Just for Little Monkey's ~ GIVEAWAY!
There's a lot of options out there in the world of cloth diapering these days! So many, that it's hard to know sometimes which cloth diapers are the best, most durable, most versatile, most absorbent and most worth your time and money. Little Monkey Store recently sent us a Nifty Nappy fitted hemp/bamboo cloth diaper. I'd heard good things about this diaper in the past, so I was thrilled to be able to try one with my own kids! There are so many things that we love about this diaper. First of all, the hemp/bamboo material is incredible soft...and it really feels luxurious! The diaper is VERY absorbent as well. We've had no leaks (not even at night or naps) with our Nifty Nappy. This cloth diaper is also one size fits all, which allows me to use it with either Emily or Jenna...and it is surprisingly trim for a one size fits all diaper! We also love the great selection of fun and unique designs that is available. You'll find all sorts of fun prints that you can choose from for your cloth diapers - something to suit every mood and day of the week. ;) And lastly? I love that the Nifty Nappy is made by a WAHM...moms that need to work but can figure out a way to do it from home rank high in my books! :) Plus...I've said it before, and I'll say it again - products that are made at home are much higher quality and are just all around better than any of the things you can buy at popular, big name stores! The Nifty Nappy does require a diaper cover, and Little Monkey Store sent us a Woolie Wrap to use with it. Put the Nifty Nappy and the Woolie Wrap together and your cloth diaper will be bullet-proof! Nothing gets through those two. It is great for a heavy wetter at night. The woolie wrap is a snap-on wool diaper cover that fits a wide range of babies. I can use it with either Jenna or Emily at this point, and it's so much nicer than plastic pants which have no breath-ability. The woolie wrap is soft, comfy and keeps things ventilated. ;) One thing that I love about the woolie wrap is that the outer layer is made from recycled sweaters from the thrift store! How fun is that?! I love thrift stores, and what a neat idea to recycle sweaters into a wool cloth diaper cover.
Little Monkey Store has a great selection of all sorts of other cloth diapers and cloth diapering accessories too! They've got a LOT of great products to offer to cloth diapering mamas...or to moms who are ready to jump into the fabulous world of cloth diapers! :)
WIN IT!
Little Monkey Store is giving away one Nifty Nappy fitted diaper and one woolie wrap to a lucky reader! In order to get one entry, head over to Little Monkey Store and let us know which Nifty Nappy design you'd choose if you won (scroll down on the Nifty Nappy page to view designs).

Hairy Kids - GIVEAWAY!!
Jonathan has reached the age where he likes to wear hair gel! All these older kids with spiky "porcupine" hair have inspired him, I guess! He's been using Richard's "manly gel" until just recently, which worked well of course for getting his hair sticking straight up, but was hard to wash out of his kid hair, and made his hair smell very strong and, well, manly! :) Not really appropriate for a 4-year old! Plus, with so many allergies and scent-sensitivities in our extended family, he couldn't use it all the time, much to his disappointment. So, I started looking for something different, a gel that would keep his hair stiff, but be made from natural, non-irritating ingredients. I really lucked out when I found Hairy Kids!
Hairy Kids makes shampoo, conditioner, body wash/bubble bath and hair gel, in 3 different scents, as well as an unscented product line anyone can use. All their products are made using certified highest quality ingredients and all natural preservatives. As well, the products are all:
Hairy Kids sent Jonathan a bottle of hair gel in "lemonade" scent. He is so pleased to have his own gel at last, and I'm pleased with how it works on his hair. His "porcupine" prickles stick up nicely for as long as he (and I) want, but not forever, as it relaxes over time. It leaves no white sticky residue in his hair, and washes out very easily. The lemon smell is obvious but not overpowering and disappears quickly, which is helpful in our scent-sitive family.
As well, Jonathan and Daniel have been trying out a sample bottle of all (yes ALL!) of the other products in ALL of the scent variations! Everything we've tried has worked really well. Something I've noticed with natural hygiene products, especially bubble bath, is that there aren't as many bubbles as "synthetic" bubble bath. This bubble bath makes enough bubbles to keep the kids happy, but still leaves the water clear enough for washing hair and bodies at the end of the bath.
You can buy Hairy Kids products online directly from them, at a few online retailers, or at some retailers throughout Canada. Check the store finder for a retailer near you.
WIN IT!!
Hairy Kids has offered to give one of our readers a collection of samples (12 bottles in all) of their products. To enter, please visit Hairy Kids and comment on your favourite feature of their products, or which product you'd like to try the most.
EXTRA ENTRIES - Please leave an additional comment for each extra entry.

