Caring for the Planet, one bag at a time! ~ Giveaway!! (10 Winners!!) 12/20

I'm a huge fan of reusable bags, and always have a few with me in my purse. When I do my grocery shopping, I grab my bag full of bags, and head out the door. My grocery store actually even gives me 4 cents back for every reusable bag I use, so it's an extra bonus!

Recently I had the chance to try out two fabulous types of reusable bags. The first ones are the Carebags bulk/produce bags. These bags are fabulous! They are super strong, stretchy, and the drawstring is perfect. Each Carebags drawstring bag holds up to 8 pounds of bulk foods or produce!

When you first look at the bags, they really don't look big enough to hold much. They are 9 x 11 inches, but stretch an incredible amount.

The second set of bags I received was the Gotit! 3 pack of reusable bags. They are very similar to the Carebags, but there are a few differences. First of all, they are the same size, but they don't stretch quite as much as the Carebags. They also only hold up to 6 pounds. The advantage to them is that they are easier to see through than the Carebags. The white allows you to see what is in the bag easier than the green.

One great feature that both types of bags share is that you can wash and store your produce right in the bag! This saves you time and actually keeps your veggies fresher longer. Just make sure you follow directions for certain types of produce.

Both types of bags available from Carebags are made right here in Canada, which makes a HUGE difference for our environment. Why get things made in China when we can get them made right at home!

I have already suggested that my local grocery store carries these bags, I love them so much! They would make awesome stocking stuffers or small gifts for everyone on your Christmas gift list!

WIN IT!
Carebags is offering 10 lucky winners a single reusable bag! In order to enter, please leave us a comment stating one downfall of plastic bags.

*If you have already won a Carebags reusable bag from Andrea's review, please do not enter again. We'd like to give more people the chance to try them out! Thanks!*

CONTEST OPEN WORLDWIDE! Contest ends on December 20, 2010. Please view our giveaway rules for more info.

When they fill up your cupboard (or wherever you keep your bags) and you end up having to throw half out just so you can stash more! It's sad really, because you could have just used a reusable bag and saved yourself the trouble and stress, and the environment as well!

It takes hundreds of years for plastic bags to break down in the ground and toxic bits seep into the ground, lakes, rivers, and oceans.

Plastic bags can be dangerous if kids get their hands on them!

I discovered at WikiAnswers that "plastic degradation at sea takes between 45-1000 years".

Plastic bags are dangerous. They also takes hundreds of years (just like disposable diapers!) to break down.

At best, they end up in the landfill, at worst they pose a threat to wild animals and marine animals.

Plastic bags just accumulate in drawers, landfills. People don't always recycle and they end up being trash on the side of a roadway.

Plastic bags are seriously dangerous to have in your home if you have babies, toddlers and even children around! Even if you don't have any children yourself, you may have company at some point who have small children...the bags need to go!

They accumulate so quickly in the house that you can't even store them to reuse them.

Plastic bags get holes in them real easily. Also it takes hundreds of years to break down plastic bags in a landfill.

Plastic bags are not renewable, which means they cannot be easily recycled like paper bags. They are made of petrochemicals, which is what makes them non-renewable and a risk to the health of the planet. They last for hundreds of years, all the while doing damage to natural habitats and killing animals that mistake them for food. The more plastic bags people use, the greater the chances of environmental damage.
