their maternity fashions! Glimpse readers can take advantage of a great discount: GLIMPSE10 will give you 30% off your purchase!!! Offer valid until January 31, 2011, and open to Canadian and US residents.

**Disclaimer: The products mentioned above have been given free of charge from BOBA in exchange for being featured on Glimpse.  The opinions  expressed in this post are those of Glimpse and have not been influenced in any other way.  Please see the full Terms of use.

Green weaning!

I haven't started to think much about baby food yet at all, but I know it's coming, having been down that road twice before! I'm sure I'll do what I did with both boys: make my own baby food, freeze it in cubes and defrost as needed. I'm still convinced that homemade baby food is the best option for us. The question that arises though is what to freeze it in. With all the recent information coming out about plastic containers, it seems like we need another type of container - but what?

Luckily for me, and all you moms out there at the weaning stage, someone has already thought about this and figured out an acceptable solution! Wean Green's founder, Melissa Gunning, was unhappy freezing her daughters' baby food in plastic containers, and started searching for another option. Her research led her to glass containers, but of course, in order to withstand freezing and heating, it couldn't be just any glass. The result is "Wean Cubes:" safe, environmentally-friendly food storage. The glass used is well able to go from one extreme temperature to another, can be completely recycled and are dishwasher safe! The lids are available in four colours and are easily opened and closed using the locking clips. A silicone seal helps stop leakage and keeps the container airtight, maintaining the food's freshness.

We were sent a set of four Wean Cubes to try out. I couldn't try them for baby food, but I've used them for freezing other leftover foods with great success - these can be used for baby and beyond!! You know the recipe that only calls for half the can of tomato paste - what do you do with the other half? I froze it in a Wean Cube and used it later. Then there was the fudge recipe that used 3/4 of a can of sweetened condensed milk. Grrr. Again, perfect fit in a Wean Cube! They're easy to clean and I love how the lids just clip on! And the square shape is very clever - they stack great, and fit well side by side, taking up less room in the freezer than round containers. I'm really looking forward to using the Wean Cubes when making food for Annalies. The containers' measuring lines will come in really handy then, I'm sure. The containers hold 120 ml (4 oz) and have measuring lines at 30, 60, and 90 ml (1, 2 and 3 oz). Perfect for portioning out food for your growing child!

BUY IT!

Glimpse readers can use the code "glimpse" when purchasing online to receive 20% off their order. Offer valid until November 30, 2010. As well, Wean Green is offering free shipping for the months of November and December.

**Disclaimer: The products mentioned above have been given free of charge from Wean Green in exchange for being featured on Glimpse.  The opinions  expressed in this post are those of Glimpse and have not been influenced in any other way.  Please see the full Terms of use.

Quaker Journey to Wellness ~ CONTEST(S)!

Being healthy is SO important...I've often heard the saying "health is wealth" before...and it is so true! That said, we're not about to start going to a gym every day of the week or eat strictly vegetarian or anything too extreme. However, there really are some simple ways to improve the quality of your lifestyle in your home - even a simple thing like taking quality time for your family can make a big difference! I know that there are a few things that we are currently doing to better ourselves around here...like taking proper vitamins - and getting proper rest (or at least trying too! It's a little tough some nights with a 6 month old little girl who likes to "have my company" in the middle of the night. :) ) Another thing that I'd love to see us do more would be to spend more time together as an entire family...just relaxing and enjoying each other. It seems things always get so busy - I want to learn to slow down and enjoy the little things more.

Quaker is all for bettering ourselves and promoting wellness. In fact, they've even decided to put their beliefs in action. Quaker is sponsoring Lynn and asked her to document her family’s journey as they challenge themselves to make lifestyle improvements. She is busy blogging about these over at The Quaker Journey to Wellness blog. I've read through her blog some and there I've already discovered a few great tips, as well as some really tasty recipes! Besides all the information you can gain from reading through Lynn's Journey to wellness, you can also WIN WIN WIN! Every week you can win simply by having a presence on Lynn's blog - so vote on the weekly poll, or comment and share your own tip on a post! There are also some larger monthly prizes to be had...and believe me, some of these sound really great!