Comfort for the Big and Little
With a new baby in our home we are now back into full-force cloth diapering mode...and we're loving it! Honestly...there's something relaxing about folding cloth diapers, and it's great to know that Jenna and Emily are wearing the most comfortable, environmentally friendly and safe diapers possible. Chic to Cheek sent us two organic soy and hemp fitted diapers to try out with Jenna and Emily. These two diapers have quickly become two of our favorites! One of my favorite features of the diaper is that it is stretchy! So many cloth diapers have no stretch whatsoever...they still work great, but I'm positive that when you're an active toddler or a squirmy newborn it must be extra nice to have a little stretch in your diaper! These cloth diapers are perfect for chubby or skinny children since there is a lot of crossover room with the snaps. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it fit Jenna right from the start! And it is a fabulous diaper for toddlers too! Emily uses her diaper at naps or night and with 5 layers of natural fibers, it definitely holds everything in very well! There are so many great features of the organic soy and hemp fitted diaper. They even have an extra row of snaps to shorten the rise and fit on a smaller baby, yet they've cleverly hidden these snaps under a piece of soft fabric so that they are not touching your babies tender skin. And to wrap it all, the diapers are simple, but cute too - notice the little ruffle around the legs?! :)
If you're not in the cloth diapering stage right now, Chic to Cheek has a lot of other fabulous products to offer you as well. Just to whet your appetite, take a peek at their UV Sunshades (perfect for summer!) or their adorable crocheted hats and accessories! BUY IT!
Chic to Cheek is offering all our readers FREE shipping for all Sprout and Chickadee products (organic diapers, sustainable slings and organic nursing pads) for anywhere in North America. Simply email the code glimpse to Chic to Cheek and they will adjust your invoice.

Organic Baby ~ GIVEAWAY (Value - $100!)
Newborns and chidren often have such sensitive skin! I know that all my kids have had sensitive skin as babies...and any harsh detergents or bleaches used on their clothes or diapers caused a rash before I could count to 10 (well...almost! ;) ) The bottom line is that little ones DO have very tender and sensitive skin, and well, I for one want to do everything I can to make sure they are rash free and are clothed with outfits that won't irritate their skin. BabysOrganic.com is a perfect place to find this type of clothing...clothes that are made from organic fabrics and that are designed to be comfy, cozy and stylish - all while being eco-friendly and made from the most natural of fabrics! Jenna received an adorable one-piece lap neck jumpsuit to welcome her into our world. :) It is incredible soft due to the organic interlock cotton it's made from. It has a snap bottom for easy diaper changes, and just looks so comfortable that we just have to dress her in it as often as possible! It make a great set of pj's for her to sleep in...and well, she still spends a lot of her days in pj's so this jumpsuit is perfect for daytime use too! BabysOrganic.com offers a LOT more than just clothing as well! They've got all sorts of fabulous and reasonably prices organic products for you, your little ones, or even for gifts. I'd be lost without mine! :) ), wooden toys, a great selection of fabulous skincare products, and lots more! You can be sure that BabysOrganic.com will provide you with the best, and most natural products possible. None of their items contain ANY harmful chemicals, dyes or toxic paints. In addition to that, most, if not all of their products have won awards from iParenting Media, Natural Parenting Center, and Baby Talk Editors Choice (just to name a few), and/or have been seen in magazines such as Parents Magazine, Pregnancy & Newborn and more. It is obvious that BabysOrganic.com has done the job well and is ready to provide you with the best products they've found!

