Let's Go From Me to We!

Clothing is a necessity in our world, isn't it? And it seems that there are new styles, fashions and designs coming out all the time. However...sometimes I wonder - who created what I'm wearing? Was it kids in a 3rd world country? Was it made ethically? Is it a quality item that will last more than a few months? Recently I discovered a fabulous online shop called Me to We Style. Besides the fact that their clothing looks great, it also is very nice to find a company who answers all the above questions for me BEFORE I purchase any of their products! Me to We products are all ethically manufactured, sweatshop-free and are made from quality fabrics including certified organic cotton and viscose from bamboo. Wow!! I received the Henna Flower Tee. It has already become one of my favorite t-shirts! It is soft, stretchy, fitted and simple, yet has a beautiful print on both the front and back. I love that it has a longer body as well -it's perfect for taller people (like me :) ), and even works great as a maternity t-shirt. Baby and I still fit inside it at almost 8 months pregnant! The extra stretch and the long body really work well - and it's amazingly comfortable too. :)

Me to We Style has clothing for both men and women - and a great selection for both genders as well! Many of their products have a great message on them as well...simple, straightforward and powerful! Me to We doesn't just "preach the message" either - they do their part! 50 percent of their profit is given to the Free the Children charity. So not only are they making a difference by creating their clothes in factories that pay a fair wage, but they are working towards giving children and families around the globe better lives as well. I was (and am!) thoroughly impressed by both the products from Me to We Style, as well as their standards and their giving spirit. :)

Little Caterpillar in Training

Potty training. One of those things that us parents may dread...yet, look forward to for the simple reason that it means no more dirty diapers! It's a tricky thing...this potty training stage...different with every kid and you need to be ready for messes in the strangest places sometimes. :) We are currently working on potty training Emily and Caterpillar Baby sent us the best training pants we've ever used. Now, that said...if you WANT your little one to feel the full effect of wetting themselves, these won't always do that for you. But, they are SO very nice for every other aspect of potty training. The Bambino Mio Training Pants look like "big kid" underwear, feel like "big kid" underwear, yet they have a hidden waterproof layer inside the fabric. You can't see it, or even really feel it, but it's there and we've found that to be a huge help for Emily! She still feels the wetness since the rest of the training pant is made from cotton fabric, yet she's not leaving puddles all over our rugs if she has an accident. Of course, being a cloth diapering mom, I LOVE that these are cloth training pants and can be washed and reused many, many times. Since the Bambino Mio Training Pants have extra absorbancy and the waterproof layer, they ideal to wear when you're out and about...helps to keep the accidents more or less contained. These training pants are definitely a product that receives a double thumbs up! In fact...if I was to purchase a new stash of training pants, I'd be strongly tempted to have the 'stash' made up mainly of Bambino Mio Training Pants!

Caterpillar Baby also carries a great selection of cloth diapers and accessories for those of us who have not quite reached the potty training stage yet! Besides cloth diapers and training pants, you'll also find a few other special items at Caterpillar Baby...for example, check out the For Mom section...or the Cleaning Products. They work hard to provide you with the best products they can find, and with great prices as well - in fact, they even price match! Head over and take a peek. :)

Chimparoo for me and you!

One of my favorite things about having a baby in the house again is trying out all my baby carriers with her! There are times when it's the easiest way to put Emery to sleep, and other times when I just want to snuggle her close without putting the strain on my arms and back.

With all the talk about baby carrier safety in the news, I want to tell you of an amazing Canadian company that is doing their part in making sure babies are carried properly. Chimparoo has wonderful safety instructions on their website, and they have a great DVD available as well, that shows how to safely use their carriers. I really appreciated all the information, as those that are new to baby wearing need the extra instruction. The website and DVD are also bilingual, so anyone who speaks French will be able to understand this DVD as well. Truly Canadian!

Chimparoo sent me a beautiful woven wrap to try, and I was so excited to finally put in on! A woven wrap really is all that it's made out to be. Emery is growing quickly, but she feels practically weightless in the wrap. A woven wrap really distributes the weight on your body, to ease any strain on your back. And the fabric is specially milled just for these carriers, to give the right amount of support, even while carrying a 30+ pound toddler, making this the only carrier you'd ever need. I am still very much practicing with her in the carrier though, and I hope to be a pro within a few months! It does take a bit of tweaking and trying again when you first start out with a woven wrap.

Many of you who are avid baby wearers are probably wondering how this wrap compares with some of the more well known wraps. Having personally tried a Didymos (stripes) I can say that this carrier is every bit as quality and well made. The colors are gorgeous and vibrant as well, and at half the price of some of the more expensive carriers, I would choose a Chimparoo for sure! That is the beauty of having the carriers finished right in Canada. You don't have to pay the very high importing fees.