Want to Win?
Well, this is your official invitation to take a peek at Lynn's Quaker Journey to Wellness...it definitely won't hurt and is guaranteed to even help. :) And as I mentioned earlier - you might even walk away with a fabulous prize (in addition to all the great tips and ideas you'll find!) Feel free to take a look at the Quaker Journey to Wellness facebook page as well.

Disclosure - I am participating in the Quaker Journey to Wellness program by Mom Central on behalf of Pepsi Co. I received a gift card as a thank you for my participation. The opinions on this blog are my own.

Crib Safety

Hopefully all of us here are aware of baby crib safety issues. I know there have been a ton of recalls in the last year or two. It's kind of scary, though I think with some good common sense, it shouldn't be a problem.

Baby crib mattresses are one of the concerns. They need to fit snugly in the crib. I even read recently that it's not good to pass mattresses down because if the mattress was soiled at all, the urine could be off-gassing and may cause SIDS! I'm not sure if that is scientifically backed up at all, but it sure makes you think.

For some great resources on crib mattress safety, please check out the links provided in this post.

Help for Parents with a Strong-Willed Child ~ Giveaway!! (3 winners) 11/29

I have realized over the last 5 1/2 years of being a parent, that I do not have all the answers. I don't have all the tools. I don't know what to do sometimes (OK, a lot of the time) and I let bad behaviors slide. I wouldn't say that I have very strong-willed children, but they are certainly not perfect!

Some days can be utterly frustrating, because I feel like I've tried everything, yet nothing gets through to my kids. For this reason, I was excited to have the opportunity to review the revised and updated version of Parenting the Strong-Willed Child by Rex Forehand, Ph. D, and Nicholas Long, Ph. D.

I have to admit that it is a bit of a thick book, and that I don't have a lot of time to sit and read. So, it has taken me quite a while to get through it! But, I'm so glad that I had the chance to read it. I have been trying to put into practice the action plan in the book, and when I remember to do it properly, I see huge changes in my children!

This book is really a breath of fresh air for a struggling parent. If you have a child that struggles with ADHD, or just behavior problems in general, I highly recommend it. It's a real hands on approach to getting to know your child better. The time spent implementing the program will be time well spent! I really feel like it is a tool that every parent should have.

The book includes a 5 week program for parents to learn how to get through to their children, create a great relationship, and effectively discipline problem behaviors. The 5 steps seem very basic, and you may wonder if it's really going to work, but I believe that if you take the time to really intentionally parent your children, you may be surprised at how much you can enjoy them! When implemented properly, it's incredibly effective.

I must add, that this book is backed by research, and it's not just some new idea out there. This book has been around since 1996, and has made a huge impact on parents. The fact that the authors themselves are psychologists tells me that they have a real interest in making sure they have a quality program.

Parenting the Strong-Willed Child is available at the McGraw-Hill Ryerson Canada website.

WIN IT!
McGraw-Hill Ryerson Canada would love to send 3 lucky winners their own copy of Parenting the Strong-Willed Child! In order to enter, please leave us a comment sharing what you would hope to get out of this book.

Royal Goodness for your Kitty ~ GIVEAWAY! (2 WINNERS!)

Although we don't currently have any pets in our home, I will admit...I love cats & kittens! And if we lived out of town where animals were allowed to roam freely, we'd definitely have a few pets added to our family. But for now we settle for visiting the kitties at Grandma and Grandpa's place whenever we are out there. Royal Canin has created a brand new line of cat food that we tested out on Grandma and Grandpa's cat. It was a fun little test! Did you know that the way a cat chooses it's food preferences is not according to it's sense of taste? No, it chooses the food based on aroma, texture and the feeling of satisfaction that the food provides, and cats can be picky creatures as they often will each have their own preferences!! Most of the normal brands of cat food rely on flavor as their main attraction, however, 85%* of cats will find their preferred food among the SelectiveTM formulas instead of the flavored food. After some studies Royal Canin came up with three different types of cat food that are more likely to satisfy your kitty:

o Aromatic Attraction is preferred by cats who are attracted most to the aroma of their food

o Savour Sensation appeals to those cats that are attracted by the shape and feel of food in their mouth

o Protein Preference is for cats that enjoy a feeling of satisfaction after they've eaten

We received a Discovery Pack with a sample of each of these foods to help us discover which one our cat would prefer. After setting out the three different types of food in front of kitty for three days in a row, the Aromatic Attraction was the winner - hands down! Kitty did eat the other foods when given to her one at a time, so she's obviously not TOO picky, though if a choice was given the food with the best aroma was the winner.