Peekaboo in a Peekaru!
We love babywearing at our house!! It is one of my favorite things to do...and it really eliminates a lot of guilt for me because when I wear my babies/kids they are still close to me and can watch or be involved in what I'm doing...and I can still get my work done with 2 free hands! Not only do I love to wear my kids at home, but it is equally as handy when you're out and about. There's only one issue that I've come across...and that is keeping my little ones warm and cozy on the colder days - especially when my jacket won't fit around the two of us. This is the main reason that I've been eyeing the Peekaru Original Vest. Babe on U Boutique is a fabulous online store that focuses on babywearing and green living and they sent us a Peekaru Vest to try out. It has become my favorite babywearing accessory!! The Peekaru Vest is a simple fleece vest that will fit easily over ANY carrier. It is ideal for newborns and toddlers alike. You can be sure that it will be getting many years of use in our home yet! :) It is so soft and snuggly and is perfect for keeping both mom and baby warm. I also was very impressed with how easy it was to put on and take off. It only takes a minute to put the Peekaru on and you can do it by yourself without an extra set of hands and without any funny bending or twisting to see if you've got it on properly. The Peekaru Vest comes in a variety of colors and sizes too, so there's sure to be one to suit you.
Babe on U Boutique also has a selection of some really great baby carriers, as well as products for the nursing mama, and you'll even find the Peekaru Ozone (which would be fantastic for the hot, sunny summer months ahead!) There's a lot more as well, so be sure to head over and take a peek at what babe on U Boutique has to offer!
BUY IT!
babe on U Boutique is giving all our readers a 15% discount off the purchase of a Peekaru Vest! Use the code: peekaru15 in the notes section when checking out with paypal and they will refund you the 15% off once the order has been processed. OR if you'd rather skip this step, just contact baby on U Boutique and she'll send you an invoice with the 15% discount taken off. If there is a particular color or size of Peekaru that you'd like, but it's not in stock, just let babe on U Boutique know and she'll order it for you and still honor the discount. Expires June 30, 2010.

Fabulous Sleep - Kid'Sleep! GIVEAWAY!!
Fab Baby Gear is a great online shopping stop for baby-related purchases. They have a great selection of many unique and high-quality items. They carry everything from furniture to baby slings, from strollers and car seats to diaper bags, feeding accessories and toys and much more! Popular well-known brands as well as brands not so well-known but high on baby style are represented. Fab Baby Gear prides itself on great customer service, and I must say I've had great communication with them the whole time. If you live in the Ottawa area, you should also check out one of their 2 locations – I'm sure the shopkeepers will be friendly and helpful to deal with.
Fab Baby Gear sent Jonathan a Kid'Sleep Globetrotter alarm clock (travel version). It's kind of ironic really, because instead of using it to wake him up, we're using it to help him know when it's time to get up and when it's too early! :) This device really is multifunctional. On the night time setting, the display of the sleeping sheep lights up. The light is also enough for a night light. Once it's an acceptable time to wake up, the awake sheep is lit up. Time can be set in the back, although we found the directions a little difficult to follow at first. There is also the possibility of setting an alarm, so the Kid'Sleep will make a sound at the time to get up, but we've not needed that stage yet – it will likely come in handy in the fall once Jonathan starts school. The Kid'Sleep Globetrotter folds flat for travelling and folds open to create it's own sturdy stand on a table or shelf near the bed. Jonathan is really pleased with the extra little bit of responsibility and “in charge” feeling the alarm clock gives him, and we've been pleased with the results as well! :)
The Kid'Sleep is also available in Classic (at right)
WIN IT!!
Fab Baby Gear has generously offered to give away an Argington Babylon high chair to one lucky reader! Please visit Fab Baby Gear and comment below on your favourite item.
EXTRA ENTRIES - Please leave an additional comment for each extra entry.