So if you are really wanting to try out a woven wrap, the Chimparoo is an amazing deal on a very high quality wrap. You won't be disappointed! Chimparoo also offers a Mei Tai carrier as well as a stretchy wrap.

Little Blue SquidKid

When it comes to little girls...well, there's just something FUN about getting them dressed each morning! It must be the extra options of dresses, skirts and hair accessories that make it more exciting. Or maybe it's how cute all the girly things are. Whatever it is, I like it! :) We are especially loving our newest addition to the row of dresses hanging in the closet. SquidKid Design sent Emily an absolutely gorgeous Cobalt Blue Dress. Oh my. It became an instant favorite the minute we laid eyes on it. :) The dress is simple yet adorable. Dressy, but comfortable. Delicate yet durable. It is unique, vibrant, and best of all...handmade right here in Canada!

SquidKid Design is 100% Canadian and they work hard to create the most beautiful and comfortable items for the littlest people in our lives. You'll find that they don't have a huge selection of products, but let's just say that that judging from the fabulous designs and the quality of the SquidKid products I received, that I'd rather shop at SquidKid than at many of the other online stores I've discovered. They've captivated me and my little princess with their products! As I mentioned, the quality is unbeatable. There's just something about handmade products that wins the 'gold medal'...hands down...almost every single time. SquidKid Design definitely fits into this category, and you can easily see that they've designed and sewn their dresses, skirts, etc. with the utmost care.

Who will you pretend to be today? GIVEAWAY! CLOSED

Jonathan has really gotten to the “pretend and imagine stage.” It's so funny to hear his stories! :) And, he loves to dress up or use props to help his imaginations along! He was very happy to pretend to be a dragon with his dragontail and ears headband that he received from Fancy Pants Kids! This tail is great! :) He goes around growling and spewing fire, acting very convincingly like a dragon! The tail is light enough to be worn easily, but you certainly know it's there, and the ears headband really does add to the costume! Daniel, not to be outdone, has also wanted to wear the tail, and has consented to the headband for a few seconds before pulling it off, just because he can!

Fancy Pants Kids makes and sells some great dress-up clothes for kids – most even fit adults too! For example, the dragontail comes in 2 lengths (30 inches and 50 inches – we have the short one). The headband is very adjustable, as my dad proved when he put it on, but I won't embarrass him by posting a picture here! :) They are well sew, made to last, and easy to care for – either machine washable, or easy to wipe off. The really nice thing about the various items is how versatile they are and how creative they allow the kids to be. Jonathan can get himself all rigged up as a dragon or dinosaur (or whatever it happens to be that day) all by himself, and act out a story. It's been great to see his imagination develop, with just these 2 simple accessories. Something else I like about them is how they're enough to help the kids play a role without being a hindrance, as some costumes tend to be because they're so elaborate.

WIN IT!

Fancy Pants Kids has generously offered to give a dragontail and ears headband set to one of our readers – in their choice of size and colour! To enter, please visit Fancy Pants Kids and comment below on your favourite product.

hydraSense - Helping Baby Breathe

It's so hard when your infants and young children get sick. All moms I've talked to just want to DO SOMETHING to help their little ones...but don't know what to do, or whatever they do try doesn't work very well. The most common sickness is of course a cold. Even this winter, we've been through several spurts of us all getting a cold and having a LONG week of kids not sleeping well, drinking well or eating well due to the fact that they are stuffed up and are having trouble breathing. HydraSense recently sent us something that has been fabulous. Since we don't have an infant in our home right now, I've only used the gentle mist nasal spray. However, this alone has worked wonders for both Tate and Emily. Although they had a cold, neither of them had trouble sleeping at night once I started using the nasal spray on them before they went to sleep. My comment to my husband every night was..."I can't believe we didn't use this before!" :)

HydraSense has also recently developed a new Nasal Aspirator which is a gentle, safe and hygienic way to help infants or children under 2 years old to breathe easier. It's perfect for both colds and allergies and is very easy to use! I'm definitely looking forward to having this on hand to use with our baby when she is born in a few months. (In fact, it is on the list to be packed into our hospital bag!) It looks and sounds 100 times better than the squeezable nasal aspirator we have. You can control the amount of suction, it has a soft nasal tip, you can see what's coming out (or not coming out!), and it's very safe and easy to use. If you're still having trouble helping your little one breathe, you can use the hydraSense Easydose or Ultra-Gentle Mist first to help moisten things up. Both the Easydose and hydraSense Gentle mist are made with isotonic 100% natural-source seawater...so it is gentle, efficient and natural.

