Grassroots Environmental Products

Over the past year or so I've been looking for more ways to be kinder to the environment. Things like reusable shopping bags and stainless steel water bottles are becoming more popular, and I think it's great!

Grassroots is an excellent online store where you can find pretty much anything you're looking for! I had the chance to try some excellent products, and I'm sure I'll be ordering more in the future.

Just in time for Christmas, Grassroots has some great reusable gift bags! These are a really cute way to make a difference. They can be used over and over again, washed, and used again! They have color coordinated ribbons attached for easy closing. They come with a small gift tag as well, and it would be really easy to make your own once the original ones have been used. I look forward to using these this Christmas.

Grassroots offers a few different types of produce bags. One made from cotton, and the other is a set of 10 mesh bags. I LOVE the green mesh bags! They are super super cheap, and you can fit quite a bit into them. The cotton ones are great for fruit that you want to be a bit more gentle with like apples and bananas. I'll never be reaching for those plastic produce bags again!

The unbleached cotton bulk bags are great for things like beans, raisins, coffee beans, or whatever you like to buy in bulk! The drawstring feature might make it difficult to use for things like flour or baking powder though. You'd have to be careful to keep it upright.

PURCHASE IT!
Grassroots offers everything from recycled toilet paper, to diaper bags, to home decor! Make sure to check out their website for great gift ideas.

Breastfeed with Bravado! ~ AND A GIVEAWAY!

Breastfeeding is a huge part of the lives of many moms...mine included! I love nursing my kids and definitely will never EVER regret my choice to nurse them. It really is a special thing! And speaking of special...there are several items that breastfeeding moms should never have to go without. One of these is the Bravado nursing bra from Born to Love. It is definitely the best nursing bra that I have come across. I haven't found any other nursing bra that can compare to the comfortability and ease of use of the Bravado nursing bra. They are made from a fabric that allows it to be comfortable from the time you get that first supply of milk after giving birth, until the time you decide to wean your child. Since it is made from 92% cotton and 8% Spandex, the fabric has the ability to stretch and contract without ever becoming too tight or uncomfortable. This definitely helps to reduce the risk of mastitis - which is a BIG plus because anyone who has had mastitis knows how painful it can be! Bravado bras have several other great features too...some of these include a sports bra styled back that provides great support, ease of use, extremely handy snap down cups, adjustable shoulder straps, pull-on styling, and a wide under-elastic for even more extra support! As you can see Bravado has it all covered...comfort, adjustability, ease of use, and support!

WIN IT!
Born to Love has generously offered to give one of YOU a Bravado Bra of your choice (from what is left in stock...there is at least one left in every size so there should be one to fit you!). In order to get ONE entry, leave a comment on this post.

Babes in Black ~ AND A GIVEAWAY!!

If you are a mom, or a dad, or a grandma....or have had any experience with kids at all, you have probably figured out already that light colored kids clothes (cute as they may be!) are very UN-Stain-Resistant! Really...it's like the foods that stain the worst (carrots, blueberries, raspberries, etc.) are just attracted to the light clothing! Oh and we won't even get into the diapers that decide to leak all over the pretty white dress clothes that your baby is wearing. ;) I'm not sure why, but I have noticed that it really is harder to find darker shades of children's clothes! That's why I was delighted to discover Babes in Black! They design all their clothes around the color black. Not only do stains not show up on black clothes, but they just so happen to be adorably cute as well. Babes in Black creates clothing that is simple yet funky. And their clothes are SO comfortable looking - loose, not restrictive and made from 100% cotton - in our books that equals the perfect outfit for an active toddler/child or for your growing babe! Babes in Black has you covered from head to toe with hats, shirts, onezies, pants and shoes. They even have a Babes in Black "Belly" maternity shirt (and we all know that stain-resistant clothing is a must when you are pregnant too! haha ;) ). We are definitely impressed with Babes in Black...simple, stylish, comfortable, cute, affordable...you can't go wrong! :)

WIN IT!
Babes in Black has recently added a new Babes in Black PINK Logo. Simply choose your product and ask to have the logo in pink - 10% of all proceeds from the sale of products with the PINK logo will be donated to Breast Cancer Research. Babes in Black would like to offer YOU the chance to win a long sleeve onesie and hat set in the 6-12 month size with a the PINK logo on it! In order to get ONE entry, leave a comment on this post.

Cute 'n Comfy AppleCheeks!