County Cloth for Mama ~ GIVEAWAY! (2 WINNERS!)
There is one thing that a lot of ladies just don't feel like trying...and that is cloth pads. I was one of those girls who never even gave a 2nd thought about using cloth pads - after all - that could be pretty icky...right?! BUT...I have been converted. ;) And no matter how icky you may think they may be...they are SOOO much less icky than disposables, and so much more comfortable too. The odor is less, they are not sticky and uncomfortable, they save you tons of $$$$, and I've had far less leaks since switching to cloth. All around, they are fabulous - and they're the only thing I use now! Most of you know that 2 weeks ago I gave birth to another precious little girl. :) With both of my other kids I was still using disposable pads and used those for the postpartum period...however, this time around I was really excited to try cloth. County Cloth Creations is a wonderful little Etsy shop which creates and hand makes beautiful and luxurious pads that really do the trick! They sent me a long and incredibly soft minky-topped cloth pad to use during the postpartum time, and I have to say - it has been wonderful. I found it to be very comforting and comfortable, and would recommend it to anyone. It would be perfect for a normal menstrual period as well, and you can be sure that it will definitely be getting a lot more use in the years to come! County Cloth Creations also sent a very cute Mini Wetbag! This has been SO very handy - it's absolutely perfect for keeping in the diaper bag and for using during a morning out of the house. It has two pockets in side as well...so you can store both a clean and dirty cloth pad without any worries.
County Cloth Creations has a great selection of cloth pads...of all shapes, sizes and colors! :) Why not head over and see what she has to offer - and give them a try too! I promise you - you won't regret it!
WIN IT!
County Cloth Creations is giving away a 10" flannel topped pad to TWO winners! In order to get one entry, head over to County Cloth and let us know which cloth pad you'd like to try.

For your Little Tree Hugger - GIVEAWAY!!
I just love it when I find a shop that sells items they actually have tried out themselves – and Little Tree Hugger is one of those! An online shop shipping throughout Canada and the USA, with local service in the Fredericton, NB and Beaumont (S. Edmonton) AB areas, Little Tree Hugger offers various cloth diapers and diapering accessories as well as eco goods for your baby. Along with a great selection of products, Little Tree Hugger's website also provides a great deal of information on using and caring for cloth diapers.
Diapers offered come from such companies as: BumGenius, AMP, Happy Heiny's, Thirsties, Baby Kanga and much more! The website is organized in such a way that you can easily find the style of diaper you're looking for, and the accessories are clearly categorized as well.
Among the eco-friendly baby goods are toys (wooden, cloth and rubber), clothing (leg warmers) and feeding and nursing gear.
Daniel has been walking around (occasionally) and sleeping (every nap and night) with “Abbit” - a Peppa bonding doll called Tino in the shape of a rabbit. What attracted me to the Peppa bonding dolls was that they're made of all natural materials – cotton terry cloth on the outside and stuffed with sheep's wool. They're called “bonding dolls” because the wool absorbs scents, ie the comforting scent of home or a parent. They are made for a European company and handmade in India under fair trade practices. “Abbit” isn't Daniel's favourite cloth toy, simply because “Bear” got there first, but he does check to make sure “Abbit” is there in the crib when he's going to bed. The Tino dolls are available in 9 different colours and are 12” long, but are very light weight – it would be perfect for a baby to hold as well. The long ears are great to chew on (don't ask me, ask Daniel!) as are the knobby “paws” for teething. A big plus is that wool stuffing is anti-bacterial, so Tino should keep smelling like what he should smell like and not like a stinky, always wet, chewed on cloth (like Bear). Daniel's "Abbit" is the light blue (teal) one, and it's very cuddly and soft!
WIN IT!
Little Tree Hugger is generously offering one lucky reader a $20 gift certificate! Read carefully for how to enter.
- Visit the Little Tree Hugger website, and choose a favourite item, then come back here and leave a comment stating which item is your favourite, and why it caught your eye.

More Than Cloth Diapers ~ Giveaway!
More Than Cloth Diapers is a wonderful Canadian diaper shop that offers a bunch of different kinds of Wipe Solution. If you're indecisive like me, they have a great sampler pack that allows you to try all of their different Wipe Solutions for just $2.50. I was sent one to try out, and I enjoyed getting to try the different scents and products, and have come to my own favorite. I really like the Washy Wafers, because they dissolved super easy in hot water. Some of the others took a bit longer, and I don't always have time to shake the bottle for a few minutes. I also really like the Booty Cubes Healing Stick. It's very soothing and gentle. There are many other awesome products available at More Than Cloth Diapers, including amber jewelry (love this!), natural skin care items, and of course, cloth diapers! Make sure to check them out and try out the Wipes Solution Sampler as well.
WIN IT!
More Than Cloth Diapers would like to offer a Wipes Solution Sampler Pack to 2 lucky winners! In order to enter, please check out More Than Cloth Diapers, and let us know what other products catch your eye.