BUY IT!
Head over and check out the hydraSense website for more information. There are products for the whole family! If you're liking the sounds of their new Nasal Apsirator, here is a great video that shows how it is used. HydraSense is offering you an $8 off coupon towards the purchase of the hydraSense Nasal Aspirator! In order to get your coupon, simply head over HERE before April 10, 2010, sign up for the Dolphins Club and download this exclusive coupon. You'll need a special code once you've logged into your account - simply enter the code MC2010 and this great coupon will be available to you!

Remove it All ~ Naturally!

Have you ever noticed that even the most "washable" markers and paints often don't come off of your kids' hands after the first washing? Even finger paints...certain colors seem to want to penetrate into the skin and stay there for at least a few washings...or maybe until they've had a really long bath! And I don't even want to start talking about how long it takes to get more permanent things off our skin...you know, stuff like permanent marker, pen/ink, or even that sticky residue that gets left behind from bandaids. Little Stork Naturals carries a fabulous product that aids in removing...well, ALL those things that just don't want to come off our kids' skin or off our own skin. We tried out the Coconut Orange "Get Stuff Off Your Skin!" product by Removeez. One of the best features of it is that it is completely natural (and with it's blend of natural oils, and plant and flower extracts, it smells delicious too!) When soap and water can't seem to get the job done, Removeez has definitely helped us out in the past few weeks! Removeez works on all sorts of tough 'stains'...here's just a few of the many things that Removeez can be used on:

*Temporary tattoos
*Bandages
*Tar
*Ink/Ballpoint pen
*Permanent markers
*Residue adhesive
*Auto grease
*Shoe polish
*Color copy ink/Personal printer ink
*Paint
*Tile and carpet adhesive
*Oil based paints
*Industrial adhesives

Pretty impressive, huh? :) We did find that on some of the tougher stains (such as permanent marker) we had to apply it a few times to get it completely off our skin, but it did work. And it works great for kids - fast, easy and natural!

Little Stork Naturals carries a great selection of other great natural products for children and adults as well! Now that spring is on it's way and summer isn't too far off either, why not check out their outdoor gear? Or perhaps you're a mom-to-be or need some gentle organic bath products for your little ones. Little Stork Naturals has got you covered and would love to provide you with some quality products for yourself and your family.

Royale Reno-cation - Great Contest there and GIVEAWAY here!

Reno-cation - can you imagine doing a home renovation and taking a vacation at the same time? If we're lucky, most of us can only do one or the other! With the Royale Reno-cation Contest, you have the chance to win some great prizes, that might just allow you to do both:

  • The Grand prize includes $13,000 to spend on a home renovation in any way the winner chooses AND an 11-day, $7,000 Royal Caribbean cruise for two on the “Jewel of the Seas.”
  • An additional $5,000 in prizes will be given away to secondary winners in the form of 15 weekly prize packs from the Royale Luxury Bath Collection that include a personal heated towel rack, new luxurious towels, and premium Royale robes.
Sounds pretty sweet doesn't it! :)

To enter, visit the Royale Reno-cation website. There are 2 ways to enter - fast or fun. Fast is just entering your information, and you get 1 entry. Fun is worth 2 entries - you play a game (different every week) first. Plus if you refer friends you get a chance of up to 10 more entries. And, you can enter once every day until the contest ends. Open to Canadians only, from March 8, 2010 until June 20, 2010. That's a lot of entries! :)

To sweeten the pot even more, we're host a mini Reno-cation contest of our own right here at Glimpse Reviews. Read on for more details!

We live in an older home (110 years!) and have lots of renovation plans but not so much renovation cash! Right now we're refinishing the basement, but it would be great to push out the back wall, extend the kitchen and the upstairs a bit so we could make the kitchen more efficient and have at least 1 extra bedroom upstairs. Or we could finish replacing all the windows - some are still original glass and only single pane (with storm windows on the outside to cut the breeze a bit!). Or we could finish the attic so it's livable again, build back the dormer window some previous unenlightened owner took out and make a master suite up there. You see - lots of possibilities!

I guess at the top of our big vacation list right now would be a trip back to the Netherlands. It's been over 3 years since we moved back to Canada, and it seems about time to go and visit our family and friends again. While in Europe, we could travel around a bit to see some other interesting places with the kids as well. No problem spending the vacation money we don't have either! :)

But, enough about me! What would you renovate? Where would you go on a vacation if you could choose?

