Bouncing off the Walls!

I'm sure you've all seen the cute wooden letters on people's walls. Spelling their child's name with unique colors and patterns. I've always admired them and wanted to get some for my kids. I just wasn't really sure where to get them from, and I really wanted something that would reflect their personalities and personal taste.

Rowan always asks me if there is anything in the mail for him, since I seem to get so many packages, and very few are for him. This time I was excited to say yes! We stopped at the post office to pick up the package, and we had to open it right away. We were both super excited to see the letters of his name, decorated with cars and musical instruments! Both of his favorite things.

Kenzie Prudhomme Photography ~ Giveaway!

Maybe you're like me, and the last time you had a professional picture taken was your wedding day. Yikes! Yes, it's true, we've never even had photos taken of our kids. Terrible, I know. My only real issues with it is that it's very hard to find a reasonably priced Canadian fabric shop. Most of the time fabric retailers charge more in Canada, due to importing costs. This kinda leaves a bad taste in my mouth! Why does everything have to be more expensive in Canada?

Skin MD Natural

About a month ago I was sent a bottle of Skin MD Natural to review here. I should tell you first of all that I am not a big lotion user. I like to have soft skin but it is hard for me to find a lotion that doesn't irritate my skin or make me break out. I also don't like the heavy fragrances that some lotions seem to have so I generally avoid them all together. I have been using it every day since I received it and am very impressed with no complaints.

One great thing about this product is that it also has SPF 15 sunscreen to protect your skin from sun damage. I have been using it on my hands and it stays on after several hand washings, which is great because I am constantly washing my hands and doing dishes throughout the day. The joys of not owning a dishwasher :S. I have also tried it on my face as it is inevitable, I would have eventually needed a sun-screen for summer as my nose/cheeks do easily burn. So far - no breakouts!

Skin MD Natural is a shielding lotion. A conventional lotion does not protect the skin the same as a regular lotion does. Shielding lotion is a non greasy lotion that forms a protective barrier on the skin and keeps out irritants and chemicals. It also allows the natural oils and moisture to remain in the skin so it can heal better. It's often hard to find good, fun, and most importantly, affordable :), activities to do as a family. Chop Those Fruits 'n Veggies!

Yes, we've definitely got a little cook in the making at our house. One of Tate favorite activites is to cook. Cooking with real food is prefered (it's so much more tasty! haha), but cooking with play food is definitely one of his favorite things to do too. Tate's newest cooking addition is a great Fruit & Vegetable Set from Little Treehouse. He can chop and prepare us yummy meals all day long with it! A Different Sort of Review

So today instead of my usual review, I thought I would share something a little different with you. We all like to share, right? How about a great bread recipe! I think baking your own bread is very therapeutic, and downright tasty! Fresh bread with lots of butter. Yummy. Not much better than that :)

So here' s a couple of my favorites, taken from Recipe Zaar, which is one of the best online recipe resources.

It just so happens that I baked both today :)

Amish White Bread

1/4 ounce Dry Yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
1/2 cup Water
1/3 cup Sugar
2 tsp Salt
2 cups Water
2 1/2 Tbsp Shortening (I use butter)
6-7 cups Flour
1/8-1/4 cup butter

1. Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water.
2. In large bowl, combine sugar, salt, 2 cups water and shortening.
3. Stir in yeast mixture.
4. Gradually add flour to form a soft dough.
5. Turn onto floured surface and knead until smooth.
6. Place in a greased bowl and cover and let rise for about 2 hours.
7. Punch down and divide into 2 portions and form loaves.
8. Place in greased 9 x 5 loaf pans and prick tops with fork.
9. Let rise until higher than pans (about 2 hours).
10. Bake at 375 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes.
11. Cool for ten minutes.
12. Rub butter all over tops of loaves.
13. Place pans on sides until loosened.
14. Remove bread from pans and cool completely on racks.

I don't always rub butter all over the loaves, though it does keep the crust nice and soft and tastes good too.

Wholesome Homemade Honey Whole Wheat Bread

2 envelopes Yeast (4 1/2 tsp)
4 cups Water
1/4 cup Molasses
1/2 cup Honey
2 tsp Salt
6 cups Whole Wheat Flour
4 cups White Flour

1. Dissolve yeast in warm water.
2. In a large bowl, combine butter, molasses, honey and salt and mix well.
3. Add yeast mixture and then gradually add flours.
4. Turn onto floured surface and knead until smooth.
5. Place in buttered bowl and let rise until double.
6. Punch down and let rest for a few minutes.
7. Divide dough into 4 parts and shape into loaves.
8. Place in greased pans and let rise for about an hour.
9. Bake at 375* for 35 to 40 minutes.