emk clothing - GIVEAWAY!
As we go out and about with our 2 kids, it seems like we need to take along a variety of objects: drinks, books, a few small toys, etc etc! We needed a bag that was easy to get into, but also kept the contents in. After searching for a while for the right bag for us, I finally found it! Imagine my surprise when I found out the bag was made by a former schoolmate of mine! It's a small world!
emk clothing is based in Winnipeg. Erin makes a variety of totes, purses and bags in a beautiful selection of fabrics, as well as ring slings and pouch slings. The bags are practical yet stylish and have a lot of great features such as zippered pockets, button closures, velcro and adjustable straps. The fabrics are chosen to be durable and for their nature-inspired prints and textures.
We received the large Sophie tote (see page 3 of the catalogue). It's exactly the right tote bag for us. It holds all that we need for a day out. The Sophie tote closes with a fashionable button at the top, yet is easy to open up or dig around in it for whatever we need. Inside is a zippered pocket – great for keeping track of the smaller items that tend to get lost in a bag or fall out. The handles are long enough to carry the bag over the shoulder comfortably, but also great for carrying the bag in your hand. We chose the green orchid print – in 2 months of using the bag it still looks clean and brand new and the canvas bottom has proved to be very durable.
Check out emk clothing's line of handbags, bags and accessories – you'll be impressed!
WIN IT!!
emk clothing is giving one of our readers a Sophie tote in their choice of fabric! To enter, please visit emk clothing's website and comment on a product that caught your attention.

A Tall Giraffe – Mother's Day Giveaway!!
It seems like a mother's work is never finished - or at least that's the feeling I have! :) I am impressed and amazed that Moms also have the time to operate their own business as well. Have you noticed how many Mompreneurs there are lately? A Tall Giraffe is Mom Andrea's small business dedicated to offering products that are of excellent quality, eco-friendly, & as many Canadian-made as possible. This online shop carries cloth diapers and accessories as well as natural products for baby and Mom.
One of the newest product lines A Tall Giraffe offers is from Sweet Leaf Bath Products. Andrea let me try a soap (Cosmo flavour) and a lip balm. She carries the soaps in a variety of “flavours” as well as foot butter (with spa socks), and bath soaks right now. Everything from Sweet Leaf is made carefully using pure essential oils, botanicals and fair trade ingredients.
Within a week of switching to using this wonderful, natural soap handcrafted in small batches, I noticed a huge difference in my hands. I've always struggled with dry skin, especially on my hands, and during the winter it doesn't seem to matter which handcream I use or how much, nothing much has made a difference. Until the Sweet Leaf natural soap. My hands were softer, and the scaly “reptile” look between my thumbs and index fingers had started to heal. We haven't used a bar soap for quite a while, and so it took me a while to think of using a soap dish, and I would recommend using one to make your soap last longer.
The Sweet Leaf Lip balm is a flavoured with Peppermint. I'm one of those weird people who isn't a great fan of peppermint, but luckily this is quite mild. The lip balm goes on nice and smooth, and keeps the lips feeling moist for quite a long time. One thing I especially like about it is the short list of recognizable ingredients. I'm not afraid to use this on my kids chapped lips because I know what everything is!
If you live in Southern Manitoba, you'll be interested to know that A Tall Giraffe is planning an Open House on Saturday, May 15th, 2010. More information is available on the homepage.
A Tall Giraffe's NEW website is now live!
WIN IT!!
To help you celebrate Mother's Day, A Tall Giraffe is offering one lucky reader the choice of 2 soap "flavours" and a lip balm! :) Please visit A Tall Giraffe and comment on another product you'd be interested in trying.