To enter our own Reno-cation contest, simply comment below on your own ultimate reno-cation plans. You'll have a chance to win a $50 Cara Restaurant gift card (accepted at Swiss Chalet, Montana’s, Milestones, Kelsey’s and Harvey’s) as well as a $50 Home Hardware gift card. As this is part of a Mom Central blog campaign, Mom Central will send the prizes directly to the winner. 1 comment per person please, no extra entries this time!

Contest is open to Canadian residents only and ends April 27, 2010. Please view our giveaway rules for more info.

Scentsy Up Your Home ~ GIVEAWAY!

The smell of a fresh home is something that I think we all covet some days! For example...yesterday? I made fish for supper. It was great...but the fishy smell that lingers afterwards, well, that's not so great! Scentsy has a real neat product that helps get rid of the bad smells or just makes your home smell fresh and fragrant whenever you'd like. The Scentsy Warmer is much safer than using a candle as it require no fire and no matches to get it started! This is especially handy when you've got little ones running around - especially 3 year old boys who happen to LOVE fire. ;) The Scentsy warmer is a wickless candle that is simply heated by a 25 watt lightbulb. The bulb melts the scented wax in the top portion of the warmer, and all you have to do is flip the on/off switch in order to fill your home with the scent of your choice. Scentsy has a great selection of scents to choose from as well - Vanilla Suede, Sunkissed Citrus, and Sugar Cookie are just a few to whet your appetite! :)

Scentsy also carries other products such as car freshners, room sprays, plug-ins, travel tins and more. Perfect for home, travel or ever your workplace.

Sweet Shredded Rubber Dreams ~ GIVEAWAY!

Sweet dreams can be hard to come by some nights...especially if you have allergies or can't get comfortable. (or if are like me and are 7 months pregnant! But that's a whole different ball game! haha :) ) Organic Lifestyle recently sent Tate a new pillow that seems to be just perfect for his growing head (and body :) ). Until recently I thought that all pillows were made of either feathers or foam. I never imagined that anyone would want to sleep on shredded rubber...or that it might even be comfortable. But it IS! We are so very impressed with our natural shredded rubber pillow from Organic Lifestyle. You honestly cannot even tell that the pillow has shredded rubber in it - it is soft, and cushy and so comfy! And there are a bunch of benefits to using a shredded rubber pillow instead of the usual feather or foam ones. It helps with allergies, can get rid of night sweats, and is durable and machine washable! It doesn't flatten down after using it for a few months either, which is fabulous. This particular pillow from Organic Lifestyle is also 100% certified organic. Let's just say that we are very pleased with our first-ever shredded rubber pillow and it has been a wonderful addition to our sons bedroom!

Organic Lifestyle also carries shredded rubber pillows for us grown-ups! I would love to invest in one of these for each member of our family someday. While browsing through their shop, you'll also find organic clothing for the whole family, mattress pads, comforters, and even a bunch of neat accessories for your kitchen! Organic Lifestyle has obviously done the hard work and is bringing us the best of the best in the world of organic!

WIN IT!
Organic Lifestyle is giving one of our readers their very own Shredded Rubber Pillow (youth/travel size). Kicking Horse Coffee - Feels good, tastes great!

There's something sort of decadent about sitting by yourself, with a hot drink and some reading material, for some uninterrupted “mom time.” I guess that's because it's so rare, especially when there are 2 little people around, and lots of jobs to get done. The only time that Mom gets quiet time in this house is when the youngest is napping and the oldest one is at nursery school, or after they've both gone to bed at night, and then there's always the temptation (or desperate need) to get other stuff done. I'm sure you Moms out there can relate! :) I do know I feel more “recharged” if I have a bit of rest time, so I've been trying to sit down, even for a little while.

I'm not one to go to the “fuss” of making coffee for myself, but lately, I've done that several times. I know, pretty amazing (well, for me it is!): grind the beans, boil the water, time the coffee in the French Press, drink the coffee - actually finish the cup before something else happens! :) My husband is the coffee “connoisseur” in our house – it must be something in his Dutch genes! So he's been quite surprised when he sees that there's coffee made in the middle of the day. But that's because lately, we've been drinking some awesome coffee! I either like coffee or I don't – Richard can tell the difference between brands or roasts and is much pickier than I, or maybe his coffee taster is much more sensitive. But we both agree on this coffee: Kicking Horse!

Kicking Horse Coffee has 21 different kinds of coffee in their product line, so there's got to be one for every taste! We were sent 3 sample bags to try: Kick Ass (dark roast), Three Sisters (medium roast) and decaf (dark roast). Wow! Richard was thrilled when the package arrived, and I must say I was very tantalized by the smell as well! Before we get on to how the coffee tastes though, I must say I was very impressed by Kicking Horse's philosophy.