Let's just start of by saying that cloth dipaers are FABULOUS...and our latest addition to our cloth diaper pile is no exception! AppleCheeks diapers are the first CANADIAN MADE!! cloth diapers that we have tried (besides our homemade ones ;) ), and they are superb! I loved the looks of it after my first glance and once I tried it out...well that just sealed the deal! There are several things that make AppleCheeks diapers unique and different from the average cloth diaper on the market. These diapers fit a larger range of babies...and I tried it on both my 6 month old daughter and my 2 year old son...and it fits them both! They've also been said to last longer with multiple washings, which is definitely a plus because our cloth diapers get washed a LOT!! Thirdly, they are completely customizable...honestly, they have a TON of options! You can use them as a diaper cover over AppleCheeks bamboo or hemp inserts; you can add more inserts for boosters if you desire (so maybe during a long trip or at night this would be an option); or the diaper's wide envelope opening gives you the option of putting your insert(s) underneath the microfleece lining so that your baby's skin will be kept feeling nice and dry no matter how wet that diaper gets! Any item that has more than one option or way of using it is a big hit in our house...I love multi-tasking...and that includes cloth diapers that can "multi-task!" :) And AppleCheeks diapers definitely fit into this category. And although most apples are red, AppleCheeks cloth diapers are NOT all red! ;) They come in a large variety of great colors so there should be something to suit every little one!

PURCHASE IT!
AppleCheeks cloth diapers will definitely meet your cloth diapering needs! They are easy to use, durable, and SO comfortable looking. (Hey...if I wore diapers, I think I'd pick these! haha. :) ). AppleCheeks has two discount codes for you! Use the code GLIMPSE08 to get 5% off all AppleCheeks Envelope covers (the actual diaper) AND use the code GLIMPSE082 to get 5% off all boosters, liners and inserts for your diapers.

She makes the cutest handbags too! The slouch purses are my favorite. I'd love to have a matching set, but for now I'll just enjoy the wallet :) She has a few more wallets in her shop right now, so go on over and check it out!

Let's Talk Natural...& A GIVEAWAY (worth $80!)

I've always been a fan of products that are natural and that I KNOW won't have any harmful side effects or cause some other sort of damage in the long run. But I have to say that since I became a mom, my want for natural products has quadrupled (at least! haha). :) I want the very best for my kids...and that means that I'd WAY rather use items that I know without out a doubt are safe and completely natural. That's why I was so thrilled to find a Canadian company that specializes in natural products. Nature Bella offers a HUGE variety of fabulous products, and almost all of their products are made right here in Canada! Since I now have a little girl one product that definitely caught my eye is their Calidou Detangler with Honey! Mmmm...it sounds delicious (although it's obviously not meant for eating! ;) ). Emily's hair is not quite long enough to get any tangles in it yet, but when it does I'm sure this will be the perfect thing to use! It's made of a formula of HONEY-QUAT 50TM, a laboratory tested blend of honeys that are rich in vitamins and amino acids which serve to moisturize and nourish my baby girls hair. Another item that I was excited to try was Nature Bella's Goat Milk Soap. We are huge fans of goat milk around here, and Tate has actually been drinking goat milk since he stopped nursing. I have never tried Goat Milk Soap before, and was 100% impressed with it! It lathered easily, and after using it for several days, I can notice that my skin actually feels a bit less dry. I have a horrible time with dry skin in winter, so perhaps this is part of the solution. Goat milk soap is rich in vitamins and minerals, and should both hydrate and nourish your skin - perfect for our DRY (and I mean DRY!!) winters. Nature Bella also has a variety of other wonderfully natural products...everything from Nausea tea (to help reduce morning sickness when pregnant!), insect repellent milk or lotion (mosquito's apparently like Canada so this is a must in summer), deodorant (nobody wants you to go without some of this! haha ;) ), Mommy and Baby massage oil, and SO much more.

WIN IT! Nature Bella will be offering 5 AMAZING giveaways throughout the next months! There will be something for everyone so make sure to be on the lookout for these giveaways. This week Nature Bella is offering a giveaway of their Trio Cellu-System (worth $80!!) The trio Cellu-System consists of toning tea, toning capsules, and toning cream. The aging process will occur whether we like it or not and these products are designed to naturally target the appearance of your skin to make it look healthier and younger! In order to get ONE entry, simply leave a comment with one thing you try to do to make your home more of a "natural" environment!

For TWO entries, add our button to your blog, and come leave ANOTHER comment letting us know you've added our button.

For THREE entries, post about this contest on your blog, linking back to this post and to Nature Bella, and come leave ANOTHER comment letting us know you've done this as well.

Make sure to leave a separate comment for each additional entry! Due to the fact that this is a heavier package to mail, this contest is open to CANADIAN addresses only! :) (but no worries...some of the upcoming contests will be open to EVERYONE! :) ). Contest ends November 24, 2008.