Royal Canin's SelectiveTM line
for cats is now available in various pet stores across Canada. (some include Pet Valu, Petcetera, Mondou, etc.) Royal Canin has been a leading brand of cat and dog health nutrition worldwide for more than 40 years...so they know what they're talking about when it comes to feeding our pets! They have a great "mission" that I'd like to share with you as well:

"The manufacturing mission of Royal Canin Canada is three-fold: to ensure 100% product safety, to exceed the product quality expectations of Canadian cat and dog owners, and to provide the most precise nutrition available in the Canadian pet food market."

You can be sure that your cats will be healthy, happy and well-fed with Royal Canin's SelectiveTM line.

WIN IT!
Royal Canin is giving TWO WINNERS a Discovery Pack as well as a coupon for a FREE LARGE bag of your cats favorite food! In order to get one entry, give us a guess as to which of the three foods you think your kitty would enjoy the most.

Scholastic Monday - Mad About Munsch!

I don't know if I've ever met a kid that didn't love Robert Munsch books! They are just so fun...and colorful, AND animated. If that's not enough, the stories are exaggerated, and full of wildly imaginative ideas - perfect for kids! I know that we definitely love reading books by Robert Munsch and Michael Martchenko in our home, so we were thrilled when Scholastic Canada included a big book filled with five fabulous stories (plus 1 bonus one too!) by Robert Munsch. Mad About Munsch includes the following stories:

Smelly Socks
More Pies!
Zoom!
Boo!
The Sandcastle Contest
BONUS STORY - Braids, with illustrations by real kids!

We loved reading all of them - and our kids often spend a long time sitting on the floor, paging through their newest collection of Munsch stories! Even just looking at the pictures is fun...they're full of fun little details and are painted with vivid colors! After each of the stories in Mad About Munsch, there is a one page description about how each of the books was written and about the children who inspired the writing of that particular story! I really enjoyed reading the history behind these books and I know that our kids will enjoy hearing about it as well as they grow older.

Mad About Munsch
would be a fabulous book to put under the Christmas tree this year! With six different books in one, it really is more than "just one book", and is definitely not a boring book either. :) From my experience, kids love Robert Munsch stories, and the collection of books in Mad About Munsch is no exception!

Learn to use cutlery - GIVEAWAY!

Have you ever noticed how difficult it is for a toddler to get a spoon or a fork in his or her mouth? Especially at the beginning - they're always trying to get it in at the wrong angle, and everything tips out. Frustrating for everyone involved...
"Necessity is the mother of invention" is certainly the case here. A father, watching his children try to learn to eat, decided to create a utensil that would help them learn to eat easily - the Learn 'n Turn! It's received a PTPA award and I can definitely see why.  Attached on the end of the handle is either a spoon or fork, and the attachment can be rotated to suit your child's preferred position! So, this spoon or fork is adaptable to right- and left-handed children, and available in 4 fun colours. Also nice to know is that the utensil is BPA and lead-free!

Daniel received a Learn 'n Turn utensil to try and it works really well! The spoon or fork can be interchanged, and can be turned to several different angles on both sides of the handle. Especially helpful are the grips on the tines of the fork - we have difficulty making things stick to the fork otherwise, and this way the food stays on all the way into Daniel's mouth!

Check out the website for some great videos showing kids using the Learn 'n Turn and how great it works.

This great invention is available online through Learn and Turn, and also at many retail and online outlets. Check out the website for more information on where to find the Learn 'n Turn utensil.

WIN IT!!

One lucky Glimpse reader will win a Learn 'n Turn utensil! To enter, please leave a comment on who you know would benefit from the utensil and why.

Taking Care of Our World ~ GIVEAWAY (10 WINNERS!!)