Kicking Horse coffee is certified organic and certified fair-trade and it's roasted in Invermere, BC. The company uses sustainable business practices such as recyclable packaging, recycling and energy efficiency in their factory. Kicking Horse supports local community initiatives such as the Invermere Anti-Idling campaign, local food banks, the Nature Conservancy of Canada as well as projects farther afield, such as the Coffee Kids program, which aims to help coffee-farming families improve their quality of life.

And, the coffee tastes great! :)

I preferred the medium roast coffee – it's a great flavour without too strong. Richard, on the other hand, really enjoyed the dark roast, because that's more his flavour preference. And, for the first time, we've found a decaf coffee that doesn't taste like decaf! I'm used to decaf drinks, but Richard is certain he can always tell the difference. Well, I made decaf coffee a couple of times and he didn't know! :) I'm sure its partly the fact that we had beans instead of ground coffee, which really makes a difference to the taste. But we've tried other coffee beans before Kicking Horse, and this is our favourite. Knowing that we were drinking great tasting which was also organic and fair trade coffee made for a happy coffee “break” all around!

BUY IT!

Kicking Horse Coffee is giving all Glimpse readers 10% off any coffee purchases. In order to receive your discount, use the coupon code: glimpse. (Enter it in the coupon box during checkout). Expires March 31st, 2010.

An Opportunity to Give Back

Recently I did ran a giveaway for an excellent shop/organization called Oma Mary. You can read my review here. Since then, Oma Mary announced on HOT103 (a Winnipeg Radio Station) that they will be donating security blankets to children in Haiti. They are aiming for a March 30th deadline, so we still have a few weeks to get in on the donation.

Here's how you can become involved:

1. Become a fan on facebook!

2. Follow on twitter!

3. Donate a new or gently used security blanket, make a security blanket, or donate fabric

4. Become a depot and collect donated blankets (The depot is in Winkler, Manitoba and the blankets will be collected from there on March 30)

Loads of Loot! ~ GIVEAWAY!!

I never knew how much organizing was required for a birthday party...until I had to do it myself! Invitations, food, a cake, snacks, stuff to do for everyone, and then of course the ever-famous loot bags at the end. I haven't organized too many parties yet, but enough to know that it takes a lot of energy and planning. Well, Loot Lady.com has set out to make our party planning job a little bit easier! Loot Lady has a ton (and I mean A TON!) of loot bags that you can purchase for your birthday party guests, and even for the birthday boy himself. Loot Lady recently sent Tate a very special loot bag as a gift (pictured to the left). It included his very own Fisher Price Kid Tough Digital Camera, which was definitely the highlight of the bag! Inside he also found a ball, and a few treats (really tasty looking ones too!) For me to say that Tate loved his loot bag is an understatement. :) He photographed everything in sight for a few days - in fact, I think he took over 400 pictures in 2 days! haha. :)

Some of the loot bags you will find are more expensive and extravagant, but you can also find lower priced loot bags too! Check out the Fun Bags which range from 3.99-5.99. Even these look like a lot of fun, and would be a perfect to make any birthday party extra special. The possibilities are endless really when it comes to the varieties of loot bags that Loot Lady.com offers!!! You'll find everything from Spiderman to Dora and SO much more. You can create custom orders as well...almost any loot bag your heart desires can be created and sent out to you. Loot Lady works hard to provide quality loot bags that are age appropriate, and most importantly, that kids will LOVE. Plus...as I mentioned before, the loot bags arrive 100% ready for your parties, so it saves us moms a some hours of work and time.

Bamboo on the bum = Bumboo! GIVEAWAY (2 winners!)

Daniel has been trying out another cloth diaper over the past few weeks and he really likes this one! I do too! :) I think the Bumboo diaper's unique shape is great for customizing the absorption to where you need it most – in front for a boy, or more in the middle for a girl. The diaper has a long front piece that you can fold to suit the size and gender of your baby.

The Bumboo diaper is made from 100% bamboo from viscose fibers woven onto a bed of real silk. This results in a very soft and fluffy fabric, similar to terry towelling. Earth Mom and Baby takes great care that their products are made in a way that is environmentally friendly and socially conscious. Read more about their philosophy here.

The Bumboo diaper has 4 rows of snaps at waist for adjusting the rise and many waist positions to assure a good comfortable fit. The elastic at the waist and leg holes is very stretchy, so nothing “escapes!” We've noticed that the Bumboo diaper is very trim. It does require the use of a cover, and this extra step has been a bit tricky sometimes when Daniel is in an especially wiggly mood - he's been fighting diaper changes lately! The diaper comes with an insert for overnight use – but we have not needed the insert in the day time. The insert does fit well into other diapers – we used it as a pocket stuffer or as a lay-in insert – and it can be purchased separately.