A good nights sleep with Sleep Hugger

Bria was a swaddled baby. She couldn't sleep if she wasn't swaddled. This was great, except that she decided she still needed to be swaddled well past the time when she fit in a receiving blanket! So, I had to think of a solution.

When Rowan was a baby, I made him a sleep sack out of fleece. It works, but it's not quite warm enough for the winter months. He only used for a short time. I figured I would try it for Bria, and see if I could get her out of the swaddle. It worked! So I managed to find a few more second hand sleep sacks.

Well, Bria is very quickly out growing those sleep sacks, and I figured it was time to find a new one. I found Sleep Huggers sleep sacks. What a great sleep sack! Bria has the large 3.0 tog (tog is the warmness rating) Sleep Hugger, which will fit her til she no longer needs a sleep sack! I'm so excited about that, because I don't like having to buy (and store) so many sizes.

The outer fabric is all 100% cotton, so it's soft and breathable. The filling is 100% polyester batting, which keeps Bria nice and warm all night.

Sleep sacks are really a wonderful invention. How many of you have squirmy babies who end up on the opposite end of the crib? Sleep sacks move with your child, keeping them warm no matter what position they decide is best :) And no worries about blankets covering their heads. With the risk of SIDS being so much higher with loose bedding, I think every parent should own a Sleep Huggers sleep sack.

Because Sleep Huggers Sleep Sacks are made in Canada, you can be assured that they are made to be warm enough for our crazy winters, yet because of the sleeveless design, your little one will not overheat. There is also a lighter weight option for summer or nurseries that are warmer. Make sure to check it out and keep your baby warm this winter!

PURCHASE IT!!
Sleep Huggers Sleep Sacks come in two different Tog ratings, and lots of fun colors! There is always free shipping on orders of $125 or more, and you can also find some great deals in the clearance section!

Beautiful Brilliant Bealoo!

Although I am not an artsy type of person (as in...my art projects never look that great! haha :) ), I do love art! I just like it a lot better when someone else who has that special artistic ability has created the art for me. ;) I also am a HUGE fan of artwork that is fun, colorful, exciting, unique...you know, the kind that catches your eye and makes you smile. Well, Bealoo Kids Decor has prints that match all of the above descriptions plus more. Their prints will definitely bring a special 'spark' to your childrens' bedrooms, and Tate and Emily have been lucky enough to each receive two prints for their rooms! I immediately fell in love with all four of the prints we received and wanted to hang them in MY room! haha...just kidding! :) I'll definitely be hanging these up in my kids' bedrooms so that they can enjoy them. Tate LOVES his picture of the dump truck...trucks are a big hit right now, and this picture was no exception! Bealoo kids creates prints that are fresh and funky and will stimulate the imaginations of your little ones. Each print also comes Ready to Frame - in a normal sized frame (8x10, 11x14, etc.) - so you don't have to go searching all over the city and spend a big chunk of money just get a frame for it. I actually was able to find some great frames at a local dollar store, and you can't beat 2 bucks a frame!

Besides offering these fabulous prints, Bealoo Kids Decor also has beautiful (and I mean beautiful!!) canvas growth charts, Canvas stretched Art and the cutest night lights I've ever seen. Bealoo Kids Decor was put into existence by a few Moms who just happened to be amazing artists as well. Their goal? To provide unique, high quality art and decor at an affordable price. And I'd say they're definitely meeting that goal. Their prints, growth charts or night lights are the PERFECT thing to spice up your child's (or your niece or nephew or grandbaby's) bedrooms.

PURCHASE IT!
Bealoo Kids Decor offers adorable decor for any child's bedroom. Fun, fresh, funky...you won't be disappointed! Check out their great selection and perhaps you may even be able to cross a name or 2 off your Christmas list. :)

Getting squeaky clean with Heritage Bath Essentials! (with a little giveaway action too)

Recently my friend Ellie told me about a lady who lives right in my hometown who makes soaps and lotions. I was instantly intrigued :) I LOVE handmade anything, and especially bath and body products. There are so many dangerous chemicals out there in our skin care products, it's scary!

Ellie let me know about an open house at Heritage Bath Essentials, and I made plans to go. Even the first winter weather of the season didn't stop me :) It was so fun to go and see everything first hand, instead of just ordering over the internet, as I usually do.

Heritage Bath Essentials is a home based family business, run by Bev. Of course, her family pitches in to help too :) I was impressed with the variety of products she had displayed, and I took my time browsing.

