Nellie's All-Natural - GIVEAWAY (2 winners)!! CLOSED

Laundry and dishes: necessary daily tasks, but certainly not my most enjoyable. However, I do like to have clean clothes and clean dishes...thank goodness for washing machines and dishwashers! I am really glad I wasn't born before their invention! :) But then comes the big question: which detergents to use? If you walk down the laundry aisle at a supermarket, there are many many choices. I've tried a few different brands, yeah, they get the clothes clean, but then the clothes smell like: lemons, lilies, fresh mountain air etc etc... With so many allergies in our families, and with so many scent-sensitive people around, I started trying various unscented brands.

Then I discovered Nellie's All-Natural! This Canadian company has created cleaning products that are hypoallergenic and environmentally friendly. Nellie's makes laundry detergent and dishwasher detergent in 2 formats: powder and nuggets. The nuggets are wrapped in a casing that dissolves in water. Their aim is to reduce consumption – the formulas are super-concentrated, and dry (why ship water around?).

We were given a container of laundry soda and dish powder to try. Both come in a metal container (easily recyclable) with a very tight fitting lid - I have to struggle to get it off, so it's fairly kid-proof too, but just in case, I keep it in a locked cabinet anyway. We've been using Nellie's All-Natural for about a month now, and are very happy with the results. Clothes and dishes are clean, not artificially smelly, and there are no soap “stains” (some powder detergents I've tried haven't dissolved completely).

Nellie's All-Natural laundry soda:
  • contains no additives, fillers or phosphates
  • dissolves quickly in hot or cold water
  • rinses clear
  • leaves no residue
  • can be used to make a stain removing solution (instructions on the tin)
It works great on cloth diapers too (no repelling). It's unscented but the clean clothes smell clean (one of my husbands biggest complaints about other unscented or natural detergents we've tried was that they smelled stale). It's so concentrated, you need just 1 tablespoon per large load. With 2 adults and 2 kids in our family, I do approximately 1 load of laundry every day, and in a month I've used about 1/3 of container of laundry soda (100 washes size). One thing I've noticed is that I have to pre-treat tough stains like ketchup or tomato ( I had to before anyway) but many stains like chocolate or toothpaste (!) have come out just in the wash.

Nellie's All-Natural automatic dish powder:
  • is biodegradable
  • is phosphate-free
  • has no peculiar tastes or odours
It also is concentrated – 1 teaspoon per load has been enough, and most of the time I'm not rinsing the dishes either, unless I know that I won't be running the dishwasher that day. Dishes are clean (even pasta sauce on the Tupperware!). The only thing it didn't get clean was the crayon that managed to sneak into the dishwasher, but that's another story!

Nellie's All-Natural also sells original and PVC-free dryer balls and an Oxygen Brightener (for stain removal), as well as a rinse agent for in the dishwasher. The laundry soda and dish powder are available in various sizes, including a bulk-size pail that will keep you going for a while! You can order from their online shop or find a retailer near you.

WIN IT!

Nellie's All-Natural has graciously offered to give 2 lucky Glimpse readers each a container of laundry soda and automatic dish powder! Visit Nellie's All-Natural and comment telling us why you would like to try natural laundry soda or dish powder.

I actually already use and absolutely adore Nellie's. It gets clothes and diapers cleaner than any other detergent I've tried.

I would like to try the laundry soda, simply because it sounds like a great product and I would like to compare it to what I'm using now; especially to see how it does with my cloth diapers. I would also love to try the dish powder. I just had a conversation (ok, argument) with the hubby the other night about putting the paccies in the dishwasher. I didn't think it was a good idea because I didn't want our commercial-brand dish soap in her mouth. He pointed out that she is now drinking from cups that are from the same dishwasher. He has a point, but don't tell him that. So...I suppose if I start using a more natural dish powder, we both win. :-)

Only having to use 1 tbsp per load is awesome & its hypo allergenic! I react to many laundry soaps on the market today.