Bumboo diapers are:
  • privately tested and proven to maintain their antibacterial properties;
  • 100% biodegradeable, and compostable after their useful life;
  • 4x more absorbent than cotton diapers, and with superior wicking capabilities'
  • available in 2 sizes;
  • very reasonably priced, and sold individually or in 6 or 12-packs (with an even better price!)
One thing I have noticed is that solid waste “sticks” a little to the fabric of the Bumboo diaper, but with a little extra rinsing, this is not an issue. Now that the sun is shining a little more, I can start drying stuff on the line (Spring is almost here!) - the sun is great for helping with stain removal and doesn't affect the diaper's antibacterial properties. Plus, I so like the idea of using all natural fibers - I really like the Bumboo!

I've had great contact with Earth Mom and Baby – their customer service is great! Katherine has been very helpful, offering great tips and always friendly! Thanks! Look around their website at their other great products!

One Posh Baby ~ GIVEAWAY!!

So I have ventured into the world of cloth diapering a newborn, and I have discovered that it is not as scary as one might think! In fact, Emery seems to do better in cloth than disposables. Her little bum seems to be pretty sensitive, turning red very quickly (though no real rashes yet).

One diaper that I have had the chance to try, courtesy of One Posh Baby, is the Thirsties Duo Pocket Diaper. I have several thoughts and opinions on this diaper.

First of all, it's super cute! I chose the Meadow color, since it was sent to me before Emery was born, and we didn't know her gender then. It's a great color, though I think if I had known I was having a girl, I would have chosen Orchid or Rose.

Secondly, it fits well, and it would also fit a very tiny baby well. The Duo Diaper comes in just two sizes, but within the two sizes, you can snap each diaper down to make three sizes. So in total, there are six sizes, but you only have to purchase two sets. Love that feature for sure. Emery was not a tiny newborn (8 lbs 10 oz) so I've been using the Duo Diaper on the second snap setting. That means that those of you who have tiny ones can snap it down even smaller to get a great fit!

Another awesome feature of the Duo diaper is the insert. Now, I'm not a huge fan of microfiber, as it can be harder to wash, but this diaper comes with options! The insert is actually two pieces that snap together. One microfiber insert and one hemp insert. You can choose either one, or both at the same time (when you need extra absorbency). So far I've used it with both, but I think I will probably give it a go with just one insert. I'm confident that Emery doesn't actually need both, and that would eliminate some extra bulk.

That brings me to another point. This diaper is not overly bulky, even with both inserts! It does have a generous cut, which is nice for keeping little tushies covered, but it doesn't make your baby look like a big bubble butt :)

Some extra bonus features... you don't have to un-stuff this pocket diaper! The inserts wash right out in your washer, making it mess free. Also, priced at just $20.95 per diaper, they are very affordable in the world of pocket diapers.

One Posh Baby offers everything you need to cloth diaper successfully, including Rockin' Green Detergent, which I have found to be an excellent option for cloth diaper washing, as well as regular laundry. Make sure to check out the great options in diapers and accessories!

WIN IT!

One Posh Baby would like to offer one lucky Glimpse reader $25 in store credit! That will easily purchase you your very own Thirsties Duo Pocket Diaper, or whatever else you would like to give a try.

A Little Extra Love ~ GIVEAWAY!

When it comes to supper or lunch...or even breakfasts and snacks or desserts I often am faced with the "What am I EVER going to make?!" conundrum! It seems that the ideas seem to evade you after a while - especially once you've got young kids and have less time to search through your cookbooks for something that is both tasty and healthy! I recently discovered a fabulous little cookbook though. Bums Away sent us a copy of Lunchbox Love - and it has been such a wonderful addition to our cookbook cupboard! :) It has over 60 recipes which are all healthy AND delicious. We've tried a few of them over the past few weeks and have loved every one. Oh, and the other good part? They're all on the quick and easy side - no 3 hour preps. for meals! And the recipes range from Featherless Chicken Nuggets to Kitchen Sink Cookies. Yum! The ingredients are sooo sneaky too. ;) Everything is made from healthy, filling and preservative free ingredients. Who knew that cookies could have sunflower seeds, flax AND wheat germ in them and still taste fabulous? I love it! I feel so much better about feeding cookies and treats like this to my kids. They are filled with goodness and are free from all the sugar, white flour, etc. that you normally see in most recipes.

Lunchbox Love is also filled with a TON of "Who Knew?" tidbits and advice. Like...did you know that in 1 tbsp. of ketchup there is 1 tsp. of sugar?! That's a lot!!! Sooo, instead why not use mustard or salsa? They're far healthier and have more flavor too. Lunchbox Love is a great cookbook for moms and grandmas alike - perfect for moms with toddlers, or moms who need new and healthy ideas for school lunches, or even for just making for yourself to enjoy at home!