One of the products that I bought is called Healing Salve. It is made with Beeswax and different oils and butters to soften up those really dry patches of skin. I figured it was worth a try on my legs. My eczema seems to be at its worst this winter, and I'm desperate for a bit of relief. I've been using it on my legs every night since I bought it, and I have definitely noticed some improvement.

I've been using a few of the soaps too. My favorite so far is a goat's milk soap with a delicious Strawberry Rhubarb scent. The lather is really rich and creamy and doesn't dry out my hands. I usually don't buy anything scented, but this time I thought I would give it a try. I'm really enjoying it! The scents are not overwhelming at all. Just a soft fragrance.

Heritage Bath Essentials also has glycerin based soaps, which are fun and colorful! One scent that I just had to try is Monkey Farts! Who wouldn't want to try Monkey Farts, right? While I really like the scent, I found the glycerin to be a bit too drying on my sensitive skin. It burned a little on the eczema patches too. So, if you have healthy skin, I'd say go for it! Try out some of the fun scents available in the glycerin soaps. But, if you've got sensitive skin like me, stick with the cold process soaps. They are a bit gentler.

WIN IT!!
That's right. Heritage Bath Essentials would love to offer a FREE bar of Monkey Farts glycerin soap to one lucky reader! Seeing as how soap can be kinda heavy to ship, we'd like to keep this giveaway exclusively for Canadians. If you are from the US and would like to try something from Heritage Bath Essentials, maybe send them an email and see if you can work something out.

To enter this contest, simply leave us a comment letting us know which product you would like to try from Heritage Bath Essentials.

For a second entry, add our button to your blog and then come back here to let us know in a SECOND comment :)

For a third entry, blog about this contest, linking to Heritage Bath Essentials, as well as Glimpse. Don't forget to leave another comment so we can count your entry!

This contest will close November 18th, 2008.

PURCHASE IT!!
Head on over to Heritage Bath Essentials and check out the great Christmas soaps available. They will keep you dreaming of Sugar Plum Faeries every time you wash your hands :) They also offer cute gift baskets all ready for giving, and great looking candles too.

Cozy, Trendy 'n Phat Wraps ~ AND A GIVEAWAY!!

It is true. I am in love all over again. First I fell in love with my husband, then with my son and daughter, and THEN I fell in love with babywearing! Of course, nothing can compare to my hubby, son and daughter...but babywearing? Hmmm...it's definitely up there too. ;) I feel SO incredibly privileged that I have been able to babywear both my kids since they were infants, and it has definitely benefited BOTH myself and my children in many ways!! My first baby carrier that I ever owned was a wrap. It was my introduction to babywearing, and it got me 110% hooked! A wrap is hands down the most comfortable carrier that I have ever used...and by now I have experimented with quite a few different styles. None can match the comfortability and coziness of the wrap. I recently received a new-to-the-market and VERY beautiful wrap from Phat Baby Wraps. Like me, the owner of The Baby Sling Shop also discovered the wrap first and fell in love with it. Now she has decided to branch out and create a new wrap...one that is unlike any other! Really...it is that good. Phat Baby Wraps are completely eco-friendly, are made with incredibly soft bamboo and organic cotton combinations, come in a great selection of stylish colors and even have a unique designer panel to add a special flair to your wrap! Only the highest quality of natural and eco-friendly fabrics are used to make Phat Baby Wraps and with the blend of bamboo and organic cotton these wraps are so soft it'll make you want to snuggle up in it and fall asleep too! ;) With a Phat Baby Wrap I can be confident that my precious babies are wrapped up in the best, softest, coziest and safest fabric possible. Oh...and did you know that there are actually MORE benefits to wearing your baby in bamboo and organic cotton besides the ones I just mentioned?! Bamboo not only adds that extra softness to the fabric, but it is AWESOME for temperature regulation!! This is one of my favorite aspects of bamboo...it is cool in summer and warm in winter and makes the Phat Baby Wrap perfect for EVERY season and temperature - year round! There are numerous other benefits as well...if you'd like to read more, head over here. I could rave about Phat Baby Wraps for a looooong time yet...but I won't. :) I'll let you get one and try it out yourself - you won't regret it...I promise! BUT I do just have to mention one other thing that I absolutely LOVE about Phat Baby Wraps. I would have never thought of this...but what a great idea! They are completely reversible! So you can use the wrap with the panel on the outside for that extra bit of style, or if you feel like you need a simple look or if Dad doesn't like the flowery panel ;), you can reverse it and it will be one solid color. Ingenious, huh? :)