A Diva for Mother's Day! ~ GIVEAWAY!!
There's lots of talk lately about generating less landfill waste. Reusable bags, cloth diapers, recycling, upcycling...But have you ever stopped to think about the disposable waste that is generated by women each month as they go through menstruation? It's incredible! According to some sources, “an estimated 12 billion sanitary pads and 7 billion tampons are dumped into the North American environment each year.” Amazing!
One reusable option I recently heard about is The DivaCup! It's a menstrual cup made from healthcare-grade silicone and can be used many times (it's recommended to replace it once yearly as it is a personal hygiene item).
The idea of a menstrual cup is not a new one – it was first thought of in the 1930's. For many reasons, the idea didn't continue; in recent history Diva International, a mother and daughter company as relaunched the concept with many significant improvements. The redesigned DivaCup is proving to be a great success and appreciated by the many women who've tried it.
The DivaCup is sanitary and easy to clean – it comes with detailed instructions for use and care. As well, the website contains a great deal of information – it's worth a visit to find out more about this great alternative to more commonly used menstrual products. It's great for active lifestyles and practical when travelling or out and about. Women don't have to carry extra supplies “just in case” - using The DivaCup involves simply emptying and washing at least twice every 24 hours. As well as being environmentally friendly, it's also an economical choice.
The DivaCup is approved for market by Health Canada and the US FDA. As well, the company holds ISO 13485:2003 manufacturing certification.
The DivaCup is available at many locations – check the store finder on the website to find a retailer near you.
WIN IT!!
One lucky reader will win a DivaCup! Visit The DivaCup website and comment on something you learned.
EXTRA ENTRIES - Please leave an additional comment for each extra entry.

PerryWinkles Princess ~ GIVEAWAY!
There's just something about little girls that makes you want to dress them up. Dresses, skirts, sparkles, clips...and the list could go on. :) I'm not huge into things like big amounts of frills and lace, but I sure do love a sweet little dress! Emily recently received a precious smocked dress from PerryWinkles Kids. It's perfect for summer and is 100% adorable! She received the Sofia Short Sleeves Hand-Smocked Dress and it is beautiful. It is simple with just the right amount of embroidery and design on it. The little rose-bud flowers that are embroidered onto the straps, as well as into the smocked portion of the front of the dress are so delicate...perfect for little girls! One of my favorite parts about the dress Emily received (as well as ALL the other smocked dresses from PerryWinkles Kids) is that they are machine washable! They're made from natural fibers such as pima cotton, which is VERY soft and comfortable. This means that each dress is perfect not only for special occasions, but also for the every day fun of pretending to be a princess. :) The fact that it is SO easy to clean and take care of makes this dress extra special. It means that Emily can get a good amount of use out of it without me having to worry about every little stain. PerryWinkles Kids has a GREAT selection of the most adorable hand-smocked dresses you'll ever find! Be sure to check out their NEW Spring and Summer dresses. Their dresses are undeniable the real deal!
WIN IT!PerryWinkles Kids has generously offered to give away one of their gorgeous smocked dresses to one lucky reader! The reader can choose the dress of their choice. In order to receive one entry, head over to PerryWinkles Kids and let us know which dress you would choose if you won.

Cartizan - Local Manitoban Crafters Directory
Are you a Manitoban looking for locally made products? Or a Manitoban artisan/crafter or maker and seller of (fill in the blank!) and looking for a way to reach the local (and broader) market? Then you'll be happy to hear about Cartizan! This new website is a treasure trove of local crafting etc listings! Organized by categories, you'll find stationery, edible products, artwork, baby items, (hand)bags, just to name a few!
Local Artisans can register as a Cartizan Artizan. This gives you the chance to tell people about yourself and your work, connecting with local buyers. Local shoppers and browsers can find local, talented crafters through Cartizan's directories and take a look at the links to any of their own websites. It's also possible to communicate directly with Artizans to find out more about their handiwork.
As a locally-minded consumer, you'll find out about artisans and crafters you'd never heard of before! Cartizan is only about 3 weeks old and already there are quite a few listings! As well, there will be an Interactive Venue Directory where you can list or find a crafting event (craft sales, farmer’s markets, festivals with markets and anywhere else that sells local handmade goods). Each week, a participant is featured on the homepage.

Take a look at Cartizan – you'll be surprised at what you'll find! And keep coming back as the website gains more listings and continues to develop. There is already 1 artisan with pictures of his work – Ivan Berkowitz, a potter who makes dishes safe to cook with and eat on – and the hope is that more listings will contain pictures very soon.