Bums Away also carries a great selection of other products to make your home a healthier place. They've got all the cloth diapers and accessories you'll need, a great selection of products just for mom and more!

How to have Easier Days - Easy Daysies! GIVEAWAY! CLOSED

Recently we decided Jonathan was ready (or we were ready!) to have a little more responsibility: a few tasks each day and the accountability to get them done by himself. Jonathan also really likes knowing in advance what is going to happen so he can be prepared (most kids do), but somehow it was difficult to let him know and help him remember the day's plan. I guess my brain was on leave, because I used to have a system in the classroom to help kids with this: the daily menu. I'd write the order of events on the board in the morning, and they could get ready for the next one by themselves as much as possible, as well as knowing when things would happen.

Elaine Tan Comeau is a teacher who also uses the visual daily schedule in her classroom, and started using something similar with her own children at home. What started as basic daily schedule pictures drawn for a 3-year old became a magnetic schedule of standard, returning events kept on the fridge. Now, Easy Daysies is available to everyone! Everything is made in Canada; the magnets are even made from 70% recycled materials!

Kids learn:
  • Routine
  • Responsibility
  • Priorities
  • Sight Word Recognition
Kids Develop:
  • Self-discipline
  • Respect
  • Good Work Habits
  • Confidence & Security
Great for:
  • Home
  • Classroom
  • Preschool
  • Daycare
  • Homeschooling
  • Kids with Special Needs
Jonathan was given an Easy Daysies starter set (at left) and Family Activities set (pictured above) to help him get organized. Each night, part of our bedtime routine has been to plan out the next day. Our fridge isn't magnetic but we've used Jonathan's white board in his room to stick the magnets on. The starter set comes with 18 magnets (such as: make bed, brush teeth, eat breakfast) and a “fold-and-go” magnetic board (top picture) which is handy for taking the schedule along to Grandma's, the babysitter's etc, or even for using at home when you don't have a suitable magnetic surface! The magnets each have a word and a visual, stick well, and can be written on with a white board marker (blank magnets are available if you have activities that aren't pre-printed). The Family Activities set includes events like: play date, doctor, dentist and party! The dry-erase marker is also magnetic and has a built in eraser.

Other extension sets are available: check out the Easy Daysies online shop!

Jonathan also received a ReStickables set in blue. The ReStickables are a great idea! Made from fabric, the stickers are very sturdy, and are easy to place and replace as a room system changes. And, they don't leave a sticky residue! Yay! With a picture and words, they help kids find their clothes and also learn to read the words! Jonathan had great fun placing the stickers on the right drawer. The stickers come in blue, pink and orange.

Keeping it Healthy ~ GIVEAWAY!

There are piles of things that we can do these days to create a healthier lifestyle for ourselves and our families! And it seems that these sorts of products are slowly becoming more available and more accepted - which is SO great! We've made a lot of steps in our own home to make it a better environment...and even little things make a big difference sometimes. :) One thing that I haven't been able to get away from though is all my plastic storage containers! They're so handy...and well, with young kids who know how to open the fridge I'm not about to store things in glass all the time. NoPlastic.ca recently gave us a third option though! We received a 12cm airtight stainless steel food storage container. It has been wonderful! No plastic, no lid that slips of easily, and it's not even breakable! The lid snaps on nice and tight - and even if you drop the container on the floor when it's filled with, say, something like runny soup...it won't open, leak or spill. Let's just say it's the perfect solution for a mom like me who's prone to dropping things. ;) Besides all that, stainless steel is a much safer option for storing your food in than plastic. The stainless steel containers come in a variety of sizes as well starting at 8cm (perfect for storing snacks or baby food!) to 26cm (which is great for bread, watermelon etc.). If you're like me and you like to be able to SEE what's inside your containers without opening them all, the stainless steel containers can be written on with a non-permanent marker so you'll know what's inside without having to take a peek. I've found that our airtight stainless steel container keeps things fresh, and tasty and is great for both the freezer and the fridge. They would be a great addition to any kitchen!

NoPlastic.ca
also carries a great selection of other products to keep you and your family healthy! I love the looks and sounds of their LunchBots Food Containers - perfect for lunches, picnics or travelling! Take a browse through their site - you'll find they offer everything from laundry detergent to safer frying pans!