As you can see in the pictures you can use this wrap right from newborn to toddler. Tate is a pretty light 2 year old, so he can still easily be carried on my back in the wrap...and if you can't tell from that big ol' grin on his face, he still loves it. :) If you are in the market for a wrap (which I think every mom needs :) ), Phat Baby Wraps would definitely be my first recommendation for you...these silky soft, natural & organic, stylish, and reversible wraps are definitely one of a kind (and nope...I'm not exaggerating :) ). Now, after all that if you're on the search for a carrier other than a wrap, you can definitely find a great selection of other high quality baby carriers over at The Baby Sling Shop. Check 'em out! :)

WIN IT!!
Phat Baby Wraps has an UNBELIEVABLE opportunity for you!! They've offered to give away one of their amazing wraps. In order to get ONE entry, head over to Phat Baby Wraps and check out their fabrics (click on swatches). Come back and leave a comment with the wrap color and fashion panel that you would choose if you won.

For TWO enteries, add our button to your blog, and come leave ANOTHER comment letting us know you've added our button.

For THREE enteries, post about this contest on your blog, linking back to this post and to Phat Baby Wraps, and come leave ANOTHER comment letting us know you've done this as well.

Dream Pearl Soap ~ Review & Giveaway!!

*Update from Renata!! Since so many of you are interested in trying Dream Pearl Soap, Renata would like to offer those who commented a 20% off discount. Just email her first, and she'll give you the discount! Thanks Renata!*

Ever since Rowan was born, I've been more and more concerned about the chemicals in cleaning products. Not only for his sake, but for mine. I tend to get headaches after cleaning the bathroom, and my extremely sensitive skin is in pretty rough shape after cleaning anything.

I've tried a few things along the way, and thought of trying others. I mean, every step closer to totally safe is good, right? How would you like to have something that is completely safe? I really didn't think that was possible. I've tried some of the 'green' cleaners out there. They clean ok, but the smell is still of chemicals, and some don't even disclose their ingredient list (i.e. President's Choice cleaners). Scary. If they can't tell me what's in it, I don't want it.

Enter, Dream Pearl Soap. After reading through the website, I knew I wanted to try this soap! After all, it claims to clean almost anything! First of all, Renata, the creator of Dream Pearl Soap, is extremely helpful when trying to figure things out. Her customer service is top notch. When I had questions about how to use the soap, she kindly directed me to a video on her website demonstrating how to use Dream Pearl Soap. And you know what, it's so easy!

I put Dream Pearl Soap to the test. Rowan had colored on his freshly painted walls months back, and I was too scared to try and scrub it off, since I didn't want to scrub off the paint. I gently rubbed it clean with a dab of Dream Pearl Soap on a cloth. SO EASY! It just came right off.

My next attempt was a nasty spot on my white couch. (Yes, the white was a bad idea, but we got the set used, when we were first married.) Again, I rubbed a small dab of Dream Pearl Soap into the fabric with a damp cloth, wiped it again with a damp cloth, and the spot came off. In fact, this is now the cleanest spot on the whole couch :) I'm going to scrub the rest of the body of the couch with Dream Pearl Soap, now that I know how well it works.

I've also used Dream Pearl Soap to clean my bathroom, wash a few loads of laundry, and wash my dishes. I probably wouldn't use it for dishes again, but definitely for laundry! And of course, the dreaded bathroom :) I even washed my cloth diapers with it (about 2 Tbsp) and they came out so fresh and soft. Renata has also shared with me that it's great for washing cars. I'm going to have to try that one yet, but maybe only if we get a warm day!

I am very impressed with Dream Pearl Soap. It has exceeded my expectations. I think you should try it too :) And, what a better way, than to WIN a jar of Dream Pearl Soap!

WIN IT!!
Renata is offering a jar of Dream Pearl Soap to one lucky winner. I will randomly draw a winner from the comments on this post next Thursday at 9pm CST. I will email the winner.

For one entry, simply leave a comment telling me what you would clean first with Dream Pearl Soap. You can also ask any questions you have about the soap, and between Renata and myself, we will get back to you with the answer. Just make sure we have a way of contacting you.

For a second entry, add our button to your blog. Then come back and leave a second comment.

For a third entry, write a blog post about this giveaway and Dream Pearl Soap. Make sure to link to Glimpse and Dream Pearl Soap so all your friends can enter too! Don't forget to leave a third comment!

PURCHASE IT!!
Dream Pearl Soap is available from the website for $15 plus shipping. If you live in or close to Burnaby, BC, you could probably even pick it up. Make sure to check out the other products available on the website too.

*Update from Renata!! Since so many of you are interested in trying Dream Pearl Soap, Renata would like to offer those who commented a 20% off discount. Just email her first, and she'll give you the discount! Thanks Renata!*