I love buying bulk! It's one of my favorite ways to shop because I can get the amount of food I want and it's often cheaper as well! But there is one thing that I don't really like about buying bulk...and that's those thin plastic bags...you know the ones that you have to double bag because otherwise they might rip...and even then one little snag at the cashier and you've got a hole in your bag! Not only that, but plastic bags just aren't good for us or environment at all. Carebags recently came to our rescue and has given us a MUCH better option than those plastic bags. We tested and tried their Got it! reusable drawstring bags. You can get the Got it! bags in a set of three, as a single bag, or in a super cute Got it! Stuff Sack. I love the little stuff sack because it keeps all the bags together and is nice and compact so it easily will fit into your purse (or diaper bag :) )...or even your pocket! Each stuff sack comes with 3 Got it! reusable bags in it. We found that this is perfect for our family as we often get about 1-4 different items from the bulk or produce section each time we shop. Each bag is 9 x 11 inches and can hold up to 8 pounds!! That's a good amount, and I found that the bags also stretch as you fill them up, so you can fit more in them than it first looks like you can.

There are some other really nice benefits to using Carebags reusable bags. Such as, not only can you BUY the product in the bag, but you can also wash and store it in these reusable bags! Did you know that if you wash your produce right in the bag the moisture left in the mesh bag helps to keep your food fresh. OR if they're lying around just waiting to be used, why not pack a lunch in a bag or use it for storing a bunch of your children's smaller toys in...or even pack toys in it for a long drive in the van!

If you're looking for some practical, useful, affordable and cute stocking stuffers I would definitely recommend the Got it! reusable bags! I know I would love to find some more of these in my stocking this year. :)

WIN IT!
Carebags is giving away some FREE samples of their fabulous reusable bags to TEN WINNERS! In order to get one entry into the draw, leave us a negative impact plastic bag fact. Tell us a fact about the downfalls of disposable plastic bags. (Ex: Fewer than 2 percent of all plastic bags are recycled!)

CONTEST OPEN WORLDWIDE! Contest ends on November 25, 2010. Please view our giveaway rules for more info.

All you need to do is head over to The Bicycle Factory, enter a UPC code from any Cadbury product,
including Caramilk*, Dairy Milk*¸ Maynards*, Dentyne*, Stride*, Trident* and Halls*.
Then, watch as your UPC code turns into a bicycle part for a child in Ghana, Africa! This is super cool. It takes 100 UPC codes to make one bicycle, so make sure to enter as many as you can.

Hopefully, with all of our help, Cadbury will be able to send 5000 bicycles to Ghana, Africa!

In Africa, a bicycle can change a person’s life and a community’s future. A bicycle can mean access to essential services such as clean water, medical care and education. It’s an invaluable vehicle that opens up a world of possibilities.

For the second year, The Bicycle Factory™ is in operation and is close to its goal of virtually building 5,000 bicycles for school children in Africa. There are only 1,000 bicycles to go, and we need your help!

The Bicycle Factory™ is open 24 hours a day at www.thebicyclefactory.ca

Keep Cozy With Chic to Cheek

Now that the cooler fall weather (and as of today - MORE SNOW!) has arrived we are dressing ourselves up in more cozy clothing...sweaters, slippers, and when we go outside you'll see us all in toques, parkas and mitts! Tate outgrew his toque from last year and was toque-less, so he was thrilled when Chic to Cheek Boutique crocheted him a gorgeous new toque-style hat with earflaps. Chic to Cheek sent us their Hunter Crocheted Earflap Hat. It is perfect for colder weather since it sits low across the back of his neck and nicely covers up the rest of his head and ears as well. It has strings to tie under the chin if you'd like, or you just let them dangle for a different look (Tate prefers to have them dangle :) ). This hat is crocheted with 100% cotton yarn and can be knitted in the color(s) of your choice! Chic to Cheek has a great variety of colors to choose from for both boys and girls.

Besides the Hunter hat you'll find a bunch of other REALLY REALLY adorable hats at Chic to Cheek! There's a variety of different styles - some with cute flowers for the girls, and some more simple yet stylish designs as well. Chic to Cheek is happy to custom make these hats for you and your little ones! They come in a good selection of sizes and as I mentioned before...there's lots of colors to choose from when creating your hat as well!

Besides these cute crocheted hats, Chic to Cheek offers a good selection of other products for parents and children too. You'll find baby slings, cloth diapers, travel gear and more. There are a lot of great gift options as well if you're looking for something unique and fun to give away this Christmas!

