Prairie Naturals - Healthy Gum Choice! GIVEAWAY!! (6 winners!)

Have you noticed how much probiotics are mentioned lately? There are many products available at the supermarkets with probiotics added - and their benefits seem quite conclusive. I think I've got a new one for the list though: probiotic gum!

Prairie Naturals is a Canadian company based in Coquitlam, BC. Their company's "core business is the research, development, marketing and distribution of more than 100 premium quality nutritional supplements, natural hair and natural body care products." They  make a variety of products, all designed to help you "Live the Healthy Life."

We were sent samples of the probiotic gum from their sub-company: Cultured Care. The idea behind probiotic gum is that it will help to protect against infections where they enter the body (through the mouth). The bacteria in  the gum also give your immune system a boost, helping you to fight off upper-respiratory infections. Another benefit is that the gum helps to counteract breath issues by stopping the growth of any "bad" bacteria that might be causing the problem. In a gum form, the mouth is exposed to "good" bacteria for a sufficient period of time to be effective. Tooth decay issues are also a result of "bad" bacteria, and the probiotics in the gum help to combat that as well.

Cultured Care's probiotic gum comes in 3 flavours: Mango-Guava, Spearmint-Peppermint and Raspberry-Pomegranate. It is suitable for adults (including pregnant women) and children.

We were sent a sample of each of the flavours to try, and my husband and I have tried them all. Although we are not regular "gum chewers," we both found the tastes to be pleasant, although I didn't enjoy the Spearmint-Peppermint as much as the other (I'm just not a great fan of peppermint). The gum was pleasant to chew, the taste was obvious but not overpoweringly strong, and it lasted for a satisfying amount of time - not too short or too long.

As to the probiotic benefits, well, I really can't comment on that too much, but it was nice to know that we were contributing to better health while chewing! I do believe that probiotics are helpful, and this is another great way of getting back in balance, especially for someone who chews gum all the time anyway! Something else I liked was that it was sweetened with Xylitol (known to have a positive effect on the health of teeth and gums) and Stevia - no artificial sweeteners. :)