Just Like ME! ~ GIVEAWAY

I'm not one to complain about hand-me-downs...in fact, we love hand-me-downs or even thrift store and garage sale finds in our home! But every once in a while we also like to find a special dress, or special shirt for our kids - something that is fun, unique, and personalized in a special way. We were delighted when my kidsquarters sent Tate a t-shirt that fit all of the above descriptions...and more! My kidsquarters has a fabulous line of t-shirts for babies, toddlers, kids, and teens. Tate received one of the Sports Kids t-shirts. These are SO fun because not only do you get to pick the sport that you'd like featured on the shirt, but you also get to pick a cartoon-style kid that looks the most like your son or daughter, as well as customize the hair and skin color and even the uniform color if you'd like - just because they want it too look as much like your child as possible. :) I must say, my kidsquarters does a great job of customizing and creating the Sports Kids T-shirts! Tate loved his soccer t-shirt - and loved that the boy on the shirt looked "just like him!"

My kidsquarters offers other products as well - most of which can be personalized to suit your kids. The personalized blankets look wonderful...perhaps the perfect way to make bedtime or naptime a teeny bit easier. You'll find other great items as well...like the tote bags, or pillows! My kidsquarters is a great place to shop for a gift for that "hard-to-buy-for-teen" or even for birthday party or baby shower presents.
Oh, and I MUST mention - any mom knows how hard it can be to shop with kids around...even if you're shopping from the computer...it seems like someone always needs help or gets an owie. My kidsquarters has even thought of a solution for our busy kids! They've got a great kids center where you can download free coloring pages or maybe even a craft idea to keep those little hands occupied while you shop.

Nellie's All-Natural - GIVEAWAY (2 winners)!! CLOSED

Laundry and dishes: necessary daily tasks, but certainly not my most enjoyable. However, I do like to have clean clothes and clean dishes...thank goodness for washing machines and dishwashers! I am really glad I wasn't born before their invention! :) But then comes the big question: which detergents to use? If you walk down the laundry aisle at a supermarket, there are many many choices. I've tried a few different brands, yeah, they get the clothes clean, but then the clothes smell like: lemons, lilies, fresh mountain air etc etc... With so many allergies in our families, and with so many scent-sensitive people around, I started trying various unscented brands.

Then I discovered Nellie's All-Natural! This Canadian company has created cleaning products that are hypoallergenic and environmentally friendly. Nellie's makes laundry detergent and dishwasher detergent in 2 formats: powder and nuggets. The nuggets are wrapped in a casing that dissolves in water. Their aim is to reduce consumption – the formulas are super-concentrated, and dry (why ship water around?).

We were given a container of laundry soda and dish powder to try. Both come in a metal container (easily recyclable) with a very tight fitting lid - I have to struggle to get it off, so it's fairly kid-proof too, but just in case, I keep it in a locked cabinet anyway. We've been using Nellie's All-Natural for about a month now, and are very happy with the results. Clothes and dishes are clean, not artificially smelly, and there are no soap “stains” (some powder detergents I've tried haven't dissolved completely).

Nellie's All-Natural laundry soda:
  • contains no additives, fillers or phosphates
  • dissolves quickly in hot or cold water
  • rinses clear
  • leaves no residue
  • can be used to make a stain removing solution (instructions on the tin)
It works great on cloth diapers too (no repelling). It's unscented but the clean clothes smell clean (one of my husbands biggest complaints about other unscented or natural detergents we've tried was that they smelled stale). It's so concentrated, you need just 1 tablespoon per large load. With 2 adults and 2 kids in our family, I do approximately 1 load of laundry every day, and in a month I've used about 1/3 of container of laundry soda (100 washes size). One thing I've noticed is that I have to pre-treat tough stains like ketchup or tomato ( I had to before anyway) but many stains like chocolate or toothpaste (!) have come out just in the wash.

Nellie's All-Natural automatic dish powder:
  • is biodegradable
  • is phosphate-free
  • has no peculiar tastes or odours
It also is concentrated – 1 teaspoon per load has been enough, and most of the time I'm not rinsing the dishes either, unless I know that I won't be running the dishwasher that day. Dishes are clean (even pasta sauce on the Tupperware!). The only thing it didn't get clean was the crayon that managed to sneak into the dishwasher, but that's another story!

Nellie's All-Natural also sells original and PVC-free dryer balls and an Oxygen Brightener (for stain removal), as well as a rinse agent for in the dishwasher. The laundry soda and dish powder are available in various sizes, including a bulk-size pail that will keep you going for a while! You can order from their online shop or find a retailer near you.

WIN IT!

Nellie's All-Natural has graciously offered to give 2 lucky Glimpse readers each a container of laundry soda and automatic dish powder! Visit Nellie's All-Natural and comment telling us why you would like to try natural laundry soda or dish powder.