BUY IT!
Chic to Cheek Boutique is offering FREE shipping for any hat in her shop. Applies to Canada or US orders. Expires December 5th (which is also the deadline for any Christmas orders). Peatoes - Kids Fashion! GIVEAWAY!

Peatoes is an online shop for stylish babies, tots and moms! Created to help busy parents shop for their children, Peatoes carries items for many aspects of your child's life!
"All products are carefully chosen by busy parents who want simplicity, functionality, good quality and style; parents who are conscious of the environment and its impact on the well-being of their child. That is why most of the products on this site are ecologically and environmentally friendly."
When I first looked at Peatoes, I was shopping for clothing for our oldest son. Since the cooler fall weather hit, he was in need of some long-sleeved t-shirts that were warm enough but not too warm.  Peatoes carries a couple of cool brands of children's clothing: "Imps & Elfs" and "Tumble N Dry."  Julie from Peatoes kindly send a shirt for Jonathan to try out as well as a pair of jeans for Daniel, so we've been able to to experience both brands. Ironically, both are Dutch brands, which is pretty cool seeing as our family is half Dutch!

Jonathan received a shirt from the "Tumble N Dry" line.  He really likes the shirt and it's very comfy to wear. It has a slim fit, which is perfect for him, but you'd want to keep this in mind if your child is husky. We are very pleased with how it's worn and washed - the knit material is still soft like new and we haven't noticed any shrinkage at all. The shirt is cool but casual - perfect for school but also for other outings.

Daniel received a pair of jeans from the "Imps & Elfs" line. These are probably the nicest jeans he owns. The denim is super soft, and has stayed that way through several washings.  Daniel loves pockets, and these jeans meet his expectations! :) The waistband has a well-sewn adjustable elastic, so the jeans fit him perfectly now, and will continue to fit for a while. As well, they are styled with a roll-up hem, which means he'll get plenty of wear out of them by adjusting the depth of the roll.  They certainly have cool factor: faded patches just like big kids and adults jeans, decorative stitching and a back flap snap pocket.

There are many more great clothing pieces available at Peatoes.  Peatoes also carries toys, cool accessories and more...so be sure to check them out when you're putting together your Christmas gift list!

WIN IT!

Peatoes will give one of our readers a $50 gift certificate towards a purchase of either "Tumble N Dry" or "Imps & Elfs" clothing!! To enter, please visit Peatoes and comment on a favourite item.

Doing Things Naturally ~ GIVEAWAY!

One thing that continues to boggle my mind is how many of the items that we use contain harmful chemicals and ingredients! And although we try to avoid these harmful chemicals and ingredients as much as we can, it is virtually impossible to avoid it ALL. One thing that I thought was harmless was Vaseline. But did you know that even this contains ingredients that are not good for our bodies...especially for the tiny babies on whom we often use Vaseline. Diapers Naturally brought to my attention a fabulous product that's created by Nature's Essential Garden...it is Organic Multi-Purpose Jelly, and basically it's a wonderful alternative to Vaseline. It has a multitude of purposes too. Of course it's great for diaper rashes, or for protection from diaper rashes...but it can also be used for dry skin, lip balm, removing make-up, circumcision, etc. The best aspect of the organic multi-purpose jelly is that instead of containing harmful ingredients such as petroleum, paraffin, synthetics and parabens, it is filled with healing and beneficial ingredients including plenty of healthy fatty acids and vitamin E. The jelly is also hypo-allergenic, 100% vegetarian and unscented - perfect for using with your entire family!

Diapers Naturally carries a great selection of other natural products and accessories as well. There's plenty of cloth diapering accessories and items, as well as a whole line of the Nature's Essential Garden products. There's even a few goodies for breastfeeding moms. If you live in or nearby Grande Prairie, AB there are even more options for you, because Diapers Naturally runs a cloth diaper delivery service just for you! Yep, that means you get all the benefits of cloth diapers without having to do any of the "dirty" work! :) Head over and take a look at all that Diapers Naturally has to offer.

WIN IT!
Diapers Naturally would like to give one of our readers a $25 Gift Certificate to their website. In order to get ONE entry, head over to Diapers Naturally and let us know which of their products you'd like to try the most.
